Did anybody of you guys who went to cons tried picking up chicks there? From videos I have seen, there seems to be some talents cosplaying. If so, you were probably a good choice among the many beta geeks.

I think it used to be more of a thing last decade. Now elements of "geek" culture have gone mainstream enough to attract more women who are interested in primarily attention.....and so messed up is the head of a basic woman that they will actually choose attention over sex.

Cosplay models
Sorry to drag this thread more off-topic, but it hit one of my pet-peeves...

Cosplay girls (the hot ones) are really the same as instagram models except instead of prancing around in lingere and bikinis they are in skimpy anime and superhero outfits. The target demo in male attention is different but it's still the same old song and dance. I think the reason they opt for the more exotic costumes is basically a slut-shame defense. They know deep down they are objectifying themselves for male sexual attention but the cover story is they want to claim it's about the outfit and not their bodies. This disconnect between their lame excuse and the end result of male attention takes place online in the comments. I don't follow instagram but there are plenty of popular cosplay models on Facebook. I followed one for the same reason any other guy did (she was hot). I then proceeded to read through the cattle calling and the model continuing to scold and ban the cattle callers. This woman's main asset was her double D boobs and that was usually the main focus of thirst. So she put herself on display, knowing full well that guys were wanking to her, but she just wants them to play along by being "respectful". Once the veil of propriety is lifted by a guy saying "I just wanna jizz on your tits" then she's gonna smack you down. That's just how it works. You're allowed to think it--just don't say it. The like-counter rolling forwards is all that matters for female validation.

Hamster3

The fact is that themed costumes like this are a verifiable sexual fetish. The market for adult Halloween costumes has to be more for bedroom role-play then actual Halloween. Yet the cosplay models play dumb over this. It's all about fans "showing their love of the property", not the sexual fantasy of a comic book or cartoon character striking suggestive poses.

Now, imagine how this must play out at conventions, how difficult it must be for men (with no EQ) to ride that fine line between giving women some semblance of attention but without outright cattle-calling or eye-fucking them.

Mindblown3

I don't see how it could ever be possible to pick up a cosplay girl because anyone who has fallen into this fetishized attention-whoring activity would never let her guard down and be receptive to a pickup. You'd have to meet her when she's in plain clothes. I'd love to hear a success story someplace.

I really think this form of attention is a POWER thing. Women like to get guys sexually hot and bothered and yet restrain them at the same time.

Well written, but you're forgetting one important factor:

Bitch shields only exist for her SECOND CHOICE men. If you were to walk into a con with a six-pack cosplaying the prince of Persia you'd probably have a better than even chance of some cosplay girl taking you upstairs.

To add to what Questor has said, the really hot cosplay gals also make money from it via patreon accounts and through selling signed pictures of their cosplaying. These aren't fan girls doing something for the sake of it or as a hobby.

That's why I asked for personal anecdotes. While what you're saying is true in theory, it also depends on context. I seriously doubt a cosplay chick would want to be seen sending IOIs to a guy, even if he deserved it, because it would just make the beta orbiters think they had a chance.

If said guy were to isolate the chick away from the crowds (easier said than done) THEN he'd have a chance. But the convention scene is just not like a singles bar or even the supermarket.

The cosplayers should be seen as actively performing when they're walking around. They aren't presenting themselves and they don't want you to interact with them in a naturalistic way. Sure, they may not be as locked into character as a Disneyland actress dressed as Snow-White, but it's still something they are doing to get a particular reaction.

I think cosplayers are enjoying a dom/sub sort of experience of torturing thirsty betas while hiding behind plausible deniability. The last thing on their minds is for them to become attracted to men. It's a one-way street which is probably why appealing to betas is key. It pretty much guarantees none of them will trigger an uncontrollable IOI.

They only want to sort of orchestrate men into signaling adoration within a very narrow range of acceptable behavior. Some of them may actually enjoy doxing "creepers". Or on the milder side, there's always the joy of patronizing, by sending us troubled males who get too aroused by cleavage and camel-toes to sensitivity training.

Anyway, like I said, if anyone here has picked up a cosplayer while she was in costume, I want to hear it, because I think it's next to impossible unless you were already part of her social circle. Maybe a booth-babe at a gaming convention, but those are professional models which is a different dynamic.

RE: Are geeks more immature on average than other people
Gonna run a little contrary here, but growing up a geeky dude, I always embraced it. While other kids were doing their things, I was doing my thing. Sure, I was probably a fucking weirdo, but I genuinely enjoyed that time in my life. I was living for me, doing me and genuinely being unapologetic about it. Sure, I could have gotten laid more and done more "cool" shit, but I'll never regret the hours I put into grinding toons on Diablo 2 or reading the entire H.P. Lovecraft tome or playing DND with the homies.

I do think that geeks are usually more immature, but the funny thing is that I haven't really compromised my geekiness in much of anyway as I became more redpilled and successful. I lift, I eat clean, healthy food, I bang girls, I play guitar, I drink whiskey without chasers, shoot testosterone and generally fit in with the redpill schema, but

I still love comic books, metal concerts (saw defeated sanity a bit ago Banana ) video games, reading horror stories and all that geeky stuff. Sure, I don't talk about it with everyone, but I still love that shit and it informs my sense of humor and my outlook on life. I understand if some guys might turn up their noses at such stuff, but that's whatever to me. We don't have to all be the same in that regard. I was actually recently considering joining a DND group just to meet more "off-the-grid" expats since those are the guys who often have some sweet sweet connections in the tech industry.

I don't know but I imagine that I would dislike a lot of you guys if you weren't so damn geeky. I won't say who, but within 1 hour of meeting him, he was breaking down how he won some SF4 tournaments and stuff and we became pretty tight after that. I've met well over 25+ RVFers and we often have geek conversations. I love that stuff in other people.

I understand that it is something that many men have to move away from in order to improve, but I still regularly have video game balance discussions with close friends, rage about OP combos in hearthstone, get excited about the newest death metal and djent bands and other shit.

I don't know, I find that it gives me a certain something that I would be missing in my interior life if it were not for my huge geek streak. I love it when people meet me and they're like "you were obviously a jock or popular person in high school and college" and then I bust out some metal knowledge or some horror/fantasy fiction novels. I find that my geeky stuff lets me level and connect with larger swaths of people I would otherwise never be able to chill with or get to know. It also helps with game. It gives me different layers.

My dad and uncle were both closet geeks as well, so I just always respected that in them. They were these tough guys who grew up on the streets but they had comic book collections and would play video games with me and generally fostered my curiosity in the world in those ways.

To this day, my closest friends are all geeky guys, it's just how we are. These are dudes who make money, take care of themselves and generally live a life of focus and dedication but also play the newest PS4 and computer RPGs.
Sure, some people might think we need to grow up, but why can't I rage about OP mechanics in SFV while also talking about the chinese chick I tagged with tight game?

Sure, I like making money, banging girls, learning martial arts, reading serious literature and exercising, but I just can't see myself every disposing of those geeky tendencies in that way that many of you have. I respect that, though.

RE: Are geeks more immature on average than other people
Good thread topic, I am still for the most part a massive nerd, I dont see a bad thing about enjoying videogames and anime if you can balance it out with the rest of your life. I can still chill and play a whole days worth of Dota 2 but I will still hang out with my girlfriend at some point, crush the gym the next day, learn some Polish and do my work for my job as and when it comes in.

The problem is the people who can't balance it, that use it as a full escape mechanism, I can't contribute much to what has already been said in previous posts. So instead I am going to respond to a couple of people who said some interesting things:

Yes! Actually recently I went to the Kiev Major for Dota 2, I felt like a God amongst all the losers there. I could have probably number closed the hottest Cosplayer there, if I hadn't got locked out of my phone because I forgot my sim code Big Grin Basically a bunch of dudes were lined up to take photos with this chick, when it was my turn I asked if she had done any acrobatics or gymnastics before, because I wanted to do a pose where I lift her over my head (im a recreational gymnast, so this is comfortable for me), she said no unfortunately but I was able to ramble on about my gymnastics background and that she looked like she might have done it. Long story short ended up having a decent conversation with her, her english was good so that was another thing to build a conversation around. I pissed off a bunch of nerds waiting in line just for talking so much. But since im in a relationship and had no working phone, I decided to leave it at a normal picture. Seemed very possible, and im not delusional I know when a girl is into me, and that wouldve certainly been an easy prospect.

Omg please do PM me who this is. I played SF4 for like 5-6 years and was doing the tournament circuit in Europe, good chance whoever this is might have known who I was Big Grin Won a few mid tier tournaments abroad, got me travelling all over Western Europe at the time, was really fun.

Edit: Even remember coming close to qualifying for a free trip to San Fran for Capcom Cup in SFxT in its first year. Unfortunately lost to Momochi, came third and needed to come 1st or 2nd for the trip Sad

Right now I am still actively playing Dota 2 and doing some random tournaments online. I can't knock the competitive aspect of E-sports, and there is loads of money in it. Dont be fooled guys, the dudes who are at the top of this ladder, the E-sports "athletes" are in fact killing it with girls also into it. You might think these are low tier girls, but man, they are not. These chicks are also from EE places like Russia and Ukraine, so a female nerd from these places is actually still very normal and attractive. I don't look up to them at all, most are not real men by any definition, but hey, they are richer than me and still probably do as well with chicks as me, suppose that counts for something.

Its the fans that are the issue, and there are hundreds and thousands of them, these are the losers, I know because I was one at one point in time. But hey if theres hope for me, there is probably hope for these guys too.

One thing I will add, is that for all it's flaws games like DnD are still a social activity: playing the, requires you to go out and interact with other human beings. Kids these days don't get that with video games.

Hell I'd even consider trying D&D myself. The reason why is that I realized it really wouldn't be all that different from public speaking in some ways: in both cases you are putting on and acting out a persona for an audience.

Never thought of it that way, but I see what you mean. In that sense D&D reminds me more of inprov than public speaking. Big difference is that the puppet is not you but the miniature.

RE: Are geeks more immature on average than other people
Those who escape from reality the most are those who deal with reality the least. As emotional maturity is inherently linked to real-life experience, it's no wonder such people are emotionally immature.

Even when one of these geeks has real life experience such as a long term relationship, if the girl is a geek herself they simply escape reality together; perhaps through cosplaying fantasies as an example. Or dare I say it, binging on MMO's together.

This form of mutual enabling will last up until they are forced to deal with reality, e.g. parenthood or paying house bills.

Since I quit video games a few years back my emotional immaturity has increased in bounds, and I am finding less maturity in the heavy drinkers of society - another form of escapism.

It has to be said that I still "geek out" from time to time, the moment a girl talks about video games I go off on a tangent. And I still value my days PKing on Diablo II. I forgot characters were called "toons", heh heh. Thanks for the reminder Fortis.

To the people who were discussing cosplay girls above - I feel like a good portion of them are girls who wanted to feel like the hot popular girls back in high school but weren't able to make the grade so they instead try to make it an arena where the competition isn't as fierce, namely with geeks and nerds. I see a lot of the bitchy attitudes that gets associated with stereotypical popular mean girl types but the hatred against beta orbiters is even more magnified. I guess I can't really blame them since as we've our discussing a lot of these guys tend to be on the more socially retarded and immature side so I can see why the bitch shields would be fully charged up.

Yep. That's why I'm thinking of doing it.

I'm at the point where I'm great at presenting, but I'm still shit at storytelling. In my job that's going to be a major liability once I get 5+ years of experience in the business and start getting into a revenue generating role.

El oh el.

Yeah, girls engaged in activities like cosplay and "live-streaming" video game-playing without offering any value-add beyond the power of the pee you ess ess why (how are these even things? Maybe Muslims are right to try and wipe us out) love complaining about thirsty "nice guys"--but without thirsty nice guys, their principal vector for receiving validation and attention would not exist.

Girls love complaining about the hands that feed them, especially when they can receive even more attention and validation by complaining about the hands that feed them.

Sloots gonna sloot.

Regular cosplay girls definitely do get off on the exhibitionism of it and by showing that they have the "hots" to cosplay the character they're dressed as.
