Have a girl I'm banging. Because she lives about 1.5 hours away, I only see her when she's in town, but yesterday I was bored and horny so I asked her if she wanted to come over.

She says "maybe" and around 8pm she texts me and says she will come over.

I am living in Europe right now and I've actually noticed this a lot with Europeans. Whenever they have cold sores (which seem more common here) they can't care less and just continue going to the club, playing drinking games and sharing cups and hooking up with people. Nobody cares. It's like the South Park episode where the guys go and get that dirty hooker to lick all the cups in the neighbourhood so everyone gets herpes. Back home most peeps I know make an effort to stay low key and some will take sick days and stay home until they've healed. Not saying you have to kill yourself, but it's a highly contagious virus that causes oozing blisters on your mouth (and maybe your cock). Is it not just basic courtesy to hang low for 3 days until you've healed? Would you invite a chick over for a booty call if you had open cold sores on your mouth? Seems fucking weird to me.

Anyone with visible herpes is too lazy to get a prescription of Valtrex or too lazy to take a pill every day. Especially women who should be taking another pill every day anyway.

I suffer from cold-sores yearly (massive pain in the ass) and keep a cupboard full of items to help get rid of it as soon as it comes. When I am experiencing an outbreak I usually drop off the radar for a little while and sometimes wear one of the surgical masks they sport in Asia out of courtesy.

I have in the past had women not give a shit about it being there and still try to kiss me. When the role is reversed I tell them to not see me until it a week has passed and it has cleared up completely.

I've never had a woman turn up sporting one without me knowing beforehand so I can't comment on what I would do (depending on the level of blue-balls experienced at that moment)

I've never had one, but this is exactly what I would do if/when I do. To me this is called being a normal, polite human being.

In Europe it's totally different for some reason. I have a buddy from Sweden who had a big, fresh one on the side of his lip and was like, so what time should we invite people over for drinks tomorrow! I think its really a dick move for a woman to show up for a date/booty call and not tell you beforehand that she has a cold sore outbreak going on. Happened to me once before with a SIF that showed up to a first meet with a MASSIVE cold sore outbreak. The SIF part was bad enough but having an outbreak on top of it? What a cunt! Suffice to say, I was pretty pissed at the time.

It's an instant dealbreaker for me if a chick shows up with an outbreak without warning first; it's incredibly selfish, inconsiderate, and shows a real lack of basic respect and social awareness. Obviously, there is no way a kiss/bang close is happening that evening and therefore, the meeting is generally a total waste of my time. Rather meet a few weeks later when things have cleared up and there is at least a chance something could go down.

For those that don't know the basics:

Something like 90% of the population has HSV-1 - the virus that causes cold sores. Any form of skin to skin contact, particularly with the outbreak area, puts you at risk. A woman can also touch the sore directly and actually transfer the virus via her hand to various regions of her own body OR your own body as well (including your cock and even eyes). The virus really can't survive easily outside the skin (like on toilet seats, towels, razors, etc) so its nearly impossible to get the virus outside of skin to skin contact. Still, I play it safe any way.

I will tell say though: a MAJOR pet peeve of mine is fucking assholes who have a outbreak going on and for whatever goddamn reason can't help but keep touching their fucking cold sore all the damn time and THEN touching other shit (including people) without washing their hands first. It's really inconsiderate and it seems like A LOT of people give zero fucks when they have an outbreak. For the small minority that doesn't have the virus, it's a dick move to be that cavalier unnecessarily potentially exposing people.

That all said: don't be afraid to call out bitches and people on this stuff. A lot of folks have no idea how herpes works and how it can be transferred. Some harsh education is long overdue.

There is quite a big difference between going overboard with germs in general and not wanting to get herpes, the oral variety or otherwise. It's not a bad thing to avoid it if it can be.

As far as the American tendency to go overboard on cleanliness, I have to say I prefer that to what I've experienced staying with a few French families. Piss and shit covered toilets, piss covered floors, in rooms with no sink to wash your hands. I put up with it to bang the girls, but I wore sandals in the house and hovered over the shitter. Filthy French is no cliché. Dirt poor Colombians and Thais keep a cleaner home.

There is now a vaccine for HPV and most young girls should getting it, as far as I know. Your body is also able to eliminate the virus over a few years if you are healthy. So I am far less concerned about HPV than HSV. I would guess HPV will be a complete non-issue in 20 years, if not already.

Also, I don't buy the "herpes is no big deal" thing. So big pharma has blown it up. Even if it won't kill you, it still hurts and causes ugly oozing shit on your face and cock. If you can avoid getting it, and/or avoid passing it to others, you should. I think most people are just poorly educated on how contagious it is and how it is transmitted.

Point taken that cold cores and cleanliness are different. I wouldn't kiss a cold sore either. But the dramatic revulsion on display in this thread is proving my point.

I wouldn't agree with that characterisation of the French, at least from my experience. But I will say toilet seat covers are a uniquely American phenomenon.

Linux, You have the virus I am sure,but it hides up in the nerve bundles around your mouth, and your immune system keeps it at bay, wipes it out if it ventures out.

Unless you get run down, dehydrated, stressed etc then it can cause a breakout for a week until your body nukes it back into hiding.

If you have an epic immune system, that shit never sneaks out.

A herpetic stomatitis (the sores themselves) are just as likely to present inside the lips as outside. I'm certain several members of this forum have kissed or received head from women during the "open lesion" phase of an outbreak and had no idea.

You all should know how this works by now; if a woman does something terrible (like bj's during an outbreak) but no one knows because the lesions are all hidden, then its basically like she didn't do it at all, right? You certainly can't hold her responsible if you get it!

I've personally had oral herpes since my earliest childhood memories; I remember my 1st grade teacher being alarmed by an outbreak. In retrospect I probably got it from my mother poking her own sores then handling me as an infant. I didn't know that not everyone got cold sores until I went to college.

I get cold sores once or twice a year, had them since I was a kid. I feel like I got them more often back then. Now it's like once or twice a year.

I think there's better stuff to use on it as well. I found about these OTC pills from Target that cost like 10 bucks. Talked about it with a doctor on a whim and he recommended I go. The cold sores were gone in like two days. I wish I knew about that medicine sooner.

Once I learned that apparently over 90% of the population has something like this I stopped worrying so much.
