Alright, Cpt. Chardonay, apologies on the delay. Lets get to it.

So before I get into specifics, I’ll touch upon my overarching principles/themes. Having these for seasons makes decisions a lot easier.

-For everyday essentials (coats, boots, gloves, belts, hats, etc) I stick with earthy tones. I’m not a big black guy aside from your standard black V-Neck t shirt.
-For tops, I stick with solid colors to match the mood of the season (dark red, navy, off white, cream, machine grey)
-For top types and fabrics, its simple, I want to project warmth. One because I want to be warm and two because warm fabrics can be very soft which girls love. Types include thermal V-Necks Henley’s & pure cotton henley’s, Irish Fisherman Knits (V-Neck), Thick Flannel shirts (1-3 is all you should ever need), Fitted cardigans, thin cashmere sweaters, and of course your button downs which I stick to subtle patterns/prints. Everything in the winter should be more “understated”. And most importantly on this topic, don’t sleep on thick fabrics if you can pull it off. If nothing else if you can nail fabric, fit, and “feel” it will all come together for you.
-If you’re going to do flannel, it better be a very quality piece, otherwise people will suspect you of being lumbersexual.
-The biggest takeaway is layers. All my outerwear purchases keep in mind that I’m going to be wearing something underneath and good contrast between the two when I enter a room makes a VERY good first impression.

Jackets
The first one you chose is on point. The rule of thumb for Peacoats is for the hem (bottom) to go to mid thigh at least. Anything higher like right at the waist and you look like a college sophomore that just discovered peacoats get you compliments from teenage girls. Yours is very stylish but I’m not sure its an everyday peacoat as it suggests high fashion. Bit of semantics so lets not get stuck in the weeds. Lastly, if you can pull it off, double breasted coats have a timeless look to them but this really depends on your height and build for which will look best on you.
You’re off to a good start.

There are my go to coats in the winter. Peacoat is for 20-40s. Parka is sub 20s and Trenchcoat is for 40-50s.

The peacoat is my main so mostly everything is bought with that in mind. My go to color to wear is navy so this plays off everything very well.

Sweaters and tops

The idea on knit and fabric is presented pretty well by these guys. Judging by the pictures, they’re too baggy but that shouldn’t matter because ideally you want to try it on first anyways. But I think they present the general idea very well.

Also, consider LL Bean and Timberland for thicker ones.
The more stylish sweaters you can find at Banana Republic, Zara, Primark, J. Crew, TJ Maxx…basically anywhere once you understand what you are looking for.

Boots are something you have to figure out on your own. I’d set aside a few hours to go try some on. Nordstrom Rack or something similar has a great selection when you take into account price and quality.

If you have the cash for it many people like Frye’s as well. And I think Momo recommended it prior, Redwing boots are top notch. If you buy heavy duty Redwing’s you can rock them in NYC or Antarctica.
Last tip and this is double, secret probation shit..bomber hats. Not for everyone and maybe girls don’t like them but I think they’re very warm and fun to wear

I love my RV, there's something comforting about knowing if SHTF/natty disaster or just if I feel like it, you can hit the road and just roam. It's increased my desire to just quit my job someday once the finances are right and travel the US until I run out of money.

Eddie Van Halen used to play this creme Les Paul back in the 70's. Coincidentally it was a guitar very popular with his contemporary, Randy Rhodes;


EVH - Eddies line of guitars by Fender, have released these amazing tributes to that guitar. Something about the creme color, and hard ebony fingerboard, make this one of my favorite production guitars I have ever seen. The new "untouched" model was released earlier this year for a $3000 retail price. The aged version you see below retails for $15K, and is an extremely short run designed by Eddie himself. I think they made something like 50 or so.

Im a guitar snob. Ive played my whole life, have had vintage guitars of all types(Fender, Gibson, Guild, Epiphone), and also newer guitars. As a guitar snob, I appreciate high quality. EVH in my opinion is making the finest new production guitars. The design details from Eddie(skinny frets, Frankenstein Humbucker, switches, pots, etc), make these guitars unlike anything you can buy elsewhere. Combine them with an EVH amp, and the harmonics and gain generated are unlike anything you can buy anywhere. These are the best guitars and amps made today.

This thread deserves a bump.

I recently acquired a lantern of good quality. It's made a subtle but tangible impact in my apartment.

It looks great, and the ambience it provides during the dark winter months easily beats anything electrical. Gotten several compliments on it. It creates an instant mood conducive to game, and is less obvious than candles...

Simple, cheap and a large pay-off in the calm it inspires. We are made tranquil by watching the movements of a small flame.

A glass front wood stove.



I've spent most of the winter so far working on my laptop in front of a stove like that in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Love it. There's a certain primal joy in having a tame fire, and it's tough to beat heating up in front of the stove when I've been cutting wood or getting water or whatever in the cold. I also enjoy the ritual of bringing in wood every day, keeping the fire going and setting up the overnight burn. And it's just fun to watch.

I haven't banged any girls in front of it yet. Probably won't any time soon. I go there for solitude so I can focus on my work without distractions, and since there's jack shit to do there in winter except XC ski and shoot guns I expect any girl would quickly get on my nerves.

A water feature.

I believe that humans are biologically adapted to camp near water sources and as such feel more at ease around them. The places I loved living at most invariably had a pool, even if I never used it.

A pool itself is a bit of a maintenance hog but a nice water feature is a very affordable alternative.

This is something I want to address, as I have more and more friends who are going down this path, and I think it is potentially destructive.

Happiness is not some perpetual state, whereby one makes X and suddenly achieves enlightenment. This is exactly the right aspiration. The point though is that if you have 'fuck you money' by western standards then you can do all this on a scale that no 3rd world pussy paradise can ever compare to. There is no doubt in my mind that being wealthy in the west - to the point that any indulgence is trivial - gives you the chance to do all the things that most interest you, whilst fucking a lot of beautiful girls and enjoying some very fine meals with some very interesting people in lovely surroundings. This can only be a good thing.
