England and Russia may be banned from the tournament if either continue any violence.

Always nice to watch a motivated Croatian team in tournament mode.
Very technically gifted team in general, but Modrić and Rakitić stand out, and today the unyielding Ćorluka of course.
Turkey not very convincing, hope that Mor starts next time though, highly talented young player with world-class potential, recently signed by Dortmund.

Better question though, WNB.

I've seen Vardy play for less than 5 minutes, and I can already tell you he will struggle in international games, but she's hyping Vardy as England's great hope in the tournament!! She doesn't know what she is talking about. He will be fouled constantly by his opponents, and his manager will make the team play in a way that either doesn't work at international level, or a method that works at that level, but does not utilise Vardy(because he is 100% an English League player).

Sigh. I gave up following this crap years ago, it's always so predictable.

Did you see the England friendly matches during the last few months?
Vardy definitely didn't seem like he was struggling to me.
Scoring against Germany, scoring against the Netherlands, scoring against Turkey.
Why would you think he's out of his depth in international games?

Talking about Vardy though:

Because historically, English players who excel in the English league do terribly in international tournaments. There are some exceptions.

I haven't been following football much the last few years, so forgive me if I over look things.

Rooney is another example of 'good in England;terrible on international stage'.

This discussion could go on for eternity, because there are some English players who have been amazing in English league and international tournaments to varying degrees. The first one who comes to my mind is Stuart Pearce. Generally our greats are terrible in the international arena. There are exceptions but they don't debunk the generalisations.

All these threats of disqualifying England and Russia is so boring.
Like they are going to lose out on all the money that they are going to make.

Also, Can we take bets on which game is going to get hit by a terror attack?

RE: Euro 2016
It was a good game. Germany vs Ukraine. Germany was lucky to score soon but Ukraine had some chances and did create pressure in the last time of the first half. In the second half they lost a little the spirit but Germany could not make it. Also we had be lucky do not get a goal from Ukraine. And then like magic Schweinsteiger. This will give him the drive he needs do be the leader of the team.

Read also about some German hooligans, about 50 or so that should have done some attacks.

We will stand tall in the sunshine
With the truth upon our side
And if we have to go alone
We'll go alone with pride

For us, these conflicts can be resolved by appeal to the deeply ingrained higher principle embodied in the law, that individuals have the right (within defined limits) to choose how to live. But this Western notion of individualism and tolerance is by no means a conception in all cultures. - Theodore Dalrymple

Good post.

Basically, England and Scotland have provided the necessary cannon fodder for the expansion and maintenance of the British Empire.

When that Empire was no more, and technology had progressed, all those working class males, literally bursting with testosterone and disposable cash, needed an outlet for their energy, and football hooliganism provided it. It also provided those males with another natural outlet: tribal violence.

Croatia deserve a place along with the likes of Italy, England and Portugal as 'dark horses' to win Euro 2016, probably more so than those 3 teams. Did you hear the Turkish fans when Mor was substituted on? They love him!

RE: Euro 2016
In Germany they use a for us new statistic called packing, which explains a lot of games where the goals are on one side but the old statistics argued for the other team.

Especially Germany is one of the strongest packing teams.

I expected them to be a lot weaker. The analysts here said it was the strongest game, I don't really agree.

Germany 2 vs Ukraine 0

'Overplayed(I understand it as : like you don't outplay but the other teams player doesn't even get close to the ball)' players 391 to 162

'Overplayed' defense players 52 to 19

As example the world Cup 2014 game Germany 7 vs Brazil 1
402 to 341 and 84 to 53

Edit : and I heard the first game ever commented by a woman. I hated it. It was so bad. She tried to sound manly and had 0 knowledge.

I agree, as someone said earlier on this thread: our team is not as great as the sum of its parts. We have quite a lot of injuries this time around, including Kompany, so I am not going to get too excited unlike 2 years ago.

Belgium really needs a new coach, Wilmots is tactically weak and we need someone who can make it happen so that Hazard finally delivers for the NT.

Fully agree that Wilmots is holding back the team.

First of all he selects players based on how well he gets along with them on a personal level, and not based on their recent performances.
Hazard's place is on the bench.
Benteke's place is at home.
Lombaert's place is on the field.

Secondly, he refuses to adapt his formation to the available players.
For years we've had many good defenders and zero decent wingers, so it was normal to play with 4 defenders. The backs, even though they were not naturally offensive players, were required to participate in the offence.
Now we have a shortage of good defenders and we have some good true wingers. And still he wants to play with 4 men in defence. So sub-par backs will be on the field, and good wingers will be on the bench.

I think our team will disappoint, and Wilmots wil leave after this tournament.

Russian hooligans were not "drunk individuals" (unlike brits, who are, for some of them and from my experience, maybe hooligans but great guys to party with). Russians were very well orginazed fight grougs, teetotal, no drugs, highly-trained, who came to France just to make the point with other hooligans/football fans. They were just very violent, hateful and berserk idiots (but admittedly, very well organized idiots) ......now compare with the cheerful Ukrainian supporters yesterday.

ROI were unlucky, Gary Lineker just finished commentry saying Sweden got a 1-1 draw but never had a shot on target!

Fell a bit deep after they scored. Easily done when defending a 1-0 lead in such an important game.

Really needed win though. Unlucky.

Yep agree. Ireland will have their work cut out against Belgium but with the Italians not the force they were four years ago, they could sneak out of the group with three draws.

Italy isn't going to go far in this tournament.

Belgium have the best team, on paper.

France looked average in their win, Payet is going to be the saviour. I was hoping Pogba would show more, he was rightly subbed.

England, same ole England. The coach was lucky to keep his job past the last World Cup, hopefully this tournament will send him packing. Brings on Wilshere and Milner for what reason, I don't know. Throw on the kid Rashford or Vardy for heaven's sake, the Russians were tired late in the game.

Wales need not to lose a game and can advance.

I hate Ze Germans, but they always find away to win. Why was Schweinsteger celebrating like he won the tournament with that goal.

That was quite an entertaining game. Belgium was a bit disappointing, though with even the four best teams ending up as third in the poule going to the next round, they have every chance to make it.
