RE: All is confirmed again: Facebook is using your phone to listen to everything you say
I thought everyone knew Facebook listened to everything you said. I think Google Search does the same thing but at least they claim that they only listen when you say the "trigger words" which are usually "Ok Google".

Recently I disabled the Facebook app on my phone and turned off all the permissions it had on my phone (Android 6 and above lets you do that). A side benefit of me disabling facebook on my phone is the increased battery life. There is definitely a minor improvement to my battery life. Apparently the Facebook app is a yuuge battery hog which makes sense if it's always listening to you.

Second that.

I just started Facebook a little while ago. Mine is like a list of bar sluts.

Maybe this is why I get all kinds of porno pop up ads. Or adds for meeting single black girls that live in my neighborhood.

Aloha!

Even if you have location services turned off on most apps, find my phone can stay on independently. If you utilize this feature, it tells you the last place it was used and when. This may or may not still be current information.

I don't see how you can expect to locate a device that isn't actively transmitting its location via LTE or wifi.

If anyone knows more info on this, please feel free to correct my line of thought.

I've used the one for the iphone, I can't comment on the android version. My coworker lost his phone in his car, it was out of juice, and he had me use the iphone finder to find his phone, it still made a beeping noise when I hit the button to find his phone. I don't know how this works, but it does.

Forum messages are 'deep web' and often don't show in search results - try searching the Register forum, it's not possible, it's hidden - unless you are google and you have the deep web indexed as well. Two days later, the very specific guitars and modifications I was talking about, came back in a semi-related search. They listen to everything. They own us all. If a neighbour or family member did this to you, you would take it as a gross betrayal of trust, and you would cut all ties. You can't do that now. It will be illegal not to have the internet in five years time. You think I'm joking?

Regarding those 'deep links' you visited - that's simple marketing cookies at work & js scripts scanning the pages for Keywords. No big deal. That's how web marketing works.

If you want, you can have a look at almost any site using builtwith.com and scroll down to the advertising section to see what they're using. It looks worse than it is.

If you dont want to be tracked by marketing cookies / js scripts etc, use the disconnect.me browser add on

Bad idea - it's been shown that tin foil actually increases RF reception, rather than acting as a Faraday cage as intended...

Shown by who? Anyone can readily test something like this by wrapping their phone in aluminum foil and have someone call them. Results...no phone call.

I am not an electrical engineer, nor do I play one on TV. I just work with electricity in lots of projects so I have a passing familiarity with the subject.

A capacitor maybe (as suggested), or the battery voltage is too low for the phone to work, but not too low for whatever enables that function. The location function might only need 1/100th the current the phone needs to fully function, so it can still work at a much deeper discharge state.

I'm completely speculating now but the location function might be triggered by an RFID type deal, where your phone puts out a burst of RF energy which energizes the RF antenna in the target phone, which then asks the beep function to work if there's enough juice for it. Not an actual RFID tag but the same concept. Not saying that's how it is done, but it's one way it could be done.

^Phones are designed in such a way that when they show the battery as empty, there's still power available to do things like indicate that the battery is empty.

This information won't change a thing. Maybe 0.1% of people will close down facebook for good with this knowledge. How many people will quit snapchat since it's essentially a facial recognition software?

I fully believe at this point Zuck could come out and claim that facebook is watching you fuck and masturbate through the camera lens on your phone and people would just laugh it off, maybe even point it at their junk thinking it's funny.

Zuck is the dictator of the largest country on earth, 1.2 billion users and growing. He can decide what news is worthy and what should be suppressed. He can give info to governments and effectively stop any kind of future dissent.

Why do you think him and the folks at google want there to be free wifi all around the world? They want everyone to be connected for the future VR fake reality coming.

Yes, exactly.

Cuckerberg is doing it already.
