Talking politics
It seems that talking politics is almost universally viewed as a no-no for fucking girls.

I've never seen it that way, and talking politics has never screwed me up with any chicks, and I've talked politics with almost every girl I've met more than once.

Now, I usually don't bring up politics, it obviously can be a boring subject, but if a chick brings it up, I don't try to avoid the topic.

I'm into politics, economics, social issues etc. and read a good amount about them, so for me talking about politics is natural and a DHV, she sees me as someone really knowledgeable on the subject, because I almost always am more knowledgeable than she is.

Now, my political views are not represented by any political party I know, which means whether the girl is liberal or conservative, I probably disagree with her on almost everything. But that doesn't mean we get to arguing. You of course do not want to argue.

However, having a calm, relaxed, interesting discussion about politics can be a great way to show mastery of a subject that the girl is interested in, and showing yourself as an intellectual superior is as good a DHV as any, and helps separate you from the crowd.

Obviously you should not start an argument or anything that brings up negative emotions. This should be interesting and fun for the both of you, not a pissing match. Be an adult about it.

Obviously this is only good for smart girls who value intelligence in men. For club sluts, you can easily skip this, but I tend to skip club sluts in favor of more interesting girls.

I always try to NOT discuss the following topics...

1) Politics
2) Religion
3) Abortion
4) Biggie vs. Tupac

...as those topics will rarely (if ever) come to an agreement AND will often times get folks too emotional.

RE: Talking politics
I agree up to a point.

If she brings it up I won't switch the subject immediately. I know my shit and I'll lead the conversation; and I avoid getting caught up in a debate.

One ex, who didn't know much about politics but was eager to learn, told me she found it very sexy when I schooled her on it. I'll break down complex political issues in simple terms. I did a stint working in politics, still have friends who do, and have met top politicos so I can make it interesting if she's into it.

That's rare though. Most girls I've met don't have an interesting perspective to add so I won't dwell on it for long. Many girls just feel like they should be into it for whatever reason. So they'll say they're interested but you're unlikely to evoke any gina tingles by talking about it, no matter how erudite you are. Finally, if I suspect disagreement I'll quickly move the conversation on.

I'd much rather talk about fun subjects or banter around stuff where she can bring something to the table.

RE: Talking politics
This is useful. I have a law student I'm working on (online; haven't met yet) who just came to Canada. She claims to be interested in politics which is:
a) a lie, but shows she does want to continue the conversation (good)
b) true, plausible given her interest in law (I may be just a source of information, and a lay not forthcoming)
c) true, and an opportunity to DHV

I think if I play my cards right I can keep it to c, which I think is optimal. If A I'll try and change the subject. If B I'll eject.

Let me add something...

There is the possibility that the chick is some political science/criminal justice major and she is a little better to chat about these topics with...because she has had these debates in the past and will know how to handle a good discussion.

But she'll also be argumentative as hell.

Exactly.

Girls love it when you show mastery of a subject. Explaining anything to them can be sexy. How a car works, how to fish, anything, it just matters that you seem in control and present it in a way that is interesting and engaging.

Avoid debates. You do not want to have anything close to an argument, and that's what political ''debates'' usually are.

Hell, if you find a girl who likes to debate/argue, do NOT engage her in politics. She has all this shit ready to go, ready to show off all she's read, and you aren't even interested. Then she has to figure out some other way to try to impress you.

RE: Talking politics
Good conversation is important, but when I talk to girls I try to let them do as much talking as possible, so I can connect the dots needed to see what they're about and in the process remain as mysterious as possible.

Besides, I'm not liberal, so my personal politics are going to clash with most girls, and I don't care to defend my rationale to them, and don't care for theirs.

RE: Talking politics
Talking politics as a way of demonstrating personality and that you are aware of current events is fine, but never get into arguments over talking points it takes you away from talking about subjects that are likely to stir her physically.

Good point, if you're trying to turn a girl on, discussing the fake left/right paradigm of American politics is counterproductive to that end.

If repudiating the two mainstream parties makes you stand out as an interesting, independent figure in a world of conformist R's and D's, then it could help you get laid.

RE: Talking politics
If and when I discuss politics with chicks, I'd adhere to the following two guidelines:

1. Avoid it, particularly before the first bang.
It's an unsexy topic that, at best, is going to dry up the trim or, at worst, end in a frustrating quagmire-discussion.

2. When I must discuss it (or want to), keep it on the macro, theoretical level.
I don't bother with the current political bullshit. I immediately take it to the political theory, or the historical level, to avoid trifling arguments about lame current affairs. I talk about Tocqueville, Locke, Hobbes, the French Socialists, that kind of ridiculous shit, not Barack Obama, John Boehner, and Eric Cantor. Fuck those cats. I'm no expert, but I know enough to have a decent conversation in that realm. It DHVs with the right kind of girl and circumvents the pitfalls of the political controversies of the moment. If I happen to be chilling with the right kind of girl, I end up learning something in the process (this doesn't happen all the time, but it has).

So a political affiliation, or in this case, lack thereof, is one thing that's going to make a girl want to fuck a dude?

It's a part of the picture, obviously not enough on its own but if it helps build up an attractive identity then it helps. Not saying it's a magic bullet obviously.

RE: Talking politics
Seems that politics is a double edged sword: it helps build rapport if you share some views but it can lead to disaster as well.
Religion, I imagine girls assessing LTR potential wanting to know about this (or even for something short, I'm atheist and rightly or wrong, if I find out that the guy is religious in any way, my interest plummets, we all have our prejudices I guess)
Exes: when it is absolutely justified by the context, an extra-hyper-super brief mention of an ex girlfriend, that implies some good quality that she had (not looks!) and also implies that you have good memories of your past can be a good thing. Risky though.
To sum up, I'd say proceed with caution and don't miss the hints that indicate you how she breathes (if that makes sense in English)

RE: Talking politics
I understand that talking and debating different political and philosophical differences can be interesting. The problem is that with politics, if you disagree with other people's views they can take it personally. It's almost like their political beliefs can become part of their identity, just like religion. Of course in reality you should consider all ideas and arguments with an open mind but unfortunately this is usually not how it works. I really don't see anything good that can come out of long political discussions with girls, only bad. My advice for talking politics with women you want to sleep with is very simple: DON'T.

+1. Now obviously you don't want to linger on topics like geopolitics, war and economics for very long, but if the girl has a clear interest in this stuff, you can't do any harm showing that you're knowledgeable on these matters. But you'll want to limit your time doing it, and present it in a way that's more emotionally engaging. Rather than talk about latest GDP numbers, I'd rather talk about people I know that are personally effected by these things going on and not so much a pro-this anti-that stance. The last thing you want is to drone on Noam Chomsky style about facts for hours on end.

RE: Talking politics
I don't talk about anything like that unless I am speaking to an immigrant. I find Canadian born and bred women (especially Torontonians) to be very into politically correct bullshyt and anytime you express any form of opinion you kill the opp for punni (and I have very strong opinions).

So especially no gender talk (a date the other wanted to talk about how a particular race of men are more prone to promiscuity) and I negated that with some generic bs.

I don't do political talk either.

It might be different for american women (y'all like that freedom of speech) but it's a killer for Canucks (esp Torontonians) in my experience.

Women are usually so clueless about politics that I tend to know more about their country's politics than they do. Make more than a passing reference to politics and you risk killing the attraction.

Sometimes a girl will bring up political/religious issues because she's screening you as LTR potential.

I always get a kick out of it.

For instance, often if we haven't used a rubber, the issue of pregnancy and abortion comes up.

They ask me what would I do if I got her pregnant and our kid was handicapped. Or homosexual.

I tell 'em "I'd bash its head on a rock and we'd have another". Cue playful swat followed by hot sex.
