I might be getting a possible job offer in Boise in the next few months. It's not definite, but it's a possibility.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on this city.

Specifically:

-People
-Nightlife
-Girls
-Entertainment options and things to do
-Would you live there?

I visited briefly, but only had a few hours to see the city. People seemed friendly, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has lived in the city or spent a significant amount of time there.

I had an opportunity to visit the area last year and spent a month there.

The people are very friendly and down to earth. Mostly salt-of-the-earth types. There's lots of Mormons and Christians up there who take their faith seriously, and it is a hidden gem if you actually want a decent girlfriend or are wife shopping. It is on my to visit list when I'm hunting for a wife.

There are lots of attractive girls up there, and without the bad attitudes of parts of California like San Francisco or L.A. where attractive girls act all snotty. Be a gentleman, lead and don't be a wimp. A lot of those country girls know how to shoot a gun, so if you don't know how, now is the time to learn. Some of the prettiest girls I've ever seen happened to be working in a Cabellas.

I didn't get much of a chance to explore the night life, but there are a handful of decent breweries if you like craft beer. Life moves at a slower pace up there. Don't expect it to have the buzz of a major Metro like Chicago or NYC. People up there know how to chill out, and friends, families and neighbors like to BBQ together.

I really liked the time I spent up there, and if you have the right mindset, you will too.

I spent a day and night in Boise with a girlfriend so I'm certainly not an expert on the subject. With that said, I really liked it. It's got a great vibe with friendly people. I felt the guys were the type I'd want on my side in a fight and the girls were the conservative middle America type I'd like to date. It's a beautiful area with a cool downtown area. Lots of brew pubs, pizza joints and ma and pa shops. There is a hipster scene there though.

My take on the two is that they're not really similar at all, despite both having sizable religious communities and being in the same region.

Salt Lake City feels more like a "West coast facing" culture to me compared to Boise, along the lines of Denver, Phoenix (but still quite different from those of course).

Boise is not like that at all, it has much more common with places in Wyoming and Montana or Eastern Washington, more middle/northern America feel. It doesn't really have the snowboarder types, yuppies etc that you'll find in the larger mountain cities to the south.

Nice people, slower pace. Some good looking, well mannered girls- like you'll find in similar cities of this type

I visited for a few days last summer and I really liked it a lot. Friendly people with a really nice downtown. Real estate is reasonably priced with some really nice homes up in the hills. It's definitely a hidden gem that red pilled guys could go to find some down to earth girls. I'd definitely consider living there.

The consensus for Boise seems to be:

-Friendly people
-Attractive women with good attitudes, women are relationship material
-Slower, smaller-town feel
-Worth living in

I only spent a brief amount of time in Boise, but I definitely can confirm that people seemed friendly. Women seemed nice, but I didn't interact with enough to rate the talent. A lot of the men seemed masculine.

My main concern would be that I'd want a fairly vibrant urban and night life scene. I'm not looking for Chicago or New York City, but I just hope that I wouldn't get bored with the place. The downtown seemed rather small compared to what I've seen before. Of course, maybe I just need to explore the city more too. I'm making another trip within the next couple months, so I'll take a better look at the city on my next trip.

It is smaller than Salt Lake City. Ironically, politically it is more conservative than the heart of Mormon territory. SLC has a lot of SJW's, and their local politics have been liberal for a long time. There are quite a few non-Mormons in SLC proper. SLC has more of a high-tech and jobs hub than Boise IMO. More entrepreneurial activity, Boise is more laid back in that regard. Still, as mid-size U.S. cities go, they are more similar than dissimilar.

If I was being paid for the chance to try living in Boise, I personally would not hesitate.

That being said, I'm not sure if my interest in it would parallel your concerns that seem to be mostly centered around whether or not you will be bored as a single player. If I had the same concerns and my game was nightlife centric, I might reconsider. Relatively small and conservative towns are relatively small and conservative.

If you think that you might enjoy the outdoors there, can put up with the cold season and relative isolation to the rest of the country, and might like to game more traditional girls then I would consider it.

I actually would be fine with a city with relationship oriented women, as long as there's moderate variety. Good dating prospects is important, but I'd actually prefer a relationship to the ONS. As long as these girls aren't looking to get wifed up too quickly, conservative sexual attitudes don't bother me.

My concern actually pertains more to whether Boise is a "boring" city or whether there's a lot to do. Judging by your comment, it seems like you feel like the city offers quite a bit to do.

I love the outdoors and don't have a problem with cold, as long as the springs and summers are beautiful. It does feel a bit isolated from the rest of the country unfortunately.

Yes, and no. There are certainly some white trash elements to both cities. The bottom line is, America as a whole has become a lot more white trash, in every sector from lower-middle class on downward. For example, where I life in California is a pretty cushy neighborhood. You can't find a house for less than $450k, by no means super affordable. You'd think that would keep some of the white trash at bay, but 75% or so of the girls at my local gym have at least ONE tat (that I can see) and a fair number of them are still overweight/chunky. I'd say that SLC and Boise are not overwhelmed with white trash in the way that parts of the south are. Both have just enough church goers and actively involved families/lowerish crime that prevents it from feeling like a meth junkie trailer park. That being said, a man should always do research on the crime stats of an area he's moving into, as well as know some basic self-defense and get a concealed carry permit. Fortune favors the prepared.

I am serious about finding a LTR either here or abroad. Best option for me currently would be to live the in the best U.S. city for that while expanding my options to earn income abroad and travel abroad.

SLC had a pocket of seemingly high quality girls. I really did not enjoy the feel of SLC though - the white trash element got to me. I feel like I would be hiding out from it. It may not be bad or normal compared to lots of America. I am used to the metropolitan areas though.

Do you think I would feel any different visiting Boise? I am wondering if it is worth a plane ticket and a long weekend if I did not think I would want to live in SLC.

Fun fact: Idaho just passed permitless carry. Im planning on establishing a residence in N. Idaho by year's end which I will then pay off by the time I retire from active duty. When it is time to produce some heirs I will return and start a family.

I took a road trip while moving cross country and stayed in Boise, Idaho Falls, and CDA/Sandpoint areas. I would say the it is more conservative and less pious than SLC, having also spent some time there hitting the slopes. Maybe more even keel is what Im trying to convey. Idaho Falls (the whole SE part of Idaho is really) is very mormon centric and there isn't much there at all for nightlife.

I think for the type of lifestyle a majority of RVF members are looking for, Boise is your only option in the state. Moscow is another possible due to the university. Being the political center of Idaho, Boise leans more leftward than the rest of the state but compared to the rest of the US it is still solidly red. The city center has a not too shabby collection of restaurants, bars, and brewpubs but it is still a city of only 250,000 or so.

The girls are definitely conservative/outdoor/farm/shooter types and what I would consider LTR/wife material, from my admittedly short stay if you aren't -or willing to learn- then you better have another claim to fame. I fit that profile in spades so I briefly contemplated going awol and staying there. As far as outdoors go you have it all at your doorstep: hunting, shooting, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, you name it. The cost of living is low compared to the US, but the job market is horrible.

If I wasn't in the mil and had an opportunity to work/live there I absolutely would. Idaho in general is about 40 years behind the US in the social justice warfare area. This probably isn't as much detail as you're looking for but I thought Id share my experience.

So, here's a semi-serious question. How would a non-christian (and non-white) guy go about dating or possibly marrying one of these Boise Mormons and Christians who take their faith seriously? Or in any rural Christian town?

I know Mormon girls usually don't have sex before marriage. Also, is it mandatory that the man convert to Mormonism before marriage? I've met a lot of hot Mormon girls and religion is not a deal-breaker for me. I also have a couple of Mormon friends but its certainly a big learning curve to convert.

In these Mormon and Christian communities do they automatically shun any outsider who is not part of their religion?
Do their parents and friends pressure girls to only marry fellow Mormons or Christians?
Is a willingness to convert the only way these girls would ever consider marriage?

Obviously every individual girl is different and some might be more open-minded dating out.
But these rural towns can be insular, so how will an outsider navigate the cultural and political differences in a multi-faith marriage or relationship?

When it comes to LDS girls, especially ones in the smaller towns temple marriage is just about everything. So basically converting to Mormonism is about the only way. I don't really think that converting to Christianity is a big a deal with other mainstream Christian churches.

As stated above being married in the Temple is the aspiration so yes it would be absolutely mandatory to be join the LDS church.

As much as I hate to say it, in the small towns 99% of it will come down to whether you convert to Mormonism or not, in a place like SLC probably not so much these days.

I plan on retiring in Boise.

I’ve visited a few time and am really impressed.

It has all the amenities of a big city, but small enough that you don’t have to deal with the bullshit of large cities. I feel my stress levels fall when I’m in Boise because I’m not competing for space or resources.

Housing is nice and affordable. The people are nice. Very little multiculturalism so low stress, low crime, and no resentful SJWs.

Winters are a little colder than what I’d like, but they get a lot of sunshine so winter is not as oppressive as the NE or Midwest.

Boise has been near the top of my list if I decide on a US base again. However, it is a heavily Democratic city and Hillary stomped Trump in Boise even though Trump handily won the state so that sends up a red flag for me. My concern is that as the left gets increasingly loony that Boise will increasingly not be a good place to be for someone on the right who is anti SJW. Unlike SF, LA or NYC, there will at least be a sizable subset of non left but any general activity that brings together a variety of people may soon have to be avoided in any place that is majority Democratic.
