I think there's some factual basis to calling them white knights in history too. Supposedly when they were riding over the sun would glint off the armor and it would appear white at a distance. The armor itself was never white of course because it would be exceedingly stupid to have a giant piece of armor painted white in battle.

On the other hand this is the medieval era we're talking about. Knights riding over to "help" usually meant having your shit stolen if you're a peasant under an unprotected lord and or actual rape going on.

I think it has more to do with the longstanding filmmaking tradition of dressing the good guy in light coloured clothing and the villain in black. This worked well until Batman entered the scene and no one knew what to think.

nah, the term: "white knight" comes from the stereotypical fairy tale white knight who a rescues princess from a dragon or a black knight and then expects her to fall in love for him for rescuing her. I think the term "White Knight" is misused. A true white knight would be strong, powerful, a force for black knights to deal with. Yes they work for the purpose of good, but military, firefighters, police etc all fall into that category too. The white knights motives were generally the upholding of good, *Through force*.

Contrast this with the SJW 'white knight'. Generally weaker than all around, and the only real similarity is wanting to save the weak, but in the case specifically hot women. Second, his motives have nothing to do with the upholding of justice, merely, 'if I save her, maybe I can bang her?'. Simply put, he's not a white knight because his motives are corrupt, and ability lacking.

I'd rather have even our degraded current lives than be a medieval serf (not least because in my mid-30s I'd probably be already dead of old age).

The knights of fiction are so different from the original version it's laughable. You think the collateral damage in recent wars is an issue? Knights could demolish a village, murder the inhabitants, rape the women, and raze their crops with total impunity - unless another band of knights turned up wanting to do similar, then they would fight to see who got to have a go.

In the book, Elias talks about "first nature" - animal nature, and "second nature" - manners/respect.

First nature is easy - eat, sleep, fuck, fight. Civilisation is entirely reliant on second nature being taught to people, enabling them to selectively suppress their natural instincts.
