Hit a guy who antagonizes you on camera and the amount of trouble you get into depends on how badly it looks like you've hurt him.

Blood everywhere, you go to jail. Hit him while he's down, you go to jail. Break a limb or fingers, you go to jail.

Soft spots on the lower body are the liver, solar plexus, and kidneys. Hitting those soft spots is the way to hurt a guy bad, while appearing to be gentle.

The second time I broke my hand on someone's skull, the orthopedist said, "In a fight between the bones of the hand and the bones of the face, the face bones win. They are very hard." My hand was also flayed by the guy's teeth, bleeding and got a tetanus shot and antibiotics.

On the gun issue, a guy contacted me because he wanted me to represent him in a case to get his concealed carry permit back. I talked to him and got the police report. It was after a snowstorm, sidewalks were narrowed and obstructed by snow. This was in the middle of the city. Two middle aged black guys were walking past him and they jostled together. This led to words and a stand-off confrontation. This guy pulled his gun on them! Someone called the police seeing this. This led to him having his permit being taken away.

The guy told me he feared for his life. He did not have a city accent, from somewhere else. He seemed very tense in an autistic nerdy kind of way. Could not judge between a real threat and everyday city life.

I didn't take the case, because: 1. The guy was unwilling to pay me a large enough retainer, and 2. After talking to him, I didn't think the guy should carry a gun in the city.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on when and where guns are suitable, this video and others like it are powerful promotions for tasers, stun guns and pepper spray where it's legal to own, carry and use them.

Pepper spray not so much in a crowded area like this, but there's no way I'd be in a city like this without at least a stun gun (ironically named, given they are typically confused with tasers, which are the ranged variety).

We had a guy like this in my city.

He was a drunk mess, a loser, going around harassing and shouting at students, calling them names all night long. I was never involved, just watching.

Then one day I met him and said hi to him and treated him like a normal guy, and he was very nice. You could see he was just a very sad, destroyed man with no future.

These homeless guys have nothing to lose, they go around wanting attention, they want to feel like they exist, even if that means you beating them up. You need to walk away and ignore them, because beating them up means you get into a lot of trouble. The law doesn't back you up, you don't feel like a hero, you get arrested and you have to clear your name.

That being said I can't believe that Ben Affleck wannabe guy let this dude walk all over him like this. He looked like a total pussy. Walk away or fight, don't stand there like this, it's the worst thing to do.

I had a homeless guy come up and ask me for change one time. I didn't know he was talking to me until he called me a asshole afterwards. At that moment my blood was boiling and I wanted to kick him to the ground and give him a good stomping. After that day I decided that if anyone ever comes up to me asking for it, I'll give it to them.

Some people in the world are just looking for a good beating imo and the guy in the video was one of them

From information freely available on the internet it appears that the terminal velocity of most bullets would be relatively low, but some could approach 250-300 feet per second which is plenty fast enough to cause relatively minor damage such a bruise or broken skin and a shallow open wound depending on where/how it contacts you. It's plausible that it could do more damage than that but it's unlikely.

Characterizing it as harmless is inaccurate, and besides that there's no benefit to a warning shot in these situations. You really shouldn't pull a gun in these environments if you intend to fire a warning shot as if you're the star of a spaghetti western.

Never fight with someone clearly unstable, you can't reason with them and their craziness leads to wild, yet possibly, powerful punches.

In a book I was reading, it actually seems the untrained have natures advantage of a huge surge of adrenaline and volume of punches (even if they are wild) it is a defensive mechanism. Whereas, a trained fighter doesn't get that surge. It was sort of a fascinating read but definitely informed me just to avoid fighting.

An unstable person would probably initiate the fight and have that first move advantage, he would already be at an aggressive state, while the other guy is probably just trying to calm the situation down.

Also, if you hit a homeless guy and caught your hand in this teeth, the teeth have some bad germs and can cause a bad infection (remember a guy as a kid doing that and got a terrible infection).

Legally speaking, some states do not have 'stand your ground' laws (not sure about NY). SYG laws are protections for the victim of a crime that say 'you will not be punished for standing strong' when something is going down.

States without SYG laws usually require you to make all attempts to flee or remove yourself (even while you are the victim). Pretend the bum swings at you, and you swing back. You punch him, his head smacks the concrete, and he sues you for causing brain damage.

The court will look at your immediate retaliation and find you guilty for not retreating.

Of course in states with SYG, if he instigates and you immediately swing back, you are completely justified matching force with force.

If you are in a state with SYG protection and pull a gun while he his doing this intimidation, you are responding with unwarranted deadly force and could get nailed with very bad charges.

Pulling a gun in this situation is idiotic. If anything if you are carrying concealed you have more obligation (legally speaking) to retreat. You should only be drawing if you are in immediate fear for your life and intend to shoot.

The homeless guy is obviously a bully seeking out people he perceives as weak. I'm not sure fighting is the best option. There are plenty of homeless in Union Square and you never know if you're going to get jumped by a group. But for damn sure if some crazy guy is getting in my face, I'm not sitting down. From a body language standpoint alone you'd better believe I'll be on my feet. The homeless guy standing over the kid only emboldened him.

I think many guys are missing the point here. Forget about alphas, betas, cucks, the point scale, and all the pickup lingo for a sec. It's irrelevant whether this young kid is a "cuck" and what kind of girl he is with, a bespectacled Asian 5 or a fat 2. He has a right to use public spaces and not be bothered. What he looks like and who he chooses to spend his time with doesn't affect his rights.

That bum who assaulted him is fucking scum of the earth. I was also bothered by assholes like him, though none of them ever physically assaulted me. The thing is, you can't win in a situation like thus. If you ignore the asshole, he'll keep bothering you. If you tell him to fuck off (I did), he'll curse at you 10 times more before he leaves. If you punch him in the face, you might go to jail and get AIDS or something. I have nothing against bums who don't bother anybody, but those who do...if all those fucking bastards drop dead tomorrow, the rest of us will be better off.

Rights only exist for those willing to fight for their rights. Or if there is a way to enforce their rights. It always comes down to the barrel of a gun or some form of physical violence...even when it comes to things like paying taxes.

No one here would argue he's deserves not to be bothered. The point was how he handled it.

If you feel threatened you have every right to warn someone that you are armed. One of the commands we learned in my concealed carry class is "STOP! I am armed and will shoot you to the ground!"

That doesn't mean you have to do it, all you're saying is that if the person chooses to attempt to hurt you they'll know what's coming.
