This is my first post so allow me to introduce myself. I go by G or Nottingham. I'm 23 and I'm currently living in New Orleans, Louisiana with my father. I work a 9-5 and submit applications for new work all the time, but I don't see any way out of this.
I've been living here in New Orleans for about 9 months and I originally moved here from Cali to retrieve a car from my father. Upon arrival, my father acted as if he had no idea what I came for. Typical. My father is an alcoholic and has always been a liar, but the moment he offered me a car I was struggling in California. I had no car and took public transport everywhere and this strongly affected where and what jobs I could take on in LA. Besides that I was going out trying to get film roles and going to stand-up open mics. Life was hard, but I was happy to be chasing my dream.
Fast forward to right now. I've been living with my father, who has money, but promised 6 months ago to give me cash so that I could go back to LA and get a car. Yesterday night we had an argument about what my plans are for the future, he keeps trying to convince me to go to the army, even though he knows I plan to go back home to LA. I feel like this is the only reason he offered me a car and told me to come back to New Orleans. He wanted to trap me here knowing I was broke, then take advantage of my desperation to make me give up on my dream career.
Anyways last night I finally got him to crack, it took an hour of logically arguing through all his bullshit and false memories. At one point he tripped up and admitted to remembering offering me his car, then he tripped up again telling me he already sold the car by the time I left California. So at the end of the night he offers me 6000 dollars and a trip back home, but I don't know how to approach him right now.
I desperately want to get back to my old life. I want to go back home, go back to the gym, buy new clothes ( all I wear down here is cargo pants and band tees, I left all my clothes back home ) and finally get some pussy. But I've been in New Orleans for months. My apt is gone, my old job is occupied and even back then I was without a clue as to how to dress, where to work or really how to make it in Los Angeles.
TL;DR I've got a few problems. I've got very little cash saved. My degenerate of a father says he's got 6000 for me, but he's lied to and about me so many times as it is and I don't know how to approach him so that I can leave this city money in hand. And when I finally get back to Los Angeles what the hell am I gonna do? I'll be coming in hot and cutting it real close.

Some added info about me just in case these matter:
I'm African American.
I'm visibly overweight in my current gear.
Speaking of style, I currently have none. I mean all I can get away with are my Khaki Chinos and 2 pairs of dress shoes brown and black.
I stand at 6'0. So most girls don't find me too intimidating, I feel like 6'0 is perfect for a black guy.
I'm very articulate and to the point. I've been called a charmer and my smiles and body language are above average in my opinion.
I've got 6100 dollars in grant money that I have access to.
Also I've got a big resume.
That's about it. If you need to know more about me just ask. Make sure to read the thread if there are responses, I've seen a few misunderstandings take place just because someone's answer was already answered somewhere else in the thread. And please if you feel like you can't give advice tell someone else on the forum to check this out, I don't care how harsh they may be, all advice would be so important.

You're 23 years old WITH a full-time job... and you complain about how your life is hard because you moved to L.A and had to apply for jobs without a car bought for you.

Nobody owes you shit. Especially your dad who actually provided some decent advice when he told you to join the army. You clearly need someone to pull your head in.

Read the forum a bit and look at what we aspire too. Read the newbie FAQ.

And if you're looking for a TL;DR version
-Lift Weights
-Cut out fast food
-Learn to eat healthy
-Learn to talk to other human beings and talk to as many people as humanely possible through small talk

That's where you should start in general. More importantly you aren't entitled to shit. Your dad doesn't need to give you anything nor should you expect him too. Take the 6k and get out of dodge. Or better yet if you need a car just get an old Honda Accord for about a bit over 5k. They're cheap and reliable.

If anything you're stuck in your current situation because of yourself. Someone with a large resume should have a large network. Start hustling and get yours. Once you're back in L.A. do the above for 6 months and then come back and we can give you more specific advice.

You should cut the bullshit about LA and focus on that job in the 504. Get paid, move out, find direction on your own.

Lose some weight. Don't worry about style until you're not fat anymore. Skip some meals to save money.

And GAME. You live in New Orleans man. If I moved to the city proper I would have a new notch in the time it took to write this post. If you live there and can't get laid you don't have a dick.

Look at what you have and don't bitch about your dad. If it's as bad as you say, take it on the chin and deal with it.

I don't get it. I never said my dad owes me anything. I just spoke to a few people about this already. So far my only plan is to move out now. I don't see why I'd join the military, I was doing shitty in Cali and all, but I was happy.
All I was asking from the forum goers was how I should approach my dad about his offer ie whether I should tell him to go screw himself and leave or take the cash if he's being real. And what I should do upon getting back home. Also the chinos are already in my possession. I own them. I wrote that pretty clearly. And how is this trolling, I'm not cursing people out, or talking about anything controversial. I'm not baiting anyone into yelling at each other. Overall I don't get why and maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like your pissed at me.

grant money is for school. As in when I get back home I've got re-enroll for school. I didn't save that cash and it can only be used for tuition and school fees.

I don't know why my dad offered me his car. I've been talking to my friends and I've been angry for more than awhile and some of them have suggested that he may have done this to get us closer together. While I was away from home for 2 years, my dad never contacted me. I called him during holidays and near Christmas is when he offered me his car.
Now, let me get one thing clear. My dad and I have no relationship. At the time I had very little cash and I took some of it and spent it to come down here. I think I've just been bitterly working down here this whole time.
Again I don't know why he offered me anything in the first place. And I get that I've put a lot of thought into it. I'm just going to cut my losses. I've got no reason to stay here and my Dad only reminds of why I left here in the first place. I don't want to come off ungrateful for yours or the others advice. But I left here as soon as I could and if I didn't puss out and jump for someone else's money as soon as they offered it, I wouldn't be in this mess.
I got greedy, I don't blame anyone who reads my original post and thinks that I need to forget about LA. Just reading it all over has made me realize the mistakes I've made over the last year. I don't need anybody else's money, but my own.
I got stuck in the past and thought my dad wanted to make things better between us, but mostly I got caught up thinking about free shit.
I'm headed back home. I want to go back to school and start over again.
