I just moved into a pretty dope flat in a major city and now am looking for a flat-mate.

Some Points:

• great location for young international people, nice furniture, etc.
• not cheap but not too expensive
• contract limited to max. 6 months
  

I put up ads and so far have:

Guy A

Student (Arquitecture), internship in a fancy arquitecture office

Guy B

Student (Pedagogy), internship in an christian help organization

Girl A

From NY, works for an art sales agency

Girl B

Polish girl, Graphic Designer, works for a start-up, pretty hot (she send me her fb)

What do you think of the bunch? Any apparent red flags I'm missing? Also, what do think of the idea of fucking your (hot) flat-mate when she is gone in 3 months? Not that I'm considering it...

How badly do you need a flatmate? Living alone is worth a LOT in my opinion.

Rule 1, never live with girls. Period. They'll either fall in love with you or resent you for not sleeping with them.

9/10 your flat mate won't be your best friend and game with you. He'll just be around you and do his own thing.

He's just someone that will live with you. Nothing more.

Yeah, I would prefer living alone, but for now, I absolutely need a flatmate. I'm about to finish my MA in Engineering next semester and hence, am not drowning in cash. I got the flat through family connections. Therefore, I'm paying a pretty decent price, a couple of hundered bucks below market rate. This together with a very tight situation in the housing market of the city allows me, to rent out the room for an amount well above of what I'm paying.

I've lived with a variety of people before and know about the pitfalls of shared living spaces. That's why my plan is to only rent it out for a couple of months a time without the possibilty of an extension of the contract. That way, in case of him/ her getting on my balls, the tenant will be gone soon anyhow.

It also depends on their habits. Living with a slob is what creates most problems. If I'm going to share, I'd rather have my own bathroom(that's a deal breaker for me). I can work around sharing a kitchen and common areas. Cleaning up someone else's piss and shit is not an option for me.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. Also, my pool of candidates is getting bigger by the minute. Next time, I'll raise the price. Crazy what people are willing to pay.

I actually live with a girl. She's tidy and easy to get along with. In the last few months I've brought a few amount of girls home and she's been cool with it.

It's not a simple choice but I would eliminate the Polish girl. If you find her attractive there's the chance you'll hook up. In the short run this might be appealing but later down the line you'll regret it. Feelings, jealousy, expectations etc. You don't need that, especially since you'll be concentrating on your studies. Don't shit where you sleep.

Have you considered renting the room out on a short term basis air bnb style? It may be more profitable in the long run but more hassle to maintain.

I thought of using Airbnb but it's too much hassle for me at the moment. Maybe I'll do it occacionally in the future.

I met with some of the candidates. And will meet some more. An update:

Girl A from NY, art sales
I decided against meeting this girl. She only works 3 days a week and I'm not looking forward to hear vocal fry in my flat.

Guy A, arquitecture intern
Found something else

Guy B, christian pedagogy guy
Seemed alright and is gone in 3.5 months, would rent it to him

Girl B, Polish graphic designer
I'm not sure. Seemed alright, but also like a person who is easily stressed. Vegan and looked kind of anemic. Broke up with her bf 1-2 months ago (potential drama unfolding?)

Girl C, arquitecture student from Switzerland
Only via Skype. Seemed nice and will be gone in 4 months, would rent it to her

I've lived with girls before and think that you are right, it's easier to get along with a guy. Nevertheless, since it's only short term, I'm not opposed to rent the flat to a girl, as well.

I just moved out and found a young Colombian roommate . Rooming with this women is tough because shes so easy going , never stopping my advances, always supportive and fun. Its only bad if I spend alot of time in the flat otherwise when im doing my thing its out of sight out of mind. During our month as of last night she became a stripper . Her ego so huge for being a 5 and she knows she wouldve never gotten that much male attention any other way. I'm just trying to find the balance now between putting my energy to want to bang her all the time and channeling it between working out, starting a business, and chasing as many chicks as I possibly can .

Any words of advice from fellow members would also be appreciated because sometimes I feel like im going backwards instead of forwards.

Unfortunately, he found something less expensive and hence, I took the Swiss student. She seemed alright and since she is Swiss, I recon that she is somewhat trustworthy, reliable and responsible. Oh, and of course has money. If shit hits the fan and she turns out to be a cunt, she'll be gone soon either way.

You are looking for a flat mate , not a wing man.
Someone who sits in their room reading books and makes no mess is the perfect flat mate ..
