Sad, but then again he was 90 years old. The work he did on albums like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper was groundbreaking. What makes it really amazing to me is when you look at Sgt.Pepper, that was all done on four track. To my knowledge the American studios had already long since moved to eight track by 1967. That they created such a universally appealing and sonically innovative record with that kind of limitation (imagine all the bouncing down of guitar, piano and vocal overdubs, the orchestra on "A Day In The Life", for example) is a testament to the kind of creativity which has been dead for a long time in the music world. Digital made everything more convenient, but when you can do every possible thing at the touch of a button, with more tracks than you're ever going to need anyway, where's the challenge?

Underrated, the man was a genius and helped them out a great deal early on. Was instrumental in getting EMI to sign them to Parlophone.
