New book about women's emerging "options"
Giving credit where credit is due .
*****************************************
In her new book, "All the Single Ladies," Ms. Anthony argues that an increasing number of single women are choosing to be single to find themselves and the state should hurry up and dish out some subsidies. To support women's hard-work and independence, Ms. Anthony asks for "stronger equal-pay protections, a higher minimum wage, more subsidized housing for singles, increased welfare, paid family leave and other big-government policy ideas."

Ms. Anthony wants the government to implement policies which create disincentives for work so that she and her fellow women can, well, "work"?

From a different article - "Research by the Hamilton Project and the Urban Institute show that when families with children making between $20,000 and $50,000 attempt to have a second earner go back to work, the effective tax rate on the extra earnings—including lost government benefits such as food stamps, the earned-income tax credit, and medical support payments—is between 50% and 80%" Is it not logical that the more benefits the government implements, the more incentive people have to sit on their ass and collect these benefits?

Quote:The Hubby State Welcomes You

Unmarried, divorced and widowed women now make up the majority of the female electorate. What will they do with their power?

March 3, 2016 6:56 p.m. ET
In 1877, nearly half a century before American women were granted the right to vote, Susan B. Anthony predicted a coming “epoch of single women.” That epoch has finally arrived. For the first time in American history, the majority of the female electorate is now composed of single women.

That’s the upshot of Rebecca Traister’s “All the Single Ladies.” The book is both a sweeping history of the “invention of female adulthood” and a polemical defense of this “new category of citizen,” whose “expanded power,” she claims, “signals a social and political rupture as profound as the invention of birth control, as the sexual revolution, as the abolition of slavery, as women’s suffrage and the feminist, civil rights, gay rights, and labor movements.”

Through a mixture of reportage, research, personal anecdote and policy prescriptions, Ms. Traister argues that single women—by which she means women who are unmarried, widowed or divorced—are poised to force government to “remake conditions in a way that will be more hospitable to female independence.” American men, she argues, have enjoyed the benefits of a “wifey state,” through grants, loans, incentives and tax breaks that support their ownership of homes and businesses. Perhaps the time has come for a “hubby state,” in the form of stronger equal-pay protections, a higher minimum wage, more subsidized housing for singles, increased welfare, paid family leave and other big-government policy ideas.

If your idea of a pioneering American single lady begins with Gloria Steinem, Ms. Traister will make you think again. Her argument is that radically minded unmarried women—even in periods when such women were derided as spinsters or seductresses—have long wielded “nation-shaping power.” But single women like writer Louisa May Alcott (“liberty is a better husband than love to many of us,” she said in 1868) and Settlement House founders Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr were always exceptional. Today, writes Ms. Traister, singlehood is the norm.

The author, a columnist at New York magazine, was single until she was 35; she draws on her 14 “independent years,” along with interviews with more than 100 women, to offer up a group portrait of single women today. Some are having one-night stands. Some are saving themselves for marriage. Some are freezing their eggs. Some are adopting. Others say they never want kids. Some are on welfare; some are dominating their offices. The point of all these voices is to make it clear that there is no one stereotypical experience of being on your own.

“The vast increase in the number of single women is to be celebrated not because singleness is in and of itself a better or more desirable state than coupledom,” Ms. Traister writes. “The revolution is in the expansion of options.” And yet it often feels as if she is straining hard to find the celebratory in every aspect of single life—even the obviously painful phenomena, like loneliness.

Take her chapter on the sex lives of single women. The basic argument is that casual sex among unmarried young adults is nothing new and that “so-called hook-up culture” is a conservative bugaboo used to pressure young women into monogamy and early marriage. Drawing heavily on a 2013 New York Times article about campus sex, which itself relied on interviews with just 60 young women at Penn, she concludes that many girls who are hooking up in college are doing so because they’re careerist: They want to spend their free time building their résumés, not romantic relationships.

It is left to the author’s research assistant, a college student, to undercut this all too convenient, all too cheery gloss. Rhaina Cohen, reports the author, “expressed reservations about my putting too positive a spin on a culture of casual sex.” Ms. Cohen points out that her friends have “turned to hooking up” because “they think that’s what’s expected and it’s all men will permit.” Her take will ring far truer than Ms. Traister’s for any co-ed who has swiped right in the past few years.

The author’s contortions are also apparent in her attempt to yoke the experiences of poor, minority women with the choices of upper-middle-class ones. “Struggling single women with children,” she writes, “are often operating based on the same impulses that guide the sushi-gobbling grad students who stand for a new kind of unmarried autonomy: a desire to fill their lives with meaning and direction, to live independently.” Maybe. But then she introduces us to Pamela, who held things together heroically when she got pregnant at 17: She went to college, and her boyfriend picked up a second job to help support their child. But Pamela’s assessment of the males in the South Bronx neighborhood where she grew up is blunt. “I don’t feel like those men are somebody that I would like to marry or that I would like to raise a family with.”

Yes, Pamela is opting out of marriage. But she and other disadvantaged young mothers aren’t forgoing weddings because they have so many options but because they have so few. More than wanting to “live independently,” young mothers may fear giving up welfare, like Emmalee, a 24-year-old the author meets in Brooklyn. If the “sushi-gobbling grad student,” on the other hand, had gotten pregnant at 17, chances are that she would have had an abortion. And her reasons for waiting to marry wouldn’t be that half the men in her community were in jail or unemployed.

Pamela, we learn, recently graduated from New York’s City College and is now working as a legal assistant at the Office of the Bronx District Attorney while she applies to law school. She’s dating the same man; they’re expecting another daughter. Maybe they’ll even marry, just as Ms. Traister did.

Comedy. Just pure fucking comedy.

So she wants to double down on the degeneracy with the state subsidizing the carousel lifestyle for all the single women. Then a few paragraphs later she's talking about loneliness and waxing emo about the lifestyle.

This is what her hamster looks like:

I did a bad job quoting the article - its an Op-Ed about her book in which the author of the Op-Ed points out that she and her co-warriors are destined for loneliness.

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
One thing I've noticed about the first generation of feminists (those who are now elderly) is that many lacked the ability to save and develop a plan for retirement so they are living in public housing after squandering the money from their careers and divorcing their husbands.

I imagine this will only get worse in the years ahead.

Can't bring myself to listen to this horse shit but I did read the comments..

Quote:I think, in general. people in the United States today, both men and women, are in denial about their most basic, most intimate emotions. I think many, many people in our society are deeply lonely but refuse to acknowledge it.

I'm a woman who only got married at age 40. No kids. I spent all of the prior years in and out of relationships, working, making friends and losing them, etc. At age 36, I finally acknowledged profound loneliness and decided to fix what I needed to fix to be able to stay in a relationship. I was so sick of eating dinner alone; bearing all expenses alone; having to go out and spend money in order to have companionship; going entire weekends without talking to anyone and actually looking forward to going to work so I could have some contact (Sundays--a family day--are the worst); cooking alone; not having someone with whom to discuss basic household dilemmas etc. I think humans are social beings and we like to have someone nearby in our own living space, to comfort us, to keep us warm, to acknowledge our humanity, etc.

Americans politicize and mediatize and justify and rationalize every aspect of life. Sometimes, daily life is just basic and simple.

I hope the book under discussion acknowledges that the singledom of ladies is not entirely a triumph.

So typical. Finally gets it when she can no longer really have kids and then wants to lock a man down after years of the cock carousel.

Quote:I am a single female who has lived independently since the age of 17,
when I started college. Now, as a 28 year-old professional, I find myself in a different part of the country. Growing up in the northeast with a strong single mother as a role model, I've been encouraged to live a life that is full filling to me, whatever that might be. Now in the southeast I feel like a unicorn where most of the women in my circle are married and starting families. Personally, being single for me is by choice. I'm a product of divorce. And I hold myself to high standards, refusing to settle just to have a partner. Unfortunately men have grown up in a different way, and I have not found one that I share view points with. Economically, I prepared for a life on my own starting very early on.

This one dedicates herself to the cock carousel 4 life and announces her intentions as a strong independent womyn. So stunning and brave!

Quote:Having tried the online dating thing in my 50's, I found that men in mid life are much more desperate to get married and not have to be on the hunt for sex. They aren't as lucky to find a mate for sex as they were when they were younger and they don't have the energy. They were very quick to want to "lock up the deal". I am not. I think that they are lonely, want sex, and don't want to have to keep house and cook.

50 year old granny-age menopausal woman online dating and not wanting to settle down just yet.

Quote:I've seen so many marriages fall apart, especially as the men hit their 40's and 50's. Why marry again when it's really considered a temporary relationship until they get bored and then next new, younger face comes along? Women can stick together and be loyal friends long term. Most men can't or don't want to.

Everyone who is even slightly red pill knows the opposite is true. Women backstab and turn on each other in a heartbeat. It is in their nature. Men stay friends for far longer.

Quote:As a 37 year old, single woman, this book and this conversation reounds with me. I have spent my mid and late twenties, and now mid-thirties with all of my friends and family fretting about when I'm going to get married. I am NOT opposed to marriage, there is just no one I have met with him I would like to get married! I am financially successful, professionally happy, fulfilled emotionally with in many, many relationships that I have my life, ans am open to having a child on my own. However, the biggest stumbling block to being single at my age is the narrier to home ownership. I feel that without a partner I will ever be able to affird a home. I live in a major metropolitan area, where housing prices continue to rise. I could choose to move to afforedable city, but would then lose my network.

Men should always watch out for women like this. They enjoy the lifestyle but want a man solely for material purposes. She's already talking about home ownership and implying that she would only settle down for a man to bear the burden of buying her a house. This can only end one way for the man..

This is a frequent topic on that show. I recent On Point "singe ladies" topic was dating apps, which featured a panel of two women and an effeminate male.

During the course of the show, a woman called up and said that she met a man online who she immediately clicked with. They dated for months until she decided she could do better. She went back on the market and was then routinely rejected by the men with whom she was interested.

Her question was how to deal with constant rejection. The response was with a chuckle, medication and therapy.

Women are "free" so free that they all need government aid and paid for meds to deal with loneliness, broken hearts, empty careers and a childless existence.

Our social structures are breaking down and feminist can only look at it from their ideological glasses of emancipation.

Yes the interview was disappointing for mostly lacking any red pill counterpoints. However, there was one point where it came close, when a caller on the phone, who sounded almost in tears, mentioned how for women like herself who wanted to marry but postponed it, potential suitors disappeared as she got older.

"If you will it, Dude, it is no dream."

The results of unnecessary psych medication is usually weight gain and even more wacky personality issues as side effects.

The therapy part of it merely paves over reality with self delusion.

As usual women dispense the worst advice for other women.

I would have liked someone to connect the dots between this phenomenon and the rise in female depression and use of anti-depressants (which has also been covered on that show).

The problem with any kind of in depth study examining links between single women, mental health, medication, and overall depression statistics is that it is counter narrative.

It would immediately be blocked by any mainstream university and the person doing it would be crucified by ivory tower feminists. Actually not just feminists would go after this hard but pharm companies too. Single women are probably their bread and butter these days.

I also believe that this type of overmedication is probably severely damaging to reproduction too. I know a few psych meds have severe side effects when it comes to the ability to give birth. Also who knows what the fuck these psych meds do to a fetus. Maybe all the autism spikes is due to this type of overmedication but idiots are blaming stuff like vaccinations. We will probably never know for certain. All I can say is stay far away from women who are doped up like this. They are poisoning their bodies and minds.

Pretty sure the welfare state for working women won't be in their favour as they would like to believe. Certainly not in the coming years.

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
We tend to learn best from our own mistakes. Sometimes, reading a book or article that "makes sense" simply isn't good enough. We have to make the mistake ourselves, and feel the pain that comes as a result of it, in order to correct our path.

Unfortunately, a childless woman at 40 years of age cannot correct her path. Women are so lacking in conscious self-awareness, and so good at self-deception in order to preserve self-esteem, that being an old, barren, used up slut with absolutely nothing to show for her life apart from sagging, scaled meatflaps and a $35k secretary job, is only likely to be conceded as the problem after many years, possibly after many sessions of therapy, at which point it is too late. There are some life mistakes that cannot be corrected. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, for women is choosing not to have children.

As for men, even if we are single, we through government indirectly pay these women to engage in such lifestyles, but for many entitled beasts, this is still not enough. In countries which have very generous welfare systems and healthcare free at the point of access, the indirect payment from men to women is even greater. I am not an economist but I am curious as to what my overall tax % would look like if I were not subsidizing the degenerate lifestyle choices of modern western women.

And since I use my $$ to make love to beautiful women in different countries, you could say that western women are still cockblocking me even when I am on the other side of the planet.

The proportion of state money used to support women as a ratio of that used to support men should be calculated and taxes adjusted accordingly. We hear so many fabrications about mythical "wage gaps", regarding government spending I would like to see the actual numbers analyzed properly once and for all by credible economists and adjustments made. These women would no doubt scream discrimination when in fact it is equality that begins to bite, and they finally learn they were lucky to ever have it so good. Of course this will never happen.

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
Regarding the above, here's some analysis I did a couple of years ago and posted on RoK in response to a comment by an (assumed) feminist. So, the figures are a little out of date but I can't imagine much has changed in the overall dynamic. She posted;

"In the U.S., an estimated 8.6 million women-owned businesses contribute $1.3 trillion to the economy and employ 7.7 million Americans, according to an April report commissioned by American Express OPEN, the credit card giant's small business division. What's more, the number of women-owned firms with $10 million or more in annual sales has increased 57 percent over the past decade."

My response;

The latest figures from the World Bank puts the annual GDP of the US economy at 16.8 trillion dollars. The link you quote celebrates that female owned businesses are contributing 1.3 trillion dollars or 7.7% of this.

The latest figures from the US Department of Labor puts the number of civilians employed at a whisker under 144 million. The link you quote trumpets that female owned businesses employ 7.7 million or 5.3% of this.

This is all that women, as a group, can bring to the table after 50 years of 'equal' opportunity, affirmative action in education, huge amounts of legislation to tilt the playing field in their favour and the complete re-tooling of the working world to suit their needs? 7.7% of GDP? After 50 years?

Christ, after WW2 it took men only 20 years to rebuild the whole of Europe.

But that's not the worst of it;

Pew Research Social and demographic trends found that in 2012, 49% of men and 61% of women had ever received payments from at least one the big six entitlement programs. The same report revealed that more women receive multiple benefits than do men, so the actual value of the benefits paid by sex will inevitably show a greater disparity. This figure is never published (wonder why?) but let’s say that by value, the benefits paid splits 35% male 65% female. The President's FY 2013 budget allocated just around 1.7 trillion dollars to these programs, which means women are receiving approx. 1.1 trillion dollars.

If we assume that female owned businesses in your link are paying 20% of their 7.7% of GDP to BDG as tax (they're not, female run businesses are significantly smaller and less profitable than male ones, but indulge me) then they are paying in about 260 billion dollars. Or about 850 billion dollars less than what women, as a group, at taking out of the pot.

It is clearly delusional to state that women, as a group, are paying their way.

But it gets even worse.

Whilst women, as a group, are being subsidised by men, as a group, to the tune of 850 billion dollars a year, every year, we are all supposed to be chanting the mantra that women are men's equals, that they must be respected like men, that they can perform and deliver like men.

It's sickening.

Because the cost of pretending that women are equal isn't just measured in those 850 billion dollars.

They are more truly measured in the broken men, exhausted women, fatherless children, fractured families and ruined lives it takes to keep a handful of women at the 'top'.

And for what? Bragging rights?

Hell of a price to pay for a bunch of hot air.

Its amazing how out of control the hamsters have grown, kind of depressing really.

"In primitive times women clung to the strongest males for protection. They did not take any chances with a nobody, low-status male who did not have the means to house them, protect them, and feed them and their offspring. High-status males displayed their prowess through their kick-ass attitudes. They were not afraid to think for themselves and make their own decisions. They did not give a crap about what other people in the tribe thought. That kind of attitude is associated with the kind of men women find attractive. It may not be politically correct to say but who cares. It is common sense and it's true- and always will be."

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
Mediocre white woman #483568 rationalizing why she's single.

Notice how all these women talk about how professional and worldly they are, try to be funny, etcetera. The subtext of bitterness is easy to see. It's simply the same old story, they're angry that Chad Thundercock never asked them out, or used to and doesn't any more, or banged them behind a dumpster several years ago and never called again.

If they removed the feminist blinders and gained some humility, life would be better for them.

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
Careerist girls know what they are doing (sort of). They specifically don't want to be "tied down" with family and kids when they are in their early twenties. They have a job, money, and Tinder.

It's just that the harsh realities of biology mean waiting until their 30's makes them compete with girls ten years younger.

"If you will it, Dude, it is no dream."

RE: New book about women's emerging "options"
These women are lying. To themselves and to other women. They're talking their book. Because they're single, they think everyone should be the same. There is no need for us to get upset or to try to convince them of anything. Do not fall into the trap of having a negative reaction to them; people are going to do what they're going to do. They are easy to identify and avoid.

The vast majority of women want a man in their life, they've just been badly misled about things, and now have few attributes that make them worthwhile. I see it all the time, but I don't waste a second thinking about them.
