We lost one of the all-time great character actors, George Kennedy. Kennedy was born into a show biz family and joined the military during WW2. He might have stayed in the military if not for a back injury after 16 years. He then returned to show business at an age when most actors have given up, staring with an uncredited role in Spartacus. He would later win a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in Cool Hand Luke.

He worked with Clint Eastwood in two memorable roles in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and The Eiger Sanction. The second film is my favorite Eastwood movie.
