It's pretty straight forward actually...it's not a zero sum game.
You want to create relationships that enrich your life.

Also the more people you know and like, the easier it is to navigate
different social circles and meet more interesting people.

I live in a military community so there's a big emphasis on community...
reaching out to different people and helping each other. In that environment
you meet a lot of cool people...guys and girls who are pretty awesome..
help each other out...so you appreciate friendships with really cool girls.
