First and foremost, what type of computer are you running(make and model)?

Also what is prompting you for a BIOS update? Generally computers don't have a means to update the BIOS unless you go out of your way to update it via the manufacturer's website.

I find it strange something is trying to update it.

He could also have some adware thats trying to drop a trojan into his computer. Go to the manufacturers website, if there is no bios update i strongly recommend running combofix, adwcleaner, and TDSSkiller. In reverse order.

That's what I gather as well, though he could have some dell or OE bloatware that's keeping track for him hence why I asked.

Yea you shouldn't flash your BIOS unless its absolutely necessary. Even then its risky, you can brick your computer. Like Barn said, run combofix and it should clear things up if it is adware.

I'm inclined to think that it's probably malware since if OP knew enough about computers that he had no choice but to flash the BIOS to (for instance) support a kaveri processor on an fm2+/fm3 motherboard released before the chip came out, he wouldn't be here on the RVF asking questions about it.

How old is your computer? The newer UEFI setup is suppose to protect drivers and hardware a lot better.

Not to derail OP, but I've come to the realization its likely that most of the RvF membership work in technology. Be it software engineering, support, IT, whatever.

Or have nerdy/geeky backgrounds such as myself. That stuff tends to go together.

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
I hope it's a desktop so if you brick your motherboard it's at least an easy fix.

Why do you think you need to reflash your BIOS? I'm sure it needs to be done in some circumstances, but in maintaining a whole pile of computers over the last 20 years it's a problem that's never come up for me.

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
there are few ways to do it
1. from the BIOS it self, you can update the BIOS through USB or floppy
2. boot up to DOS, in the command line, execute the bios update utility by specifying the correct bios filename that is to be flashed.
3. in windows itself, run the bios flashing utility to update it.

so I do not know which method you have tried and doesn't allow you to flash, then you may wanna proceed with other methods listed above.

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
Hi everyone. Just to answer your question, I want to re-flash my BIOS becasue my copy and paste doesn't work well and some refresh rates are missing from my Intel grpahics properties. I had these problems before I clean installed my laptop to Windows 10. Thats why I thought I could clean instll these bugs away. But after I clean installed it, these problems are still there. It seems therefore that the issue resides in the BIOS,

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
Whatever your brand your laptop is, just go to their website and find if they have a BIOS update for your model laptop. Download the package and read the instructions. That's all there is to it!

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
Probably driver issues, actually. If you didn't manually install drivers for your specific laptop (from the laptop manufacturer or chip manufacturer) odds are decent that you're stuck with generic drivers that don't allow the full functionality of your hardware.

There's a long list of things I'd try to fix those problems before I got down to "reflash the BIOS".

RE: Can Someone Help with Reflashing BIOS?
A bios update wont fix these issues, mos likely OP didnt install the drivers when he clean installed windows. Plus depending on the intel processor its been most likely EOL'd and there won't be any forth coming updates. Starting to think this is a troll post, since bios has very little to do it copy and pasting as well as gpe performance unless you have a nvidia or amd card.
