Good stuff, WIA. It got me thinking about a key detail of the OP. They actually finished the movie, and he asked what to watch next.

If the vibe is good going in, I have it in my mind that there is no way we are finishing this movie. Having done some of the things you mention, more often than not, she'll say "we're not going to be able to finish this are we?"

I usually reply that we will, hit pause, and say "let's take a quick break" and immediately escalate. If I have to back off, I hit play again and I go back to the process.

Another thing I do is avoid interesting movies she or I want to see for the first time. I think I've tried to watch Planet Earth on Netflix about 20 times. Still haven't seen it all the way through. Always wait until after the Grizzly or Polar bears, then check her temperature. That's usually as far as we get and the rest is background noise for sex.
