It's likely the hottest social media platform out there. Every major celebrity, athlete, politician, artist, etc. uses it as their main form of online communication with their audience. People read tweets and link to their twitter all over news stations, talk shows, and radio.

Remember when youtube couldnt make a dollar? They were against advertising. Now you gets ads out the ass on youtube. I gonna be leaving twitter. I started noticing various things that showed red flags. Such as I'll be looking at a newer tweet then it would vanish as I'd look at it. Then when I'd go to said tweeter's account there would be nothing there. It could be deleted, sure, but I don't think the person who wrote it had that in mind.

Also it keeps asking me if my email is correct. This happens multiple times. I don't know how bad their infrastructure is that it keeps forgetting, but I think it's something else.

Fuck their site. I'm abandoning ship. I hope it sinks.

Ello positioned itself as an anti-Facebook and made a lot of news stories when it came out. It's pretty dead now, but I could easily see it making a resurgence with the recent problems both Facebook and Twitter have been facing.

They took a strong stance against "harassment" so it may be worth researching the founders before going all in on them. SJWs ruin everything, so we have to make sure that they really are pro-free speech not trying to be tumblr 2.0.

If they have no way of monetizing, this may be a prelude to implementing facebook's system where you pay them to float your spam to the top of the feed. Diaspora is an alternative. Supposed to be an Open Source social network. I was on it a while back. You have to register on a pod. Problem is, I can't remember which pod I registered on. I know Vox Day is working on some non-SJW alternatives, but I don't know what his timeline is.

The problem with alternatives is that they get eaten up by the big dogs as soon as they see a threat and/or a profit.

Facebook bought WhatsApp and before you knew it there was invasion of privacy that I doubt many have yet to realise. Youtube and Google will one day become weaker than they are with alternative media. They're pissing off a lot of people at the moment so father time is all that matters.

I personally don't go on twitter, I don't have Instagram, I only watch youtube videos or play an active role in facebook. I keep facebook for Tinder only.

"If you miss any tweets, *any at all,* there will be just as much good stuff in there as there is in what you actually see. Delivering some of that, by pushing down something else, is *guaranteed* to give you a better experience. Not by principle, just by math." Rosania concluded: "Someday soon, the tweets you see will be a little more interesting, and the tweets you miss won't be as important. And guess what: You won't even notice. You won't! You think you will, but you won't."

"IT TEARS CONVERSATIONS APART."

The Verge spoke to two users who have been testing the new timeline for a few months. Neither particularly liked it. "I started to get used to it but I still think that it is a terrible idea," Twitter user Robin Bonny told me. "It tears conversations apart, and it's really confusing when some people have been live-tweeting an event and those things get scattered all across my timeline. It makes it extremely hard to follow events, and destroys one of the core values of Twitter, in my opinion." Another user, Coady DiBiase, was only slightly more positive. "It's definitely nice in terms of catching up on things I might've missed, but it's a departure from the core idea of Twitter, so overall it complicates things."

But both are daily users of the product, and Twitter is in search of product changes that will bring them hundreds of millions of new users. The analyst Ben Thompson wrote recently that an algorithmic timeline has been one of Facebook's core advantages over Twitter, allowing it continue to grow rapidly as Twitter's growth slowed. As Bret Taylor, former chief technical officer of Facebook, put it this morning: "Algorithmic feed was always the thing people said they didn't want but demonstrated they did via every conceivable metric. It's just better."

Now we know how Twitter's algorithmic timeline works — but aside from those who have been testing it, it's unclear how it will feel. Is it truly the best of Twitter, delivered effortlessly? Or, like Bonny says, does it break up conversations and take other tweets out of context? It does not feel like an overstatement to say Twitter's future could hinge on the answer.

In other words, rather than an orderly stream, Twitter is going to implement Facebook's stupid "Top News". All tweets will appear out of order. You'll see one from 16 hours ago, next from 33 minutes ago, next from last Friday...

I'll probably drop off Twitter at that point. I'm no fan of having to reload 2 or 3 times to get my feed in order. That "While you were away" is annoying.

With Tweets chronological ordered matters. In many ways it is like a story unfolding so it doesn't make sense to have it out of order. They know that if they keep the system the same they will have a harder time censoring people, it would be more obvious. With the new system when they are questioned it is easier to say "well that's the new system for you, think get shifted around" instead of telling the truth that you were censored for an unpopular opinion.

Just from a usability standpoint if they make the change then I am completely done with Twitter. I can't imagine seeing 20 Tweets all out of order and then having to look at the time stamps to figure out the order. That is complete garbage. Then add in the censorship and it is a complete cluster fuck.

Twitter has so much potential to be a hugely profitable company. It offers ad targeting on a level that makes Facebook seem weak and pathetic. Being able to target people based on who they follow should be all it takes to make it the most profitable ad-driven company, save for Google, on the Internet.

Despite this, it continues to bleed money because it's a massively bloated company with no fucking idea what it's doing. How much could it possibly cost to run something like Twitter? It doesn't have a complex algorithm like Google to sort results by quality or relevance or a huge farm of servers to cache search results in full detail -- it's just a fucking newsfeed service for end users.

For example, Twitter has 4,300 employees!!! How could you possibly need 4,300 people to run a website that's just a rip-off of Facebook's timeline feature? If it weren't a public company, Twitter would look like a money laundering scheme designed to take cash from VCs (and now the public) and redistribute it to overpaid, clueless San Francisco tech industry morons.

It amazes me how much Silicon Valley companies will waste on stupid things like "user engagement managers" and "platform exclusivity" when really they could make Twitter profitable in a couple of days by putting skyscraper banner ads on either side of the news feed and hiring some sales reps to get more ad spending from Fortune 500 companies.

I spend a fortune on Adwords and Facebook Ads and Twitter's ad platform is by far the worst platform in the industry. The entire company is run by clueless idiots.

I think Dorsey also mentioned about raising the character limit, that could be a big deal and really change how people use twitter. Perhaps fewer but longer tweets might lead to more clicks on adds. They probably did some excessive a/b testing on those models resulting in exactly that.
