In general in history, the literary output of men has exceeded that of women in quality and quantity.

There are some rare exceptions.

Just like men have historically been better scientists, mathematicians, musicians, cooks, engineers, doctors....you name it.

Oh, I forgot. I'm not supposed to notice this or recognize it. It must be because men "kept them down" for so long. That must be it!

Some women writers have produced great books. I liked Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" and Barbara Tuchman's history books.

But these women were old-school types, the type of traditional woman not really found in the West any more.

I thoroughly enjoyed Madeleine L'engle, when I was 12.

Kathleen O'Neal Gear is the only female writer I can think of that I can recommend. Historical fiction is not everyones cup of tea, but I like that she has a grasp on anthropology and a surprisingly non-PC understanding of Native Americans. No delusions of noble savages from this one. A little bit of feminist ideals in some of her writing, but also some red pill type thoughts on war and sexuality.

I don't read a lot of non-fiction, and all the best stuff was from men. "Quiet" by Susan Cain is good if you are an introvert, and maybe beneficial for some extroverts.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. She's a great storyteller, but I wouldn't say the books are particularly well written. Not that they're badly written or anything. Just my opinion though.

Her writing is pretty basic but what she's good at is children's dialogue and envisioning the world she created. I have to agree she's a literary lightweight though. She's definitely no Tolkien.

Everytime I read Tolkien it's obvious that it's the work of a genius. The complexity is something that really influenced writing itself.

With Rowling I get the sense she's someone who has a good literary mind for writing for kids but she probably pushes her abilities to the limit to put pen to paper.

In college I took several courses with a drama professor who was an award-winning authority on Shakespeare. I also did theater writing for a while in the newspaper biz and interviewed a lot of directors who were staging works by Shakespeare.

This never came up -- even with female directors. Is there truth in this, or are feminist politics leading to the rewriting of history?

I've also noticed now that various writers are claiming that Einstein's wife co-authored his famous paper on relativity and that the girlfriends of the Rolling Stones circa 1968 should be considered "band members" since they influenced/inspired the writing of several songs.

If you can cite a source for a woman penning Shakespeare's works I'll eat my words...but I'm going to send the info to my old professor and see what he has to say.

These are merely conspiracy theories dating back to the 19th-century and discussed in great detail in this Wikipedia article. I’ve yet to meet a single person claiming William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon did not write the works on which his name has been engraved; I doubt your professor gives any thought or consideration to the arguments posed by the anti-Stratfordians.

I find female writers to be subpar by and large. They tend to overemphasize the insignificant details, overlooking the larger truths - much in the same way that they tend to micromanage an office when they are given administrative roles.

I will give a thumbs up to Margaret Mitchell, however. Gone With the Wind is one of the most red pill books ever written by a woman. Mitchell breaks down the devious female psyche to a tee, tearing Scarlett a new asshole along the way.

I don't know how much has been said in the Manosphere about this book, but it deserves some critique. They way Scarlett chews up guy after guy, using their blue pill training against them. But then, she finally meets her match in "Zero Fucks Given" Gable.

I enjoyed this non fiction book from 2003. Spoke to her via email while I was in Colombia, nice girl and good writer.

One of my favourite novels is The Outsiders , written by a seventeen year old girl named S.E Hinton. I can't recall the last non-fiction book I read that was written by a woman though.

Every stage actor and director I have ever met was at least vaguely aware of Shakespeare plagiarism theories. My highschool drama instructor was convinced that Marlowe had written at least 3 of the plays credited to Shakespeare.

I think in general, women's fiction is best in the young adult fiction section. Not a lot of heavier stuff out there.

I liked Hamilton's "Mythology" a lot. In particular the explanation for the abduction (rape is too strong a word in modern times) of Persephone is recorded pretty accurately.
Harry Potter was solid. Pretty good storytelling there.

The "My Side of the Mountain" series was pretty good young adult fiction. JCG basically wrote "Hatchet" twenty or thirty years earlier but with a much lighter tone.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is about as red pill as literature can get. It had a false rape accusation front and center.

Barbara Brooks Wallace has a lot of good YA fiction set in a despairing, poverty-stricken, Victorian England sort of setting.

My point is that the idea is so self-evidently ludicrous it cannot be entertained even for a millisecond. There is no need to consult any "sources" since no such "source" could possibly be more persuasive than the evidence of Shakespeare's text itself.

In other words, it's not merely that these plays were not written by a woman; it's that they could not be.

Jane Meyer of the New Yorker has just published another book. I haven't read it but it looks very interesting and is certainly very timely.

There are exceptions, but in general the reason you've realized that books written by women aren't as good as the ones written by men is simple - women belong in the kitchen making sandwiches.

That's not a joke, some of you may find that sexist but it's true. God created Eve FOR Adam, females were created for the purpose of submitting to man. There are exceptions, I've met some brilliant women and some are tremendous writers, but in general many of them simply aren't very good because they weren't built to be philosophers and writers, they were built to be nurturers and lovers.

That is probably a sweeping generalization. While i'm not a voracious reader, i certainly have enjoyed a couple of books written by our sisters. Titles like "The manipulated man" by Esther Vilar, and "Its our turn to eat" by Michela Wrong i certainly wouldn't consider poorly written.
