Master of the House: Then and Now
I was reading the comments on a Heartiste post and found this:

Quote:Enjoyed this post but it sure failed to underscore the fundamental and pitiless truth about single game vs. married game.
(...)
The grim facts are these.
It is impossible to maintain an impeccable alpha frame as a married man. If you change diapers, run the dishwasher, pick up the kid’s clothes off the floor, run a vacuum occasionally, clean the downstairs bathroom before your guests arrive, etc etc, then you are engaging in behavior that can and will be subconsciously viewed by your wife as feminine and beta. These behaviors become increasingly repulsive to a woman as time goes on, but, paradoxically, she will become volcanically angry and resentful if you don’t do them. YOU CANNOT WIN THIS GAME.
(...)

Which struck me, because I had recently read this in Orwell's Road to Wigan Pier:

Quote:In a working-class home it is the man who is the master and not, as in a middle-class home, the woman or the baby. Practically never, for instance, in a working-class home, will you see the man doing a stroke of the housework. Unemployment has not changed this convention, which on the face of it seems a little unfair. The man is idle from morning to night but the woman is as busy as ever — more so, indeed, because she has to manage with less money. Yet so far as my experience goes the women do not protest. I believe that they, as well as the men, feel that a man would lose his manhood if, merely because he was out of work, he developed into a ‘Mary Ann’.

That was in 1930s England. Amazing how much can change - and not just in women, but in men. The commenter I quoted may as well be from another planet compared to the kind of men Orwell was describing. He thinks these are fundamental truths. He'd do well to pick better truths to believe in.

Something to ponder OP. I shall do so.

In the meantime...

Ha, when I read the thread title and the first sentence in this post I was sure it was going to be about these comments:

Tarl

We white goys are the new Jews — tarred with the ineradicable blood guilt, greedy hoarders of ill-gotten resources, not permitted a homeland, restricted access to higher education and the professions, not permitted to defend ourselves during the periodic pogroms…

Regular John

Its almost like this whole egalitarian thing was a long con and the real motivation was the slave’s desire to exchange places with the master.
