Is this the one where Leonardo DeCaprio may or may not be raped by a bear?

RE: The Revenant Movie
One of the most boring and bland movies that I've seen this year.

RE: The Revenant Movie
I firmly disagree that it's boring. It has pretty great cinematography and is an excellent portrayal of the wild American frontier.

Leo blows it away with his performance too. It's about man and survival and without spoiling too much it's a damn good revenge flick. A few red pill concepts there too about not giving in when things look absolutely hopeless.

RE: The Revenant Movie
What the fuck...seems like this movie is not being released in China, and neither is In the Heart of the Sea, which were the two movies I was actually looking forward to this year. On the other hand, The Menstruation Awakens with her gay black best friend is of course showing Dodgy

I'm honestly debating whether or not to move my jaunt to Japan or SK up the schedule just to see those movies. Anyone know whether movies in those countries tend to be subbed, or dubbed?

RE: The Revenant Movie
It's 2.5hrs with very little dialogue so it feels like 3hrs. Amazing cinematography and great acting by Leo as usual. Story was decent. I feel they could have edited this down to 90 minutes and lost nothing in the way of story and delivered a superior movie.

I'd give it 3/5 stars

Hint: A Oscar Screener was leaked and can be found in the usual places.
Leo was not raped by a bear, it's a female bear the attacks him because cubs are passing by.

I suggest you watch it. It's pretty good. Some shots are amazing, like super long scenes with no cuts.

Nope the Bear Rape was probably just sensationalism. The director of the movie denied the fact:

We all know some actor starring in a shitty movie will beat him to the punch at the Oscars.

I'm looking forward to this.. When a director is able to utilize and execute a tracking shot well, it really draws in and engages the audience.

True Detective pulled this off in a phenomenal 6 minute tracking shot.

RE: The Revenant Movie
So a hunter goes out bear hunting one day, and gets raped by the bear.

All pissed off about it, he goes and buys a machine gun, and goes off hunting for the bear that raped him again. The bear sneaks up on him and rapes him before he can turn around.

So then the hunter goes and buys a rocket launcher, heads back out to the woods, when he feels a tap on his shoulder.

Bear: "You're really not here for the hunting, are you?"

Aesop: when you see repeated failure, you have to question if the failure isn't actually the goal.

Saw it. It was good.

Aside from the bear attack (they couldn't use an actual bear to film the scene), there doesn't seem to be much computer work done at all. It gives a great sense of realism to the whole thing.

During that time, men were men, you had to literally fight the world and other men just to eke out a living. How many people today would survive those times?

That trailer looks like a damn good film. Long, slow scenes with little added effects is also something I value. Will check it out, thanks.

I actually thought about this myself a lot lately. With things going the way they are, a lot of public unrest worldwide either already happening or about to come, maybe we will enter similar times again (sometimes I hope for it - which I'll probably regret if it actually happens). And I wondered whether today's men would still be able to survive. Most sure don't seem like it. But our bodies are largely still the same, maybe a little lower test in general, but overall still the same. So actually the only big difference is the mindset, which can change pretty quickly. Men back then were much more manly and brave, yes, but they also had to be. I guess (hope) that out of the necessity, a lot of people would learn to cope pretty quickly. If it's swim or drown, even in the fat beta hipster a basic instinct will probably kick in and set him in survival mode. He'll be able to mobilize energy and resources he never knew he had. Probably a lot of people would discover sides of themselves they newer knew before.

I watched it two days ago and have to say I enjoyed it a lot, it's beautifully shot and there are some jaw-dropping scenes in it but I can understand how some people might find it boring.

RE: The Revenant Movie
I saw it today on the big screen.

This was fantastic. I was floored.

This is the most masculine movie I've seen in a long, long time. It's a smashingly good tale of courage, suffering, survival, betrayal, and revenge.

This is the screenplay that H. Rider Haggard or Alexandre Dumas would have written if they were alive today.

And, to cap it all off, and what really moved me as well, it has very definite mystical overtones, which seem to suggest man's insignificance in the great drama of Nature and her designs.

This is the movie that men should be seeing...not the insipid claptrap of "Star Wars" or "Mad Max."

I'm going to do a full review for my ROK article on Monday.

How much of this is a remake of "A Man Called Horse"?
edit; Turns out it's playing at the 1 screen cheapo theatre in town, if weather is shitty tomorrow I'll go catch the matinee.

RE: The Revenant Movie
I still need some clarification. Does Leo give the bear explicit verbal consent at each additional stage of escalation?

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

That's the sort of bearphobic comment that is highly problematic. Everyone knows that bears are POC and therefore cannot rape a patriarchal white oppressor like Leo. Plus the bear was a strong, independant woman, so misogyny. He should have checked his privilege before trespassing on stolen land. #bearlivesmatter

Went into this having never seen the trailer or ever heard of it (didn't even know Leo was in it going in, truly fresh introduction).

Was boring for the first 10 minutes until he got mauled by the bear, then it all changed, it ended up being one of the sickest movies I've seen all year.

Whatever you think of Tom Hardy you have to admit he's a hell of an actor too. Didn't recognize him initially when I saw it and was surprised he carried off that thick accent so well. I don't think i've ever seen him give a weak performance.

Does it beat "Jerimiah Johnson" or "Seraphim Falls"?

I'm definitely intrigued.
