It's one thing for folks to see you performing your job as an athlete in your natural habitat

There is a "safe" distance in the arena, and a built-in buffer between players and those who wish to do them harm.

Once you step into the arena of the common man; strip club/nightclub/after party things become less orchestrated and there's more of a chance you will get touched.

It's one thing to show up on the humble in an attempt to blend in, but once you come through shinin' it's almost like a slap in the face to the cats who ain't living like that.

MDP, do you think it would happen in gun carry states like Florida or Texas? I know that Udonis Haslem always walks with his piece..I wonder if he, Stephen Jackson (Texas bred) would receive the same treatment?

Maybe he set himself up... his game is weak, he is on his way out of the league. He spent all his money on bling and chains. Maybe he had some kind of insurance policy on the chains. Maybe he had some kind of insurance policy on himself in case of a career ending injury. Maybe its maybelline.

Good point, when there's at least the threat of counter-attack or resistance would-be assailants will have to at the very least think twice.

Criminals look for easy a vic, the more complicated the robbery the more risk involved.

The goal is to minimize risk, and maximize the chances of a clean heist

I just can't understand why these guys still fuck with hoodrats and the "urban" crowd despite having the money and fame not to.
They could easily party at some high end club in Hollywood or Vegas where shady characters, haters and crime are rare.

These guys need to go to the Derek Jeter school for Dating. Jeter spent 20 years banging poon left and right in New York but never got caught up in any controversy or baby mama drama. He doesn't even mess with hoodrats.

On top of that, Jeter has been known to only go out to upscale spots where people with money hang out, not skanky CityScape or Scores.

Cops aren't idiots. This is high profile and they'll likely be all over the girl, the uber driver their phone records, the club's surveillence footage etc etc.

Reminds me of Paul Pierce who got jumped by Benzino and his crew in Boston. After hospitalisation, he emerged to be a HOF small forward. Sometimes that is like a plug in the butt, this Cleanthony could turn out to be a future sixth man of the year.

This could happen in any state. Roll through Oakcliff (Dallas) area clubs shining like that? You actually asking to die. They rarely wound people because they know people can actually carry guns. I remember a popular high school basketball coach got killed for 2 dollars in that hood. It was on the First 48 too. The killers said they needed money for baby pampers....

Don't get me wrong, concealed carry helps, but if you do something so stupid to the point you get ambushed by several guns, by being in the wrong place, all bets are off at that point. Car jackings are much harder to defend against than being on the street on your feet. You cannot really take cover because you are sitting in a car. 2 guys with pistols, make it even tougher, especially if you have others in the car with you.

I would like to see what someone like Louis Awerbuck would do in a situation like that. At a minimum, you would have to actually open your car door first (crack the door open), take cover + 2 shots while using the door as a shield at attacker #1. Either one to his knee then 1 to his center mass or just 2 at center mass if you can see it fully (depending upon the angle the car is at). Then you would possibly prepare for return fire from attacker #2, so you would have to a some point come from cover or shoot once from blind at his position if he is just standing there. If he is advancing, you would have to rise and draw tight, making the shots count. I doubt the others would pick up the #1 attackers pistol to join the fray but if they did, you would have to deal with them too. It would have been an ugly firefight situation nevertheless. A highly trained CQC guy (someone like Louis) or a special forces person could possibly kill 3 of them within seconds but a large basketball player would have to train in CQC alot to get that nimble for firefights and of course become a crackshot with shot placement.

True, and it should it be noted that Paul was fully expected to be that type of player after a stellar career at Kansas, where he was a top 10 pick. Cleanthony, doesn't have that potential obviously, but projected as a solid rotational player out of the draft with the skillset to be a Cliff Robinson type player down the line. Wouldn't surprise me if he reached that level, and Cliff was no slouch in his prime.

Funny that you mention South Oak Cliff since it is also a perennial high school basketball powerhouse in the state of Texas and has produced notable NBA names like Tony Battie, Darrell Arthur, Dennis Rodman. That greater Dallas area also happens to an absolute basketball goldmine for NCAA and NBA talent alike with Lamarcus Aldridge being the most notable name in recent years.
