Fintech or finance in the tech space is my tip to generate huge investment returns in 2016. This emerging sector is not very well known at the moment but this time next year I will bet it's front page of the business papers material. Traditional retail banks will go the same way as taxis, hotels and the rest. See the emergence of transferwise this year in particular which stops the rort of trapped customers partaking in international funds transfer.

I have stocks to watch in this space in London. I know the ASX is also primed to take ownership of some big movers. Don't know the U.S. markets as well but the game will be played there too.

What are some stocks in the fintech niche? Want to see what this is all about and research them, currently don't have a clue about what it really is..

+1 for Transferwise(its owned and started by Estonians ) but as far as retail banks going, why should they? Do you mean that for example some big Scandinavian bank will close their phsyical officies and go fully online or some new startup will come and force the 100 old bank out of business because they can do things more effectively? I can see that happening but not in one year, building these big banking back end system will take years.

Maybe it will be that there will be more niche startups like Transferwise which focus on some particular service like payments, factoring invoices etc? But one big general bank offers lot of services in the back end, its not just office where you can open account and withdraw money.

Exactly. And hotels and taxis are still around.

Fintech won't explode in 2016 but rather will keep growing as brick and mortar banks and ATM's continue to disappear. I only know of 2 businesses that went full fintech using Square for all transactions.

Square was way late on the IPO should of come years ago
