Speaking of Hitler... If you watch all 10 episodes, at the end you will almost started rooting for Hitler... this tv series is a mindfuck.

You should see the way the tv series celebrate, romanticized, and espouse beautiful traditional family values through nazi principles... like i said, this tv series is solid stuff and a mindfuck.

It completely defies simplification and lazy categorization i have seen on this thread.

I still like the concept of the show and I'll continue to watch, I never watched tv series but this one definitely caught my attention.

WIA I heard the book is quite a bit different than the book, I'l have to check it out.

I downloaded the audio book, I only listed to it for a bit. "The Man in the High Castle" has an excellent premise and I heard Phillip K Dick is brilliant. I think I'll read the book and then watch the series, just like I did with LOTR.

I've come to a realization that my anger at his words were wrong.

Men should come to debate each other with a clear head, mine was clouded.

Anyways I lied to myself and watched 4 episodes (about to watch 5)


The nazi boss (one of the main charachters) - when he was at the table for breakfast with his family.

It was a great nuclear family with strict roles, especially the son's discussion regarding a hippie in his class questioning everything.

The comparison of focusing outwards to your nations versus inwards was a great lecture.

The nazi agent working for the boss has bits of game he spits at the chick with the film.

End of Episode 4 - shit might hit the fan !

Not Nazis per se, but Off the top of my head -- Das Boot, Der Untergang (The Downfall), Napola, Stauffenberg, Valkyrie and Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (Our Mother, Our Fathers, US title: Generation War) do show the humanity in the German people during WW2.

I am really enjoying the show - on episode 6 right now. If you like TMITHC, I highly recommend a mockumentary called CSA that was released around 2005 that brilliantly and with dark humor shows a present day world where the South conquers the North during the Civil War.

Hopefully if the show succeeds it will lead the entertainment industry to make other alternative histories like TMITHC and CSA.

Just 3 that I would love to see:

1. Present day in which the United States lost the Cold War to the Soviet Union sometime in the 90s. You could have a "flipped script" in which the US never recovers from the Vietnam War and Oil Crisis and slowly falls apart economically and militarily like the Soviet Union did in the 80s with the Afghan invasion and decline in oil prices. The Soviet Union is now the world's sole super power and the US has a military and economic status similar to present day Russia's. Instead of most of Europe being under NATO and the EU, it's under the Warsaw Pact and Comecon. Britain holds out in the same way Yugoslavia did during the cold war due to it being an island and having nukes, but just barely and had a massive civil war between England, Scotland, North Ireland, and Wales similar to Yugoslavia's. Instead of countries around the world generally moving toward free markets, they move generally towards communism with varying degrees. Technology has barely moved since the late 70s, and most of the IT revolution never occurred making everyday life much more analog than it is today.

2. The West loses the War on Terror. Most of the world under Sharia Law. I do not have any ideas on how to make it convincing.

3. Turn Henry Turtledove's "Guns of the South" into a movie or series, where the CSA wins the American Civil War.

I saw it and was not all that impressed with it. The sets and costume were awesome, the alternate history world seemed airtight, the women are pretty hot (a little old though) but the characters are not very compelling, the plot is irritatingly opaque, and the object of interest in the script (the films) are pretty lame and gay. Some spoilers ahead.

Why does Hitler want them? Why does the man in the high castle make and distribute them, only to demand them back via the "Resistance" on the condition nobody watches them and nobody asks or answers questions about their importance? Clearly these films are from "our world" but when are they going to do the big reveal and show something to explain all this shit away like an alternate universe portal? Did the old Japanese guy at the end die? Is the greater message of the series a narcissistic affirmation of the subversive power of art? 7/10 series, great cast and world building, would not bother to rewatch without reading the book.

Lets be honest here. If the Nazi'd did win WW2 a few American cities would be like Fallout and the UK as well. Guys like them wouldn't have held back and the un-telling power of nuclear weapons and atomic energy would be like crack to them. Japan would be long gone.

I finished the series over Thanksgiving.

That exactly what I got out of it - I was kind of cheering for Hitler at the end. I was also cheering for Smith.

Joe's kind of in a fucked place and so is Frank's friend Ed, poor bastard took the fall for his best friend.

I just wonder why the last film was different - how could of someone made that ?

What was up with Tagomi meditating into an American SF ? Did he kill himself or was he really just imagining what America would be like ?

Overall I enjoyed the series, I'd like to see another season of it.

I kind of hate it didn't have any finalized conclusion - but they left it open for an additional series.

I think Tagomi simply went to an alternate (our) timeline; it's highly suggestive he has done it before.

1. He is VERY adamant about peace (cause he has seen it in the alternate timeline)

2. His assistant is from Nagasaki and has burn marks on his forearm; which strongly suggests that the assistant was in our timeline during the atomic bombing but has followed Togomi back somehow to the show's main timeline. Moving objects or things between timelines seems to be possible given the tapes existence.

My guess is that Hitler found a way to send information back to himself (the tapes) and therefore, is always able to stay two steps ahead of everyone and always choose the correct path (it why he has a mass collection of tapes; it's every possible timeline outcome). How this is done exactly is obviously unknown and is the real mystery.

It also suggested that Jules possess the time-travel gene; Tagomi fiddling with the heart jewelry frequently and Jules "feeling" about Joe at the end indicate this.

Still a lot of gaps to fill but I like the show. The acting of the main leads (Joe and Jules) could be a better, the show could have better pacing, but it's an interesting show.

Very awesome show. Ashamed to admit I was actually rooting for Hitler at the end. They did a great job making the Nazi's real people some of whom were very conflicted, rather than stereotype everyone.

So I'd guess Hitler has set up a system to ensure all films get sent to him. The films come from the parallel timeline and people like the Trade Minister can go back and forth between timelines, bringing things with them (like films). By creating a "resistance" that places undue importance in films, Hitler is able to stay ahead of the game like TheBlackKnight suggests.

In the second season, the Trade Minister maybe bring back some goodies or knowledge that has huge ramifications in the current timeline.

Smith's son being sick is going to affect Smith's decision making. I'll bet he starts questioning the Reich in the Second Season.

I feel like we saw Frank change from a sort of bitchy beta to not quit an Alpha but he's getting there.

It's telling that Hitler wants the films for his own personal viewing, instead of for censorship. He wants them for personal viewing, not because they are rebellious. He is watching a film when we finally see him, and we get to see his extensive, prominently displayed collection.

After seeing a film, I would assume a normal person would become obsessed with discovering how the film was made, or who the film came from; not an obsession with possessing more and more of them. The size of his collection seems to be telling. Maybe he knows something that excludes him from pursuing the source, and he is relegated to simply watching the films, over and over, in futlity. Or maybe he hasn't become enlightened enough like Tagomi.

The closest you'll get to this is Dan Simmons' novel Flashback, a.k.a. the novel that turned him from visionary darling of science fiction and genre master into Bigoted Rightwing Reactionary Republican™.

For a short version, Google his story The Time Traveller. Written in 2006, it's still up on his website for free.

"Screamers" with Peter Weller was a P. K. Dick story as well, also "Impostor" with Gary Sinise, "Paycheck" with Ben Affleck,
There was also the "Total Recall 2070" tv series from the 90's based off parts of different stories, but don't watch it, it sucked.
There's more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head right now.

What story is 'Radio Free Albemuth' from? The Adjustment Burea was 'Adjustment Team', Screamers was 'Second Variety', 'Total Recall was 'We'll Remember it for you wholesale' -I think, and Blade Runner was 'Do Androids dream of sheep'.

In the book, Hitler is already dead, so if in the show the man in the high castle is indeed Hitler, that is something the show writers changed. My impression fron watching the show was that the man was Hitler though. Interesting how next season plays out, since they have exhausted most book material I believe. . . hopefully the quality doesn't drop too far.
