You're right, I forgot to include the dividend reinvestment. It still ignores potential taxes along the way and ends up at 3.8B but his initial inheritance was in a range that makes your point very well. It's an interesting perspective that Trump has basically just ridden the market with his initial inheritance.

Your argument is that Trump should have taken his money and thrown it into index funds, which would have appreciated over time and got him the same net worth. That is something that no one on earth would do, not even Buffett or anyone in the money management business.
