I took an officially administered IQ test when I was 13. It was 119. I'm quite sure it's still around there although I like to round to 120 just for my OCD's sake.

I had a couple of attempts but kept getting dragged away until time ran out. Got a score of 130 with about 3/4 of the questions done.

This test is very focused on visual and spatial questions, which is what I'm strong at. I'd expect one focused on maths to provided a much lower score.


Steve Sailer just published a post talking about how the Flynn Effect (scores increasing over time) applies much more strongly to Raven's Progressive Matrices than to other testing styles

Indulge me if you would. Glenn Gould was considered a genius. Can anyone weigh in on why he was considered a genius? Here he is talking about Bach. His speaking ability is above normal, his playing is perfect, but, does this make him a genius?

Got a 106 which appears to be the lowest score reported in the thread. Not surprised, I scored in the high 500s low 600s for the math portiob of the SATs back in high school so this sort of reasoning is definitely not my forte.

A few years ago, when I had a LOT of time to waste (and before the official one), I googled "IQ test" and did all of them. Results ranged from 95 to 172. That's a huge margin.

Better get a Wescheler or Stanford-Binet test (administered by a PhD) if you want an official result.

When I was a kid in fourth grade, I took something like this that put me into a gifted kids class, and the only result was that other kids, who I considered as smart as me or smarter, made up on the fly I.Q. quizzes to give me, find me lacking, and ask why I was in the gifted kids class and not them.

I had no answers, because I never asked to take the tests, or asked to go into special classes.

Now I'm an oldster, and I started to take this test, and after 4 questions couldn't be bothered, so clearly now I am a retard.

I work with all IQ brackets. Over 135 and people can over rev and go nuts. Under 90 and they cant do normal shit without an ass beating ever hour on the hour.

One way to up the IQ is to read mountains of books. Be a voracious reader.

^ I'm a big reader and I'm skeptical of how much it would improve your IQ when it comes to these sort of abstract mathematical/logical tests. I do think it makes you more intelligent but it has more to do with having a bigger reserve of information to draw on and the connections and inferences you draw between the ideas that you constantly get exposed to. It doesn't to much to boost your raw mental processing abilities.

It's kinda like training martial arts. Some people will simply always be stronger and more athletic and you can't really do much to bypass your hard physical limits but you can always sharpen your technique. The bigger, stronger guy will always have an advantage over you but you can through will and work try to match him by learning how to move and execute techniques better then him. I'm sure you high IQ people can also see the connection between all of this and naturals vs. game as well.

Are you in very high earning fields, or fields that require knowledge that most people couldn't really handle? Math, science, economics, finance etc.?

What is the life of a 130 IQ guy like?

I honestly always thought I was high IQ and was basically underperforming, but I guess I'm not really and I'm doing OK for my IQ level. I then have to assume you guys who are a standard deviation or more above me must be killing it.

My first post. I was breezing through the first 20 and thought I'd finish way before the 40 minutes, but the last 10 or so just started getting weird. I guessed the last 2 or 3. Im 23 years old in college and a senior studying engineering if that matters.

Hey guys, took the test twice. First time I got 106 but somehow the second result was 133. That's a huge divergence, even if I did rush through the first time.

I would guess my iq closer to the 133 side as I got 145 back as an 8 year old (also went to the top high school in my city, beating out 30k other kids on a SAT style test). My peers would've all done well on this one.

But who knows or cares right?

I use the word "intelligence" to mean mental horsepower. In a sense, it's how far you can push your mind.

For example, I imagine that people with higher IQs tend to be better at chess. You aren't allowed to play out the possibilities on the board, so you're forced to manipulate the board in your mind. This task is similar to the puzzles found in IQ tests.

You can increase mental horsepower to a certain extent through mental exercise, but I do believe that everyone has a genetic limit.

High IQ can be a big advantage in today's knowledge economy, but it comes with its downsides. Examples include higher chance of depression and other mental inbalances, loneliness because you inherently see the world differently from the vast majority of people, blunted risk-seeking from understanding probability and risk too clearly, and plenty of others.

You could compare it to height - there's a sweet spot. 6'3" rocks, but fuck being 5'0" or 7'0".

This test is going to favour some people over others depending on whether you've done this kind of geometrical stuff in your daily life.

I did the test drunk and got 108, then did it again now and got 128 which I think is too high.

I think I'm more around the 110-115 mark, and it's only because I've done a few years with 3D modeling, image processing and computer design programs that I recognise patterns easier.

If it was one of those tests that has numerical patterns, or wordy type math problems I would have an IQ of about 35.

I did another run through which took 3 minutes, where I skipped all of the ones I skipped on the first try and kept most of the others the same, but changed 2 that I had an "aha!" moment for in between tries. That bumped it up to 124.

Just having a second try will give you a big boost in score, even if all you're doing is remembering a couple "on the edge" problems and re-attempting only those.

I refuse to believe that a forum full of shitlords is actually filled with people who are either smart or geniuses!

Seriously though, no one should take these tests seriously. It's fun and a good indicator of how you handle formal logic and pattern recognition, etc. But certain people from certain backgrounds have a higher advantage taking these; it's not even a near-perfect indication of general intellectual capacity.

I think I've tried this before, some of them seem familiar, I'm probably around 125 without having tried. Did have 15 minutes to spare.

I have noticed often that it seems like IQ mostly shows itself in speed. When I've met some genius level people their mental speed is astonishing.
