I travelled to Vietnam twice this year, in February (during Tet holiday) and again in April, so this memoir is way overdue, but I wanted to give back to the community that has given me so much. Not only this, but there are some valuable lessons to be gained here, as you’ll read below.

Vietnam was on my radar for a while, and considering I’d travelled to the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia late last year, it seemed like the natural choice for my next SEA adventure.

As chance would have it, I met an interesting Vietnamese woman through Wechat in early February. She was in Australia on business, and in my city for a couple of nights only. You can read about that encounter here.

We kept in contact, and I suggested that I meet up with her in Vietnam during the upcoming Tet holiday. She was keen to host me. We made plans to stay in Saigon for a few nights (where she lives) and then fly to Nha Trang for 5 nights. This trip came at a poignant time too, as I’d just recently reached debt-free status after divorcing a couple of years prior.

I touched down in Saigon, grabbed my luggage and headed to the pick-up point. I walked past a Mercedes-Benz S500, and thought to myself, that’s a nice car. I was then pleasantly surprised when I heard my name being called from the car. I jumped in, and we drove to her apartment at Saigon Pearl, which is located on the fringe of District 1, near the Saigon River.

This is the view from the apartment. Nothing special, but you can see that the air quality is half decent (compared to other SEA countries), and that it’s not too built up.

   

As soon as we arrived, I put my luggage down and got to work preparing the bedroom. Given our first encounter, I thought it best to be prepared for the ever-gushing geyser, and after some research, picked up this all important item:

   

Once on, it was time to test it out. She squirted like a champ, and there was no worry whatsoever as the mattress protector did its job. To make this reunion extra special, I took her anal virginity. I signalled that I would pull out to blow, but she was insistent on me cumming inside her ass. I complied, balls deep. It was certainly a memorable touch down.

   

Her maid was away for the holiday with her family, who would typically prepare meals. I was therefore a little bit sceptical of her cooking skills when she mentioned that she’d cook dinner. I shouldn’t have been, she made the most delicious seafood noodle dish that I’d ever eaten. So flavourful.
The next few days as you could imagine were sex fuelled and incredibly satisfying on a culinary level, as I’m quite partial to the cuisine.

One of the highlights was a Japanese restaurant (name escapes me). Great food, great Sake, and an incredible view too:

   
   

Next destination was Nha Trang.

   

Nha Trang is a beachside city which is approximately 45 minutes’ flight from Saigon. You’ll encounter a lot of Russian tourists here, so much so, that they’re catered for in regard to street signage and restaurant menus. It has quite a lengthy esplanade, which is where we stayed, at Nha Trang Center apartments. One of her business contacts owns the apartment, so we were lucky enough to have use of it. The apartment itself was pretty impressive, as were the views.

I had the best seafood experience in Nha Trang at Gió Biển. It’s where all the locals went to, and had those small blue plastic kids chairs, so I felt a bit awkward being 6’4” trying to sit comfortably in one. Seating aside, if you’re a seafood lover, or even on the fence, coming here is an absolute must. We loved it so much, that we were here every second night. It’s not only the seafood that is great, but also the interesting spices that you dip the meat into.

The seafood is live, and you just pick what you want. You can stuff yourself here and not expect to pay more than $30AUD per head (including drinks).

   
   
   

Another highlight were the mud baths. Soak in the mud bath, then graduate to a mineral bath, then sit under a waterfall, and finish off with a massage.

We also went on a day cruise on a boat, where you stop off and do some snorkling, scuba diving, and also have some fresh seafood (didn’t compare to Gió Biển though). All in all, pretty entertaining little cruise.

The honeymoon was over, and it was time to head back to Saigon, then back to Australia.

We’d gotten quite close during our time together, and the lust had taken a hold on us both. We were now making plans to be together. Due to her business, she would be able to set up relatively easily in Australia and run it from both sides. She saw her lawyer about the immigration process, and I completed all the necessary documentation for her to enter the country under a spouse visa.

Then something weird happened.

The plan was for me to go back to Vietnam for two weeks in April, then she would fly back with me to Australia for another two weeks to see how life was over here – a trial of sorts.

About a week before I departed for Saigon, I got a message from her, that went like this:

Her: “Honey, can you get me 5 to 10 bottles of Victoria’s Secret bombshell lotion.”
Me: “If I have room in my luggage.” (Didn’t want to be seen as a provider)
Her: “If you can’t get me this simple thing, then it means that you don’t really have any feelings for me. I think we need more time before making a decision to settle down together.”
Me: “I was just joking around, of course I’ll get it” (Stupidly fell into her frame, and just wanted her to calm down).

No response from her, and she even blocked me on Whatsapp for a while.

After not being able to reach her for video calls (which we would do daily), I was now seriously considering cancelling my trip altogether. I went ahead with it however, still not knowing if she’d even want to see me when I arrived. During a layover in KL, I finally got through to her. She confirmed that she’d be at the airport to pick me up. After an incredibly anxious few days, a massive wave of relief washed over me.

She greeted me warmly, which surprised me a bit given her recent behaviour. Whilst her driver took us to her apartment, she casually mentioned that she wouldn’t be able to come back to Australia with me due to “work commitments”. I saw straight through this lie, as there was another national holiday coming up in April. I didn’t really react though, and said that it wouldn’t be a problem.

This news, her bullshit in the lead-up to the trip, and her aggressive behaviour at times toward me, began to eat away at me. Within 2 days, things had irretrievably broken down between us. You could cut the air with a knife. I booked into an Airbnb apartment which she drove me to. As she dropped me off, she said that she would come by that night to see me. I never saw her again.

I had some study to do over the next few days. As difficult as it was, I tried to keep a clear head, and locked myself away in this shitty Airbnb apartment, poring over my textbooks. I would intermittently check Wechat to pipeline chicks, just so I had some light at the end of the tunnel.

When I finished my study, I decided to upgrade my apartment as well. I found a great studio apartment in District 1, for a decent price (Christina’s Saigon). I was able to have chicks over without a problem, and the beds there are incredibly comfortable, which isn’t easy to find in SEA.

My first new notch was this nice little slutty 18 y/o via Wechat.

I happened to bump into her again randomly at Lush on ladies’ night, where I met up with fellow forum member Antipodean by the way.

Lush was probably half Westerners, half locals. The sets that I did open fell into two camps:

1 - “I don’t speak English” (probably code for I don’t want to be seen talking to you).

2 - Overly friendly, and ended up being hookers.

I was making headway with one chick however who seemed DTF, but then she abruptly retreated saying that she had to go back to her friend (which I got the impression that she didn’t want me to come with her).
So, no pulling at Lush for me that night.

Another Wechat encounter here, which has since turned me into a boob man.

Vietnam Cupid encounter here.

I ended up going on 3 dates this chick that I didn’t end up banging, but she was worth putting in the effort for as she had a very unique look for Vietnamese, and not to mention, a great body.

   

We first met at the Saigon Soul Pool Party. I highly recommend checking this event out. A mix of westerners and locals, and decent chilled out electronic music.

To sum up, not a whole heap of clams slammed, but a lot of lessons learned.

Next destination - Bali, tomorrow.

I certainly agree with what you said about the night clubs. I went to Lush recently with a fellow RVF member and it was dead, so we tried Apocalypse. Tons of pros. I thought I saw 2 non pros and ended up pulling one back to my place. I was dead wrong! The moment we walked in my place, she ended up asking me for cash.

I've been hesitant to head over to Vietnam since I need an abundance of activities (scuba diving, running, cycling, waterfalls) when I hit up a destination...not sure if Vietnam has great or safe roads for cycling or nice dive spots.

Seems it may not be bad to check out this country for a short stay.

They may have not good road conditions for cycling but you will definitely increase your cycling skills over there

Driving in Vietnam is not as bad as it looks, once your comfortable with the basics of how things work. Observation is enough to give you the basics.

Everything that happens to you seems to make sense as it happens believe it or not. You are responsible for everything that happens in front of you. If you can't see it, don't worry about it. With everyone working on that premise, it suddenly makes sense. I can't tell you the last time I've looked in a rearview mirror. A quick glance out the peripheral is enough.

Disclosure: I own a motorbike and ride to and from work everyday in Vietnam.

Seconded, and not trying to derail this thread so I will keep it brief:

If you've never driven here before, that gif looks like some hellish nightmare. To me that looks like a properly flowing intersection.

You accelerate when you can, stop to let bigger and faster vehicles have the right of way, relax, and above all else don't hit anything in front of you.

The best way to get over the traffic here?

Have someone drop you off to buy a bike. After everything checks out and seems to work properly, tell them to leave you alone. Drive yourself home. Congrats, now you know how to drive a bike in Vietnam.

Also last time I was out near Cambodia, I ran into an older Dutch couple who had been cycling around southern Vietnam for weeks. They had just finished a long trip from Saigon to the Cambodian border. If two 60 year-olds can pedal their fat asses all over the lower Mekong, you should be fine. The views once you leave the city are really breathtaking, and I don't say that lightly. I do have a hard-on for rice fields so take that with a grain of salt I guess.

I agree, it really is not that bad to drive and driving a motorbike in Asia is great fun. I just got back from a second stay in Vietnam and there are people everywhere driving for the first time. I met a bunch of Dutch guys who bought a few bikes via craigslist. They were doing a north to south trip. Driving in Vietnam and other countries in Asia (the North of Thailand with the Mae Hong Son loop or the Golden Triangle) is amazing. And I don't even have a license back home

Agreed SweetPea, it's best to learn by being left alone.

I felt much better once I turned the corner from the guy I bought my bike from admitting it was my first time.

Once you're on your own, you are nothing different than any other nameless person driving next to you. The anonymity gives an opportunity for confidence.

Yes, best policy is to be upfront early on and ask "are you working tonight?" If you feel the need to ask that question, there's a good chance that your gut instincts are right, and they'll hit you up with their rate, at which point you bid them farewell.

In my Philippines datasheet, I detailed the unfortunate situation I encountered on my first night there. Did my due diligence, was reassured that she wasn't a pro, only to be hit up with a story in the morning about a "long ride home" and needing taxi money (the amount requested was ridiculously exorbitant). Yeah, right.
