Burner phones/apps
I've seen a few ads for the "Burner" app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...gwTA-4-wDA

Wondering if anyone has any feedback on this, or is it better to just get a prepay burner ?

The app looks like it could be good as far as only carrying one phone, but not sure how tied it might be to the original phone.

Given how many of your personal details are transmitted when you download an app from the app store/google, and given that most apps ask in their disclaimer that you accept them collecting personal data, it seems self defeating - so much so that it's actually a pretty funny idea. If all you want is something that lets you give a fake number to chicks you hookup with, then sure, I guess, so long as you're not planning on doing anything particularly nefarious.

If you have some more involved scheme in mind, clearly cash purchases conducted on your behalf by someone who can't be connected to you and doesn't know you/where to find you (many of these stores have cctv cameras behind the counter) are infinitely preferable. Obviously the phone should be prepaid and disposed of once your credit has expired. It should also never be used to contact anyone unrelated to the intended purpose of the burner phone. EG, plenty of people get incriminated because they call their mothers, wives, etc on burner phones that they otherwise use for business. People with significant resource that suspect you and are looking for proof can then create an evidence trail from 3rd party fixed numbers.

^^

It's primary use would be for ONS and the like. Nothing nefarious.
With the personal data, now that I think about it, a couple of smashes (through my real profiles) ended up on my real Facebook feeds as "people you may know".

Yeah, I can see going the prepay route better.

RE: Burner phones/apps
I just use a Google Voice number created under a random Google account.
Then I use the Hangouts app for iOS or Android. Calls/texts over data. Real easy.

All free.

I just set up Google Voice, and have myself a phantom phone number. Step 1 complete.

I can't figure out how (or why) when I send a text to that number, it goes to the gmail account.
I'd like to set it up so that it goes to text.

I'm not very tech-savvy, any tips on how to do this would be appreciated.

I have used Burner before for certain things. As far as app design and function goes its great. I don't fully trust them on being secure but they do say they delete all data when you 'burn' the number.

For low level stuff like texting a girl it should be fine. For something more heavy it might not be the best.

1. Download the Hangouts app for iOS or Android.
2. Log in with that Gmail account associated with your new Google Voice #.
3. You should now see everything sent to your # come in as a message to the Hangouts app.
4. Adjust notifications and general settings appropriately to your liking.
5. Slay

RE: Burner phones/apps
H1N1 is right. While using these apps for a ONS is pretty innocuous, the amount of data already linked to you from your Google/Apple account on your smartphone means the lines between any account, number, or profile will be blurred. I wouldn't expect a ONS to dig deep enough to try and expose you or anything but the work, in my cases, will already be done for them. Like you mentioned, Facebook can suggest each other to you. These social media giants are smart. See this thread: /thread-48096.html

Best way to keep a ONS or anyone else at a distance is to buy a prepaid dumbphone. Costs more, but it's safer. If you insist on using a smartphone, don't login into your personal accounts. A phone like this costs $30.

RE: Burner phones/apps
I think this has been covered before in a previous thread

For myself i go with a pay as you go sim.
I put a cheap texting only plan on it and a bit extra for short calls.
Normally i keep the the number for a month or so then just flush the sim down the toilet.

I use Tor to setup the pay as you go account online. I NEVER set it up in the store. I ALWAYS pay in cash at a busy mall on a weekend.

I have a unlocked older iPhone that put the sim in. I use this phone exclusively for gaming girls that i don't want to stick around. Online, day game, night game etc.
If they turn out to be pretty awesome and worth keeping around in a LTR capacity I'll give them my real number saying i changed my number because of a crazy ex.
