Having lived in both, I say this thread sums it up nicely.

You've got Phnom Penh which is a bit of a lawless ghetto, with a much smaller range of potential experiences than Bangkok. It's also way more manageable in some ways. Then there's BKK which is basically a giant wishing well of anything you want to experience. Considering that you can live for the same amount of money in either place, reasonably similarly, you're technically likely to be able to "get more" out of BKK.

I still wouldn't want to have missed out on the time I spent in PP.

In the end, you're going to have to have your own experience. Nobody can tell you what you're going to like. Pick one and go, don't go read four billion forum posts and try to turn that into a crystal ball of your future.

Side note: In BKK currently. Always up for meetups with interesting peoples who're hanging around.
