I would be very wary of drinking much after roughly 40. It made my weight problem worse.

As one of my clinical instructors told me "alcohol sneaks into your life".., there are no legal repercussions or societal ones unless you are getting DUIs or the like, nor are there OVERT social repercussions for getting 20-30 lbs of LARD around your midsections except creeping invisibility to women.

Don't romanticize alcohol.

For me it's been hard to get rid of 20-30 lbs at 50+, would be harder if I was still drinking.

Sleep is good, and avoiding drug use. I am a big believer in massages. The move the lymph around and keep you younger. I go about once a week. I use them and accupuncture for stress release. I have had close family destroy their lives with drugs and alcohol, so I dont drink for relief. I have been around that stuff since I was a small kid. I have seen it destroy lives up close, so its a no brainer for me. Im about 40, but sleep and clean living is the clincher for me. Funny enough I like to drink even more now than I ever have. I crave a drink almost every night now, and drink 3-4 nights a week. I am carrying a small gut right now and I am working to fix that. Actually thinking of "monk mode" to hit my body comp goal, as dumb as that sounds, because I literally have to lock myself indoors to keep from drinking and eating. Plus chasing tail doesnt help.

In my early 40's now, so I am starting to pay for my mistakes.

If I was 20 again, I would cut out sugar from my diet. Especially sugar in things like ready meals and every day food. I think sugar is the main culprit in binge eating. Since cutting it out at the end of last year I am now back to my 2009 weight, and hopeful of more weight loss.

One good thing - I still look younger than my true age. Well apart from hair loss. The main thing here is I don't smoke and I keep out of the sun. I've been to China - Chinese older women look great because they're more scared of the sun than vampires are. By contrast when I was in Thailand I was amazed at how old the white Australian girls looked.

Another good thing - I never bought a car, so I have to walk everywhere. That keeps off weight.

Stuff I've seen on my travels...
