Marisa Hochberg, 27, who told her story as part of the Yahoo Health series Weight-Loss Win, described her journey in detail, from being an overweight bullied teen, up to the moment of realization she experienced one day on a Central Park bench in her native New York that would change her life.

'Growing up, I always loved food,' she wrote. 'I wouldn’t have described myself as an emotional eater, but I did struggle with my weight, and because of that, I was bullied.'

RAlthough there was the odd five-pound weight loss over the years, Marisa explained that she was never able to make it permanent. And then, when she went off to college in Michigan, she began to gain even more weight.

Her first hurdle towards a happier life, Marisa wrote, was not even about her weight but rather a fear of flying - something that caused a great deal amount of stress in her life as she traveled back and forth from university to her home in New York.

'I told myself that unless I confronted the fear head-on and challenged it, I would never overcome it,' she said. 'If I didn’t fly, I’d be holding myself back. I’d never see the world.'

And confront the fear she did, and overcame it in the end. But the experience led to another question: 'What else was holding me back?'

And then something happened that pushed the now 170lb Marisa, then a student at New York University, to the brink, and forced her to re-evaluate her lifestyle – and her attitude towards life in general.

'Just as I began acknowledging how much my weight held me back, a friend of mine started dating a guy I liked,' wrote Marisa. 'I was so hurt. I sat on a bench in Central Park one afternoon, and for the hundredth time in my life, I recognized how appearance-based our world is.

'I wanted more for my life — and it started with removing the limitations of my weight.'

With a new resolve, Marisa 'got up from that bench, walked to Whole Foods and bought a haul of healthy foods'. She then went back to her apartment, where she purged her cupboard of everything processed, sugar-packed and carbo-loaded.

From that day forward, Marisa changed her ways. She did her own research - forgoing any help from trainers or nutritionists - and came up with her own healthy recipes and gym plan.

She constructed a diet which included plenty of protein - egg whites in particular - vegetables, fiber, green tea - and absolutely no white carbohydrates and sugar.

In addition to her new diet, she made daily visits to the gym after class. 'The fact that I was consistent was what mattered most,' she said. Then the results started to show.

'My body was transforming. As with anything in life, when you begin to see results for something you have worked so hard for, you’ll do what it takes to hold on to them.'

One year later, the 5'1'' student had gone from 170lbs to 95lbs.

'I’ll never forget the first time I walked into a store and picked up a size double zero,' she remembered. 'I cried.'

Sharing her journey on social media, Marisa not only received an outpouring of support from friends and colleagues, but also requests for advice from others hoping to lead healthier lives.

Eventually she became involved with charitable organizations for healthy living and even organized wellness events with experts in the Hamptons to help people find the support that they need.

Keeping the weight off with regular cardio and a diet of groceries only from the outer rim of the supermarket - 'As a general rule, anything in the middle aisles are almost always bad for you' - Marisa wrote that there is 'no secret' to maintenance. Rather, she championed turning your weight loss regime into a lifestyle.

Marisa rounded off her tales with a bite of advice for others intimidated by the journey to losing weight the healthy way.

'If you’re just starting out, believe in yourself. YOU CAN DO IT, [sic]' she wrote.' But start now. The longer you put off your weight-loss journey, the longer you have to wait to you achieve your goal.

'I also would urge you: Do not lose weight for anyone but yourself. If you do it for yourself, it won’t be such a struggle.'

Fluctuating your body weight 10-20 pounds is forgivable. Doubling your body weight is not.

I'm glad she got obsessed with it and did it right, dropped right down to 95 pounds.

If she had more female friends they would have probably convinced her to stop at about 150 pounds once they saw she was getting serious results.

I've written this before, but she is pretty dumb to be writing about this stuff. When some guy wants to wife her and he googles her, he will know that she has the potential to blow the fuck up. But actually he is at least doing the guy a favor by making it known.

Good that she made the changes necessary to improve her look, the more women who do this the better.

As the poster above mentions about SA, EE and Asia not having as many fatties, fatness levels definitely play a role in attractiveness.
