Sorry but this is the most moronic statement ever. How can a red pill guy buy such shallow propaganda?

I think that as a red pill guy, you should do the following:
1. Be aware. Red pill is about understanding the world as it is.
2. Decide what works for you - you may want a new car (with risks involved) or an older car (with maintenance risk - perhaps) or use public transport. All good as long as you understand cost/risk/benefit.
3. Self driving cars may reduce traffic jams. It can also allow you to do things on the way. It is not "All Bad and Evil".
However - it is up to you to decide what is good for you.
4. Less hype ("most moronic statement ever") please.

Actually, self driving cars would be better in bumper to bumper traffic as backups happen due to people hitting the brakes for no reason, creating an accordion effect.

I'm sure you have all been in traffic that slowed almost to a stop for no apparent reason, only to blast back to normal speed shortly after. That's why.

One person gets on the brakes and everyone behind them brakes harder, causing gridlock.

I see this and hate other drivers.

I dread the day self driving cars become the standard. One of the few remaining joys left to us in the concrete wastelands we call our cities and suburbs is to climb into a car, put it in gear and just drive.Shit, when I think of how my life is going to look like when I get older and am finished with chasing girls/being on the make fulltime, a lot of that mental image consists of settling down in some sparsely populated part of the country, getting a vehicle such as an M4, and going to town with it. Fuck lame shit like "self driving," you look at that car and tell me you don't wanna be the one driving it!

If we think about how this is implemented, it will probably become mandatory in some form as a safety feature.

Going into full self-driving mode may be optional. There may be dedicated lanes for it on the highway, as with carpool lanes.

Traffic jams are dependent on how many people want to reach the same destination and how many roads are leading to that destination and how wide these roads are. it has nothing to do with self driving cars. The only thing that will change is that some losers will be forced to take longer roads to distribute traffic equally among all the roads. If a thousand people select the same destination as their goal there is going to be a traffic jam with or without self driving cars unless the car just brutally refuses you to take there which I imagine will actually start to happen if these cars become the norm and normal cars are made illegal.

Also if the car will make the decision about the route to reach destination it will take away so much. Maybe you will miss your favorite view or maybe you will be forced to drive trough a bad neighborhood, which you bet won't be recognized in the politically correct map.

Self driving cars are only good for big corporations like Google who want to control everything and profit from everything. If an individual says he looks forward to self driving cars for any reason then I have nothing but contempt for him.

Thanks bro. It seems that you take issue with my assertion that human driving patterns cause traffic jams, not that you are a fan of traffic and take issue with my opinion that ending it is a good thing. I still remember my father explaining the paper to me when I was a child and it first came out. Advise to read this before calling names.

Quote:A pioneering work of Nagel and Schreckenberg published in Journal de Physique in 1992 introduced a simple lattice model of traffic which reproduced the traffic jam phenomenon and came to a surprising conclusion that the essential ingredient was infrequent random slowdowns.

You have probably done so yourself, you change the radio station or adjust the rear view mirror, or speak the child in the seat behind you. As you do so, your foot eases off the accelerator ever so slightly irritating the person behind you who has to disengage the cruise control. You and people like you are responsible for the traffic jams when the volume is heavy but there are no obvious obstructions to traffic.

So it's not a matter of rerouting drivers, just a matter of eliminating minor inconsistencies in human driving. It's a simple counterpoint to provoke thought. I mentioned my older vehicles I enjoy and obviously don't think it's worth the tradeoff, but them's the facts.

You guys are missing the biggest benefit of this.

If your car drives itself you can mac on the girl in the car next to yours.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.
