I sometimes binge watch shows. I recently started watching The White Shadow. I remember it airing on CBS when I was a child. You can watch it free on IMDB. Over three seasons from 1978 to 1981, 54 episodes were made.

Ken Howard plays Ken Reeves, the white basketball coach at Carver High School. His NBA career ends after a knee injury, and a friend from college offers him the job to coach at the fictitious school in the ghetto of Los Angeles.

On paper, Reeves doesn't fit in at all. But his attitude earns him the respect of his players. He even challenges the boys to one-on-one. He also shows his alpha attitude with administrators and others who challenge him. You could call him the "dirty harry" of high school sports coaches.

Reeves truly cares about his players though and realizes that he is a father-figure to his players. He often offers to help them with their personal problems. He even says: "I coach people." He encourages his players to be successful on and off the court, in spite of their disadvantages.

He's much like Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights. However, Reeves is still a bachelor , while Taylor is married. The show also spends more time actually dealing with sports-related issues, while FNL became a soap as time went on.

The White Shadow shows many of the qualities one needs to have to be a successful man. And it's free on the Net, so you can't go wrong. Give it a watch.
