As well all know, some foreign accents sound silly in English (Japanese, Chinese) and others can sound badass (Russian) and some are just kind "normal" for lack of a better word. I recall here there was a thread about learning Spanish here and someone pointed out the English speakers often sound really stupid/goofy in Spanish. It got me thinking, in what other languages does an English accent sound "good"?

I'm sure there are other inquiring minds that want to know - any edge in Game is helpful after all.

I would imagine that an American accent sounds good in every country. Especially a southern accent. 'Murica!

In some varieties of Brazilian Portuguese (I think it was Paulista), being an American English speaker helps with the pronounciation since both have similar sounds (e.g. porta = pawrta).

This actually brings up a topic I was speaking to a friend of mine about just a couple days ago. As a native English speaker, obviously I pick up on foreign accents as people who speak English as a second language while be influenced by how their mouth has been trained to speak their native language.

For example - just based on how someone sounds when they speak English, you can guess their native language and, by extension, where they are from. I'm very curious to know what foreign accents sound like in other languages. Is it just as easy to pick up on an American speaking German? An Indian speaking Russian? Also, as the OP asked, are some accents attractive in other languages? Is an American-English accent desirable and easy to understand in other languages?

We all know thick Indian accents sound terrible in English, as do most Southeast Asian based accents. African accents are not that appealing either. Most Western and Eastern European based accents sound appealing and exotic.

Sounds pretty cool when you speak cantonese.

Most ABCs pull it off well.
