Also, they are drawing killings from a time when whites were a bigger part of the population so it's a little skewed I imagine.

A few years ago for my birthday I went to Chicago for the weekend, it was in the middle of June.

There were more than 100 different shootings from Friday night to Sunday night. People shot included: Babies, people waiting by the bus, whole housing complexes, elderly people walking their dog and of course probably 80 "youths", or as everyone else knows them, 16-21 year old black men.

Not quite the same. Gang shootings are a lot like military casualties, there is an existing real (not delusional, or paranoid belief) enemy that is likely trying to actively kill you in an established violent dispute.For Example- the St. Valentine's day massacre would not be considered a mass shooting due to gang related nature of the act.

Mass shootings are committed for different reasons. The factoid that white men commit most 'mass shootings' is arrived at by selecting a certain type of mass shooting (the delusional work/school massacre type) and elevating it over the much more common gang-type shooting.

It's the old trick: anyone can hit the bullseye if you shoot first, then draw the target around where your shots hit. It's entirely possible there's a type of murder committed predominantly by left-handed lesbians--let's say "stabbing a female lover with a chef's knife." I could arbitrarily give that a name--let's say psycho stabbing--and then write articles asking why left-handed lesbians commit all the psycho stabbings. There might only be 5 stabbing murders in the country, out of thousands, that fit my definition, stabbing a female partner with a chef's knife. But if I have something against left-handed lesbians, it behooves me to single them out for special treatment.

I do not concede that white men commit a disproportionate number of mass shootings even if we define it as something like "shooting to death 3 or more victims selected arbitrarily by a mentally ill person with little previous history of violence." But even if that were true, given how few incidents and victims there are of that specific kind of shooting, why are we singling out that type of shooting as opposed to the far more common gangland mass shootings? Is it just because they make a lot of headlines when they do happen? Is it, in fact, because white men do them, so singling them out gives us a club to beat white men with?

There may be a good reason to single out this type of mass shooting. Maybe they are more preventable, by watching warning signs and improving mental health care, than gangland shootings are. But it is on the people singling these shootings out for special attention to justify why they deserve it; specifically, to justify why the type of mass shooting typically committed by white men is more important than the type of mass shooting typically committed by black men, given that the latter are far more numerous.

Mass killings are often done by sexually frustrated beta incels, and there's a lot of asians and white males in that category.

I think it is largely due to the constant, but often somewhat subliminal, attack on masculinity and masculine roles.

I remember reading about how during one of the shooting incidences, I think it was Sandy Hook, the gun debate was raging and within a few days of the incident a lot of people were pointing out that in China a man stabbed a bunch of children.

If you look at the history of incidents of shootings/killings in this fashion it always happens in areas that are seen to represent hallmarks of masculine success.

Go back in time to the 70s and 80s and it was work place shooting and was called "going Postal" due to it happening in some post offices by employees.

A job has always represented what we tell people is a hallmark of success that allows a man to be a man and engage in his masculine need to provide for a family.

Then with Columbine it was school shootings. Is that surprising since it was boomers and older folks in the system constantly harping on and on to gen xers and millenials about how you will never amount to anything, or be a successful man, if you don't get an education.

Recently there have been children targeted in a few incidents like Sandy Hook and apparently this is somewhat common in China.

In China having children represents a masculine success. Same is largely true here.

While I don't think this is 100% of the answer to the problem I do think it is a large part of it.

Simply put, most men are not violent by nature. This is why the army has to break men down psychologically and then build them up to be potential killers.

When men are in existential pain they are far more likely to kill themselves because they blame themselves. If you see yourself as a problem then you turn inwards as a violent reaction.

However if you blame the system then you turn against the system and target the icons of success in that system (Children, recreation like movies, places of employment, education, women and their nature, etc.).
