Cool, so one backwards country black guy likes to fly the Confederate flag.

He doesn't justify any argument.
It's the same as the "I'm not racist, I have a black friend" rationale.

Well that's unfortunate, but that his book seems very interesting though.

I'm very interested in the rationale of black people that wave the confederate flag.

Anyone have a link?

I would say more than half the southern country guys I know who happen to be black fly the Confederate flag.

As one guy who's from central Florida that flies it and has gone to a couple shit hole countries with me put it:

"Man, fuck those people! I'm from the South. I like the South. I grew up with the Confederate flag. But these motherfuckers say I can't fly it 'cause I'm black? What the fuck else can't I do 'cause I'm black? Fish? White people fish. Can I do that, too? Fucking assholes."

I would guess that one reason was that it was undeniably a symbol of the South before it was a symbol for segregationists. Thus why someone like Sophia Loren wold wave it to celebrate her (Italian) Southerness:

Here is one recent black student's rationale for why he waves it, but supported it being taken down at the SC memorial. He caused a stir a few years ago for hanging it in his window on campus:

In addition, H.K. Edgerton is a former head of the Asheville, NC NAACP who is a member of the SCV, and a well-known activist:

The people who are offended by the flag need to get over it and stop acting like little babies. People read what they want into the flag and I'll be goddamned if I let anyone dictate what it means to me.

Dylann Roof, accused Charleston church gunman, indicted on federal hate crime charges

Partial Quote.

Quote:The man accused of gunning down nine people inside a historic African American church in Charleston, S.C., last month has been indicted on federal hate crime charges, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced Wednesday.

He faces dozens of federal charges, including some that carry a potential death sentence, though Lynch said the federal government has made no decision yet on whether to pursue the death penalty.

Dylann Roof, 21, had already been charged with nine counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder for the massacre inside the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The Charleston shooter Dylann Roof has been given the death penalty.

He absolutely deserves it... as does anyone of any race who kills 9 innocent people for any reason.

also, its the best possible sentence. Protesters can in no way take to the streets to riot against this outcome.

Really? This is the main reason why "its the best possible sentence"?

Yes. Roof didn't offer any apologies and seemed to be accepting of the death penalty. The death penalty for killing 9 people seems appropriate regardless of racial or political motivation.

If he were tried in a non death penalty state, Black Lives Matter would be out there protesting that he should be put to death and then we'd have jailhouse interviews and other Anders Brevik type stuff by the media whenever they want to try to inflame racial tensions again.

A death sentence means that Roof gets to be the martyr he wanted to be and the media gets no more highlight reels beyond that picture of him with the confederate flag.

I am against the death penalty, even for Dylann Roof. The conviction in this case was far more important than the sentance.

Mindblown

I support it, all the way.

Just a shame we can't drag him out back and shoot him. Wonder how much these people are costing the tax payer...

I don't like the death penalty because I don't want the state to have the power of life and death over any human being.

However, Roof is a murderous sucmbag and I won't mourn his death.

I generally agree with this---if the state has the power to take your life, then it also has the power to take anything else from you as well.

That said, I also won't be shedding any tears over this man's death.

A simple .45 to the back of the head is the fast track and saves tax payer money.

It's better to have a trial/justice and then sentenced to death, instead of a street justice lynching by the victims families don't you think ?

Fun fact:

The pastor/church he shot up - is against the death penalty.
