I'm 20, live in NYC, don't go to school (I'm not going back until I have something specific that I want to pursue) and work stock at a supermarket. Don't feel like I should admit to that...what should I say if I'm doing elderly talk and she asks? I talked to one girl a couple years older than me who seemed ambitious and like she had her life together - she's doing all the 'right' things in life - and it just felt weird.

That was before I got the job...I was coming back from an interview and I told her that I was unemployed and wasn't going to school and I said it in this apologetic/'aww shucks' way.

Dude. You're actively working on improving yourself; by default, you're a fucking winner. You should be confident in your ability to either be who you want to be or die trying.

That said, go with the "I'm unemployed and living in my dad's basement." with a smirk. She doesn't care what you do, and even if she did, her opinion (if you are really being real with yourself) is not important to you. Sandbag her ass. If you google "shit test" you find a lot of interesting ways to respond to questions.

Yeah, sounds like a good idea, I'll try that. I think I actually tried to pander to her after be telling her that I wanted to go to med school eventually in order to seem 'normal', which was just some distant idea I had a while ago that I'm not that into anymore.

This is great, I think Roosh had written about this in one of his books as well. Try something totally over the top like:

her: "what do you do?"
you: "I direct tiger porn for animal planet, what do you do?"

There is the key, answer it with an insane answer and then turn it around on her...if she's cool she will reply with something equally insane and make it a funny game. If she's stuck up she will be put on her heels and have to validate herself to you.

Hey it happens. Let me know how it works out for you, I'm complete crap at this as well.

Here are some of notes on my experiences:

Watching Seinfeld helps a lot.

Voice enhancement - developing interest and dissecting the details of how I speak makes me enjoy the sound of my own voice more. I have more fun with that, giving less thought to what is being said and allowing me to easily play around with the conversation

Canned lines can help get you into the groove, and make you more capable of coming up with your own stuff

I took a semester of improv. This shit is awesome, if you can find a club or group this can really help. I didn't learn more than the very basic stuff but the whole "Yes and..." thing is a great place to start. Basically, it's agree and amplify. whatever she says, say "yes, and...!" building on the conversation

I was talking to a girl at a bar a few days ago. It's possible to overdo it...being too goofy, using too many jokes....
It's something I suppose you have to dial in. There's a sweet spot to aim for between too much and too little.

I used to try to copy guys who were naturally good at doing this stuff. I looked like an ass. You have to make your delivery organic, your own personal style or it seems forced. It takes practice.

Those are just my thoughts so far. I'm getting better.

Say that you work for a charity, carer or something. That always impressed girls plus it gives you an excuse for earning shit money (you do it for the love) and you can be 'on call' and 'work all sorts of weird hours' which allows you some freedom to manouvre.
