Another thought - suits are easy. It's much harder to combine unrelated pants and jacket into a fly outfit - you need more versatility and colors etc. With a suit, half your outfit it set. Forget the tie, wear some decent shoes and pick a shirt with a complementary, never identical pattern, pocket square.

Thanks for the advice comrade. I didn't think about checking second hand stores. I suppose one could find pretty decent threads in there. I wonder if it's possible to find anything of quality at a TJ Maxx or Ross. I know you can find fantastic denim there as well as underwear and socks.

You can find pretty neat stuff, for very cheap prices. I mean, if I have managed to find a Canali (yes, genuine Canali) suit for like 20$ in my country, you can probably find something in the thrift stores in your area.



The only thing you need is to be patient. With a little bit of luck, you will snatch something.

When I put on some nice trousers, a crisp button-up, a pair of slick shoes and a tie I feel like a million bucks. Dressing a particular way certainly affects your attitude.

Its an issue for sure. For that I'm glad I wear suits now and not 6 - 7 years ago when I start to bulk up. Now I don't put on that much muscles any more. The go up and down phase is a mess up for shirts and pants. So personal I had just some shirts and decent pants back them, no full suit.

As I mention before adjust the suit as well. Don't need to be tailor made when its one of your first suits. Almost every decent store that offers suits provide a fitting service. Wide shoulders, small hips, thick legs is a mess up for any clothing line. When you go to a good store, get good service you can buy a standard suit and let it adjust. Now it looks very smooth.
I did start with 2 suits. For each of them I did also buy 2 pants. You never know what happen to your pants so have a backup pair is nice. Furthermore later find some in the exact same colour and the waiting for them to be adjust and fitted on you take a long time. So just buy two pair of pants with each suit. Also when you wear a suit regular at some point the pants will get more used then the blazer or the shirt.


And never buy clothes in advance for your future size. Especially a suit will mostly not fit then. Then you wasted a lot of money for a suit you can't wear now and that mostly will not fit in the future.

As a young guy I still dont see a suit win out against blazer + designer jeans, unless its an informal, color suit.

I love my tailored charcoal suit, but however I dress it it just doesnt have the fun and relaxed vibe of a well cut designer blazer (mine is The Kooples) + designer jeans. Both convey style but the blazer is more fun, while the suit conveys a bit more authority. I just dont see how authority trumps fun in most pick up situation.

Was at a networking event recently with a navy blazer, popping blue shirt, light grey pants, monkstraps and pocket square. Lots of other guys around with full suit and tie, though I got complimented. You don't always have to be the most dressed to be the best dressed, though having a well fitting blazer + pocket square is key for higher end events.
