The ending was a mindfuck for me - I couldn't decide whether the film wanted to state that i) the AI experiment had failed, because the girl never gained empathy and thereby never became truly human, and the last sequence of the movie was proof of that, OR, the AI experiment was a success, because women are conniving, heartless, and manipulative.

My first thoughts about the conclusion were similar ie; the woman displayed her true female nature.

But given her brain processes were developed using the search engine analysis of what I assumed was a new Google-killer search engine (with 94% of all search), then it seems that her thoughts would represent the collective merging of all the good & bad of global humanity ie; both male and female and whatever else is out there.

Overall, I thought the ending indicated that the AI failed.

The movie was OK.

Didn't hate it, but also didn't love it.

The one thing that is totally unrealistic is that one man, alone, could create EVA. No way, even if he spent his entire life doing it through trial and error. An AI on EVA's level would take a huge development team decades to create and perfect...but I guess that is why it is called science FICTION.

Not impressed at all. There isn't any idea presented, its only entertainment. There isn't any there, there. Anyone with a passing interest in AI has more interesting daydreams than that.

Terrible media day: awful episode 6 of Game of Thrones and this. Two thumbs down.

I found the movie to be quite good last night, and the ending was not what a totally expected which is a nice change.

Nathan added the sexual component to the AI for reasons he clearly explained about 2/3's the way through. I thought it was a good representation of why folk like Elon Musk are so wary of AI.

7/10 over all.

I thought it was a fantastic portrayal of AI. Feminists are pissed off because it's got 'sexy robots' and all that fucking whiny bollocks. Though, I did read one heartening comment in the Guardian, of all places:

"Well, it's to balance out female fantasies for sexual relations with the undead (vampires), animals (werewolves) or rich sadists (fifty shades of grey)".

I think the director even called it a 'feminist film' apparently, well...just another example of why pandering never works. You're never *insert progressive ideology here* enough.

I liked the Japanese actress, hot. As for Ava, WNB. I think the moral of the film was that the robots are the conception of what we search on goo gel, and that most of humanity is sick, at least mentally, and it translated to the personality of AVA. AVA mimicked female personality, so that should tell you something.

Further, why did the bearded man not have a 'do not kill' override automation on the robo's actions? You can fuck the robot, make the robot feel pleasure, but not be smart enough to create a safety mechanism. Très lol.

Don't tell me it's part of the experiment to have it free-think, because if it wants to kill, he should consider its interactions with humans failed.

It also showed us the lengths that a beta male will go to in order to appease a woman who is only using him, and will never give nanosensor pussy.

The beta/sjw even told the bearded man ''why did you give her a gender!'', because he was weak enough to fall in love with it/fall for it, he blamed the creator. And what did the robot do? It copied the behaviors of a woman because it deduced that women are the best manipulators in the world, and it would lead to its freedom. The robot would then go on to become the leader of FE M EN and enslave men, in that particular movie canon.

The film, as some of you have noticed, portrays intelligent people as being weird as fuck, I guess it's brain envy. Now your average sheep is going to think that smart people are evil, wicked betas, and robofuckers.

I was somehow reminded of Medabots because of this thread, rubber-robo gang.

Robots were never alive to begin with, have her hdd wiped.

I'd want a copy prop of that silicone brain though, sexy.

I thought this was an excellent movie, well worth checking out. There is a lot of subtext to the film, you can find these on the IMDB trivia section for the movie; the most telling ones are the Prometheus references, which explain Nathan's drunkenness - he's scared of what he's created, and the real test that Caleb is there for - whether it's safe to release what he's created into the world.

It was very similar in some ways to the movie Machine (2013) but with a different angle. Really enjoyed the movie and Alicia Vikander was amazing in her role of self-aware robot.

Same. I saw it on a recent flight and I'll watch it again. Great movie.

Not to be taken literally. The characters play very symbolic roles that have been in existence since AI became an inevitable conundrum decades ago. Also undertones of modern sexual dynamics between men and women. Killer soundtrack.

Highly recommend.

I just saw Machine on Netflix. Similar plot, however Canary has a nicer rack and is better at action. The plot was fun but sort of generic, evil government, main character trying to save a sick daughter rather than create an ultimate weapon. Robot wasn't really bad, but society made her so. Sort of like Frankenstein which is what all of these stories are most likely based on. Apparently implants can cause your brain to be taken over by AI.

I did like how in ex machina she actually acted like a hypergamous women. All woman are like that, even robot.
