Generally the seasons are split between rugby union & rugby league.

Union is played during the winter, League through the summer.

British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand coming up, be sure to tune in. Selection of all the British Isles teams against usually the best team in the world NZ.

Begins 3rd June








Rugby League is the more intense, similar to your football with having 6 tackles instead of downs.

My first time in Australia I became aware of the State of Origin series. As it implies, you represent the state you were born in, Queensland v NSW. Dynamite.

Almost all end up in a rammy.

So in my box, I have a ton of sports channels, including BT Sports 1&2 and Skysports. I tried to watch yesterday and ended up with cricket and soccer. I'm going to find it on the streaming sites and then try the box.

I for one am really looking forward to the Lions series. If anyone has thought about maybe getting in to watching rugby, this is your time to start! It is a representative team from the British Isles (making up 4 of the best 10 teams in the world) facing New Zealand (who are the best team).

The main test matches between the Lions and NZ don't start until later in June but there are warm up games against NZ club sides starting on June 3rd. The test matches will be even more brutally physical than normal rugby games.

However I think that the time for most North Americaners will be bad as they are broadcast at 8:30 am in the UK so that must be during the middle of the night in the US. You could always record them though.

The main attraction in rugby union in 2017 is the British and Irish Lions vs the All Blacks series of 3 matches starting this June. No other matches this year will feature the same intensity, assuming the Lions will be competitive.

I would have thought it would be pretty competitive, unless something goes tits up like in '05.

England are also playing Argentina which might be at a more suitable time for US viewers.

^^ Agree, the 2005 Tour was a low point for the Lions team. Dan Carter really shone for New Zealand in 2005, especially in the second Test.
The Lions tour every four years and they were much-improved in 2009 (against South Africa), narrowly losing the series, and then they won the series against Australia in 2013, which led to the dismissal of the latter's head coach.

If any of you want to watch some pretty decent rugby online, if you head to the 'World Rugby' website they are live streaming all games for this year's U20 Rugby world cup.

South Africa against France and Ireland vs Italy on at the moment. Later today the hosts Georgia are playing Argentina at 3pm GMT, then Australia against Wales even later. It is a decent level especially for the top sides.

British and Irish lions just won the second test match (NZ won the first) against the All Blacks. A brutal game, make sure you watch the highlights! Or even better make sure you wake up nice and early for the third test next week (kick off is 8:35 GMT).

Yeah it's good for the sport that the All Blacks' invincibility is not absolute. I saw highlights only. The first match last week was high intensity. Onwards to the series decider next Saturday. I bet it will be a test of mental strength, rather than tactics and ability.

Today is England vs France, traditionally the biggest, most physical and most intense game in Europe.

I know for a fact that this year all the games are on some popular US sports channel, and kick off is around 11:30am East Coast time!

France are pretty abysmal these days. Wales and the Irish the ones to watch.
