I'm trying to decide if this is due to Buzzfeed's bullshit being so overpowering that even Gawker is getting sick of it or if it's because Gawker realizes that they have a lot of the same audience as Buzzfeed (Coke vs Pepsi) so they are trying to stick it to a competitor.

I don't know if I've ever clicked on a Buzzfeed link. I know a lot of media brands went to crap after Gawker bought them out. Lifehacker was great before they sold. After, their content because as inane as "Remembering to breath can benefit you".

Funny this should happen. Here is a recent Buzzfeed "article" a female friend of mine linked to on Facebook: "23 Red Lipsticks You Need To Purchase Immediately."

I put the word article in quotes above because this isn't really an article. It's list to appeal to future advertisers and appeal to current ones. Every one of these "lipsticks you need to own" comes from a brand that can or did advertise with Buzzfeed. I'm surprised they made it this obvious, but since people are posting it, maybe they don't see (or don't care) that it's so clearly an "advertorial." There are even links to the products.

The old media had a lot of flaws, but it was never this transparent when it came to kissing the butts of advertisers. No old school editor would have assigned this, even in the women's mags.

The fact that this passes for journalism and they're deleting other articles because of advertisers should make people think twice about the credibility of their brand. I hope readers catch on and start to think of Buzzfeed as the online equivalent of a supermarket circular or tabloid, not as real journalism.

She was never that hot, but damn the change is noticeable. What is it with mid-tier girls moving to cities that makes them take a nose dive on the 10 scale? I had a friend that I grew up with. She wasn't the hottest girl, maybe a solid 6.5-7 when she was in good shape and dolled up nicely. However, she was cute in her own way and was a cool chick. I moved away and didn't see her for years, then she and I met up after awhile and hung out for a bit. She was looking good. Then she moved to NYC to attend Columbia. I hadn't spoken to her or even really followed her on FB for years and about a year ago I was on FB for the first time in awhile and saw that she had uploaded a shit ton of stuff in the 3 years or so since I had been on FB and really looked at her profile. So, wondering what happened to my friend over all those years I spent a little while and looked through all her pictures and a lot of her updates. She looked horrible. She easily dropped several points on the scale in just her facial features and other appearance related features, she also had gained a bunch of weight. The weirdest thing is that she got much more masculine looking in the face. Hell, in her late twenties she was talking in one update about having to get several dental implants.

WTF gives? Is it something in the water or air in these cities? The food? The cock carousel? What?

I just saw yet another Buzzfeed "advertorial" someone posted on Facebook.

This was from 2014 and back then it was "44 Frozen Treats You Need To Try In NYC This Summer" (I'm not going to bother to include a link; Google it if you want to see it).

I'd love to know how many of articles like this Buzzfeed actually runs, but finding out would require me to go through the site, something I have no inclination to do.

In my post above I mentioned how newspapers never promoted their advertisers (or potential advertisers) this openly. However, I should mention that women's magazines have long done this. Lots of what's written in women's mags is covertly advertising something, which is why they try to balance it with those sob-sister "true stories."

So Buzzfeed is actually following the model of women's magazines. That's fine, except people might be mistaking it for a more serious form of media.

We trash them a lot here but it's only important because people think it's important. It won't be long before posting a Buzzfeed article on Facebook will be just like posting a Cosmo article, only the typist of the Buzzfeed article will think differently. I don't worry about it much in the long run.

Simply the peer pressure of uglier women deliberately sabotaging her sexual-attractiveness by encouraging changes that degrade, not enhance, her beauty to level the playing field for all. Any 'Right On' town, such as Seattle, will do its best to force beauty equality onto pretty girls - it's easy to do if you encourage ugliness as being 'hip' and 'Edgelord' - but this happens even within peer groups.

A common one you'll see is a pack of girls where the prettiest one has a pixie cut. You think she came up with that idea by herself?

- A woman she knew was looking at a celebrity and sighing "I'd love to try that, but you have to be really pretty to pull that look off." She knew exactly what she was doing by making this statement.

- The pretty girl then gets the haircut, wanting to both prove she's pretty enough to pull it off to the other woman, and signal her superior status by 'taking' something the other woman was openly-wishing for away from her. She too knows exactly what she's doing.

Women call this kind of constant jostling for status, deliberate crushing of dreams and constant sabotage in the name of personal power 'friendship' or being 'besties'.
