Cops behaving badly #4000, cop runs over suspect
This is getting massive coverage on CNN today. The guy is no innocent bystander either, but to ram a walking away suspect with a police car is over the top.

Quote:Valencia faces 15 charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor

http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/14/us/arizona...index.html

The cop swerves and aims at a suspect fleeing. Why all of a sudden are cops bad behavior more covered by the media? Is it due to Fergerson? Are they trying to engineer public opinion to hate cops in hope to replace with them with something else?

The video.

Because police behaving badly generates ratings, just like it generates threads.

RE: Cops behaving badly #4000, cop runs over suspect
I wouldn't describe him as "fleeing," at least not in the sense that he was running to get away. He wasn't running, he was slowly walking away while holding a loaded weapon. He also discharged the weapon at the start of the video.

This could have ended much better, but also much worse. This is not to say that this was in any way the right thing to do, especially because the (presumably) superior officer is telling everybody to stand back. I would like a greater length of video and more information to know if this is justifiable. With the information we have now, given that the gun was discharged and it is in a residential community, I'm leaning on toward this action being reasonable.

RE: Cops behaving badly #4000, cop runs over suspect
He used the tools available to him to take down a guy with a gun. If he hadn't hit him with his car, he probably would have had to shoot him.

Whether it was "a good call" is obviously going to be a matter of differing opinions, so I won't even bother stating my thoughts, but this definitely doesn't fall into the abuse of authority or "cops behaving badly" category.

It's a simple question of whether the judgement displayed was reasonable.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

They already have. It doesn't affect them.

RE: Cops behaving badly #4000, cop runs over suspect
Those cop-threads are getting kind of unnecessary.

The system is geared towards creating a militarized trigger-happy force - it's not that the cops are all scum. The same officers serving in Norway or Switzerland would be cool dudes who would probably never discharge a weapon or hurt anyone.

If you took 100 known forum members from here and put them into the exact training and service that the average US cop goes through then I can virtually guarantee you that those 100 men would not be the same after a few years - and in a worse kind of way. The few that would be able to remain free from the more or less blatant indoctrination would be probably 5-10% and mostly because they are on guard and mentally disagree with a lot the system tells them to do.

The next phase the global war goes into internal security, so focusing on cops, crime, internal terrorism etc. is the logical next step. The cops are men we have more in common with than we may think - however - hate the system, love the cops - is no longer going to cut it. You have just to be on guard in some countries. Personally I think that the majority of US policemen are still honorable decent men, but over time I am sure that this will change because the system is designed that way.

The guy did have a loaded weapon, I would say it's either this or shoot him, so at least this was the easier option

I need to see the backstory before I let myself become enraged at some police brutality.

I'm pretty sure cops aren't taught to ram suspects with their police cars in police academy. This was some cowboy shit. It worked out in the end but there could of easily been an old grandma pruning the bushes on the other side of that fence.

Yeah this isn't a proper response, but the dude has discharged his weapon already, put against his head a few times and started walking down a street, who knows what he'd of done next.

You don't ram a motherfucker THAT fast, fuck hit him the side of your car.

Either way, it could've ended up worse, at least the dude that got hit isn't dead/severely injured hopefully they'll get him the mental care he needs - JK they'll throw his ass in jail and won't rehabilitate him.

This was insanely reckless for many different reasons.

The guy could've jumped out of the way and when the cop car crashed into the wall, unloaded his weapon into the trapped driver.

The cop who rammed him has more balls than brains and was lucky it worked out for him.

This does look reckless. Shooting at him would have looked pretty reckless too.

He was firing his gun on a public street. Their job is to protect themselves and the innocent.

Guy walking down my street in front of my house or my business, firing his gun for no reason, waving it around...take him out.

Whether it was the most efficient way of taking him out idk. I'm not a cop. But if I live or work there, I'm thanking that cop.

This video is hilarious. That dude had already committed several felonies that day, fired a shot in the air and was pointing the barrel at his own head. He was approaching a high traffic business area a block ahead. He is lucky things ended the way they did. He spent 2 days in the hospital and is now in jail, alive. It could have ended much worse and been completely justified.

Here is a longer video that provides more context to what was going on preceding Leroy Jenkins busting up the party.

It is unfortunate that he is probably mentally ill, but he will now have the opportunity to get treatment and may even one day thank the guy who ran him over for saving his life.

For those that say the cop was out of line, how would you have handled the situation? I'm not exactly a fan of the police, but I say this one is justified.
