RE: Is introversion a myth?
I realized that I was a bit of an introvert when I noticed I felt lonely in crowds, but energized alone. I'm extremely social, but I would rather be home. I prefer a bar\ pub\ tavern over a club. I used to love clubbing because that's where the women were. After being around a lot of people during the day at work I just want to be in my fortress. And if someone throws a house party or cookout I'm all in. Just to remain sociable. I make it a point to visit friends, and family on a rotation because it's extremely easy for me to become a cave bear.

The majority of people just tire me, but my friends energize me. Go figure. I have an allergy for stupid people I think.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Introversion does have its merits. Nearly every inventor or writer is one. An introvert can have extreme focus and persistence for his own project whereas a extrovert loses attention much faster. The extrovert is better at selling the product not inventing it.

I'm an introvert, always been, always will be and i'm sick of trying to fulfill the dream of being a popular guy that always has people around him. I just don't give a damn anymore and do my own shit.

RooshV Forum? More like an INTJ/INTP convention. Our gathering here is a self-reinforcing cycle.

As introverts, we often overanalyze an approach, then the window of opportunity closes and we miss her. Then we stumble upon this forum and ravage it of all its juicy information. Review the Guilty Pleasures thread and find the post that with the most likes. It's that we spend too much time and effort on this forum, other sites and the internet in general. This forum is a beautiful boon and a bane. We read, feed, regurgitate then create. Without the introvert brand of razor sharp concentration, this forum wouldn't exist or propel to this level in intellect.

Introversion exists, but everybody's social ability can be stretched. Imagine a nail hammered halfway into a block of wood. Thats's genetic. However, if you wrap a rubber band around its head you can still pull the nail and the block of wood. The rubber band is conditioned, but will always be anchored down by the nail. Surviving in a world based on showmanship and social skills requires you to find the maximum elasticity of that rubber band. I think the Hennessy motto nailed it. "Never stop, never settle." Stay pulling, my friends.

I'm definately an overanalyzer and reallyy want to make sure I'm clear and understood. My business partner makes fun of me that every email I write is a novel even if its just to answer a simple question, however at the same time when an important email needs to be written and a point needs to be expressed clearly I'm the one who writes it. Heck now that I think about it most of my posts on here are rather longwinded as well.

My girl just recently picked up a book on dating an introvert and honestly it's helped her out in understanding me. I think she took a lot of things I do personally as in I don't like her when in reality it's just how I am. Things like when i get home from work I need to be left the fuck alone for like an hour or I'll be an asshole.

Also when we fight she likes to scream and yell and I basically just totally shut down and hangup and ignore her ass which gets her even more pissed but then I guess she read introverts need time to think and analyze a situation not just react to stuff.

I'm careful with this whole introversion stuff. In some senses I think its good to understand myself and understand my weakness but so often I see people basically turn things into a self fulfilling prophecy and you wind up holding yourself back because you buy inot the idea your not meant to do this or that.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
I'm an extrovert who is guilty of writing off introverts as weirdos in the past, I simply couldn't stand being around people who didn't have much to say while I kept blabbing my mouth. One thing that really changed me was when I started learning Spanish and couldn't yet hold a proper conversation, I had to do a lot of listening in order to understand what the other person was saying, so I sort of became an introvert until I improved my language skills. Coupled with the fact that Colombians don't seem to have a need to ramble on as many North Americans do, I then began to see how its sometimes better to just shut up and enjoy the silence. Also, over the years I've met a few introverts though RVF and saw how some of these guys have really strong game but it doesn't come as much through verbal communication as it does through strong body language, working out and dressing well. Us extroverts can learn a lot from the more quiet guys.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Nothing wrong with being an INTJ, as a matter of fact I'd say it is the single type most suited for power, like Bosch was talking about earlier.

(04-06-2015 03:33 AM)AnonymousBosch Wrote:  You haven't seen Game until you've seen two INTJ's working as a team. We're only (EDIT: checked newer estimates) 0.8% of the population, so when we find each other, it's intense.

I'm an ENTJ so I'm fairly similar in most respects but I derive my energy from outside sources. In game this can either be an asset or a liability at different times.

It is rather humorous that I've noticed that the Roosh V Forum has both E and INTJ types at a far larger level than their proportion of the population (ENTJ is around 5% and INTJ 2%), and NT types more broadly.

But that's why this community is so great.

I'd be interested in knowing what ideologies attract what types, if a study has ever been done on the subject. If the Manosphere attracts a lot of NT types (unsurprising), what do feminist communities attract?

As an ENFP, I find this NT circle jerk.... amusing.

When I was young, I was a stereotypical out of my head extrovert. As i've aged, i've come to not only appreciate introversion but understand it's unique gifts.

The outer world isn't as rich as a fully developed inner one. What you natural introverts have is very rich.

The extroavert still has energy for 10 more.

The introvert will be more methodical and selective in their approach, enable a deeper connection through their thread choices, make less mistakes, and potentially be more likely to only need 10 approaches to achieve success. Icon_biggrin

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Most around me would describe me as an extrovert. I speak & carry myself well, can hold diverse conversations & am genuinely interested in others. But that's just on the surface & as a trained actor I can hide that very well if I have an incentive to. For the most part however, I don't.

I can't fucking stand 'small talk'. If I'm gonna engage in conversation, it had better provide me with knowledge, insight or humour or I'm out. Because what's going on in my head is far more important than driveling on in order to make someone in my presence comfortable. I take particularly badly to individuals who require 'entertaining'. I don't need to be entertained & I was gifted with as many faculties as you, so why is it up to me to engage? Add to this that my logic & reasoning is likely to be vilified when it impacts on 'feels' & frankly it's too much work.

Mostly because of other's estimations & my life & career trajectory I always invested in the self-image that I was an extrovert however reading Quiet:The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain I realised that I was completely living outside myself.

Since then I have made drastic changes to my living situation & lifestyle & have felt stronger by the day. Whilst I have a fantastic friend base that I love spending time with, I also love & need the time spent apart. If not, my behaviour can resemble someone who is over tired.

Being introverted is far from being lazy. In fact, I'd say it takes much more effort & ability to maximise your daily potential by default, because you are not being led by other minds & actions around you. Although as with anything, you get out of it what you put in.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Yet another INTJ here. I am very sociable but I prefer to be on my own. When situations present themselves and I can benefit from interactions than I turn into the most confident and likeable person you will ever meet. Just like the poster above I don't like small talk, I don't even like pleasantries such as "thank you" or your welcome" but I say them to not look like a prick. I do enjoy big group events and making new friends but like others have stated I need a break from people after long stretches of interactions. I dislike being smothered by friends who want to hang out everyday and prefer chilling on my own terms. I absolutely hate not having shit planned out and having some sort of back-up plan just in case.

As for the OP I 100% believe that introversion is real but it doesn't mean you are an antisocial fuck that never interacts with people, we just don't like long stretches of constant interaction. Once we recharge you won't even know that we are introverts. To emphasize what multiple people in this thread have said we "Fake it till we make it". THIS does NOT apply to every INTJ but I feel like a lot of the RVF guys are examples of this.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
(04-06-2015 01:56 AM)Alfa Wrote:  I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Before I got into game I would've considered myself an extreme extrovert. But once I got some momentum going with approaches, I noticed that I'm always more energized after socializing. I feel like I want to talk with more and more people any chance I get. I considered changing careers and going into sales. I realized how important connecting with others is.

I often wonder if introversion is simply an excuse for people too lazy to put in the work. Kind of how people who are overweight will often say "Oh I have a slow metabolism," when in reality only 200 calories/day separate the best from the worst.

This even extends to how the obese will blame their condition on genetics, when in reality, they've just been eating at a caloric surplus everyday of their lives.

Three answers:

1). Introversion is a personality trait, and there is a large genetic component to personality. Doesn't mean you can't change it. But when most of you get a little older and watch nephews and nieces grow up, you'll notice some are outgoing and some are shy and it's inborn. Here is one source.

2). Obesity also has a genetic component. That doesn't excuse overeaters. But studies have been done that show three people can eat the same thing and the thin one loses weight, the medium one stays the same, and the obese one gains weight. I can't find a source link for this, but Dr. Dean Edell used to speak of this on his radio show and he was not a "fat apologist" but a realist. If you're overweight, there are ways to reset your metabolism -- building muscle mass and staying on a diet for more than three years. The good news is this is much easier for men, who can add on muscle easier than women.

3). I think before new members are allowed to start threads they should be required to contribute at least 50 posts, if not more. We should know a bit about who you are. I made it a point to be a regular before I started my own thread. I smell a trollish attitude in this post with its attempt to provoke both introverted and overweight members. The word "excuse" set off my troll alarm.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
I have seriously felt both ends of the spectrum. I have had times where I need to replenish after being around people, and (the point where I am now) where I don't seem to care.

What I notice is that certain people bore me. I get them, and I get what they are trying to achieve, but the fact that I get what they are trying to prove bores me. Those people tire me. In those cases, like the "introverts" I need time to be alone, and basically clean my system.

Then I hang out with people who are genuinely interesting, and I don't feel that whatsoever.

So does that make me an introvert or an extrovert? I have felt both moments of extreme focus and extreme hyperactivity/lack-of-focus.

What people on this thread have said so far is that there are qualities inherent in us that go beyond I/E. There are qualities that come with birth order, date of birth, and so on. What that means is that there is more to the equation than Introversion Vs. Extroversion. I think the I/E duality is a problem. It becomes an excuse for some people to not be social, because they are not "extroverted". The common theme that I've noticed (in life, not particularly in this thread) is that the "introverted" people come from a lineage of self-centeredness that continues onward specifically because that is all they know.

Socialization is something that is achieved, not engrained.

I'm sure if any of us were placed in extreme environments where we either spent a lot of time alone (causing introversion) or spending a lot of time around people we liked (extroversion) we would be having a different conversation right now.

Its hard to understand what creates your introverted or extroverted behavior to me. I was raised around more social family members but I'm an introvert to the core. But I can still hold my own in social situations, it's just tiring. But I used to get teased A LOT when I was little. Squeaky voice, big head, "talked white", sometimes I wondered if that was what lead me to value my own company more than others.

But I grew up handsome and kinda intelligent too so I guess that threw in some confidence for balance. I think I strike the perfect ratio of intro and extro.

Extreme extraverts are a problem. They survive by getting other people to solve problems for them, they judge other people based on personality. Every problem is resolved by figuring out how to manipulate the right people into solving it. It's a bitch lifestyle.

Yes, giving into extreme extraverts is not excusable. Introverts have no right to complain about extraverts, and have to do their part in shutting them the fuck down.

But introverts are the ones who put the time and energy to solve problems unrelated to people. Mechanical, scientific problems.

Fuck extraverts for being useless bitch-men. Double fuck introverts for cowering to the extraverts.

I've tested as an ENTJ , but I'm probably more of an Ambivert, as I have plenty of Introvert moments. I'm the opposite of shy when I socialise, but I like alone times, and am much more of a doer than talker or spectator.

Perhaps an Ambivert, like myself. I believe it's a spectrum, not a binary black or white.

That sounds a lot like narcissists and codependents, which is a separate debate entirely.

Introverts can assert themselves from a narcissist, and extroverts can absolutely solve their own problems without a codependent. Just ask 2wycked.

It seems that a lot of people here know where they fall on the Myers-Briggs spectrum. For the people that do know what they are, how did you find out? Was it an official Myers-Briggs test? Or was it one of those free online ones? Or did you read the descriptions and say "yep, that sounds like me"?

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Do the INTJs in here prefer living alone or with roommates?

I have contemplated bringing my living costs down but part of me would rather spend more to have my solitude at home and just be out working more. My last roomate expericne I found that I had to LEAVE home to get my solitude. I would go for walks and stuff just to take a break from the full house of people. The house was mostly extroverted people and it was okay some days but I always enjoyed the place most when it was empty and o could just hear myself breathe.

To me socialising is very much me heading OUT of home. Home is very much a place to wind down and relax for me.

RE: Is introversion a myth?
Ill chime in with my own personal experience. I'm certainly introverted. I love going out and being social, but it is totally draining mentally. I NEED to be alone for a while to get back to normal. Like I rarely go to after parties because by that point, I'I'm done. I just have no energy left to talk to a group of people. One person, ok, but being in group of people, especially people I'm not very familiar with, is draining. Fun, but exhausting. Now I don't know if this changes over time or with more experience with strange groups, but introversion is not a myth.

Edit: I am INTP btw

RE: Is introversion a myth?
I test repeatedly as an INFJ which is apparently rather uncommon for a male as extroverted feelings are usually associated with the feminine. It's more people and feeling focused than the scientific hard numbers and strategy focused INTJ.

Think Mystery PUA. His stuff is really old but it works awesome for me because its on my frequency.

I subconsciously learned to suppress any extroverted feeling and amplify extroverted thinking because I've trained in engineering and went to an all boys school where too much emotion/ungrounded logic is not something you want.

I fall heavily on the introvert side.
My sister is two years younger, shes an ESTP who falls heavily on the extrovert side. Think punk rocker attention whore SJW but without all the feminism, somehow she stayed out of that.

We've never got on. Our personalities clash too hard. I think everything she does / says is foolish and she has no depth at all. She thinks I'm the most boring person in the world with no friends. The more dumb tattoos and piercings shes gets the less I want to talk to her. Shes gonna get a shock when she hits the wall with nothing but debt, and I have a couple of businesses under my belt. Any time I warn her about something she shrugs it off or goes and does the opposite, so I've stopped caring.

We're both from the same parents who are still married etc. No broken home, lived in the same house since born, good schooling, parents pretty much let use do what we wanted. This is why I think temperament is largely determined genetically.

It's good, imagine if everyone on earth had the same personality.
