Fully agree with The Thing, that was exactly what I was going to write. I think we need the whole 9 points of separation, 4-9 is too close. The scale points should also be equidistant, your 'shame jump' from 6-7 seems a bit superfluous. One person's 6 may well be another's 5, but at least with a 1-10 scale there's a bit of wiggle room to account for personal taste.
