Some 30-40,000 people in France suffer from anorexia, most of them teenagers, said Veran, who is a doctor.

France’s government is likely to back a bill banning excessively thin fashion models as well as potentially fining the modelling agency or fashion house that hires them and sending the agents to jail, the health minister has said.

Style-conscious France, with its fashion and luxury industries worth tens of billions of euros, would join Italy, Spain and Israel which all adopted laws against too-thin models on catwalks or in advertising campaigns in early 2013.

“It’s important for fashion models to say that they need to eat well and take care of their health, especially for young women who look to the models as an aesthetic ideal,” Health Minister Marisol Touraine told BFM TV on Monday.

I find it bizarre that governments are even legistating on issues like these. Is it really the role of government to decide who can wear some clothes and walk in front of cameras?

The law is ostensibly to discourage anorexia. But even if it is well intentioned we all know it is part of the cultural drive to normalise fatness.

And is it not legitimate for someone who suffers from anorexia to find employment? With this law they are being discriminated against and driven out of their chosen profession but no feminists will support them.

Also note that there will be fines for encouraging extreme thinness - however when Russia created a law against the encouragement of homosexuality (which can have serious health consequences for men engaging in homosexual sex) the liberals were up in arms about it.

Why is it not against the law to encourage body confidence in fat people? That is equally as harmful to a person's health as being underweight.

Well, Rigobert, when jealous faggots and psychotic ideology driven fanatic Malthusian, Machiavellian useful idiot petty tyrants who think they'll get their turn at the whip band together in a democratic state against the majority population, the society starts a slow decline.

Why should people allow their governments to ban anything beyond murder, rape, thievery and property crimes? Most don't think about these things. Or if they do they support them as ways to force you how to live, but not themselves.

Many people are control freaks, living irrelevant lives of quiet desperation where the only joy they get is by making others miserable through proxy violence.

This is what happens when dangerous ideas like egalitarianism and universal suffrage are embraced.
