Let's be smarter about this. Fat shaming people because we think they're disgusting, diseased and weak is not a very effective strategy. Many everyday people will thus distance themselves from that.

Let's dig deeper.

"Being fat (1) is bad because it is disgusting (2) and unhealthy (3)."

1. Target of criticism: the state of being fat.
2. Reason for criticism: being fat is disgusting to us.
3. Reason for criticism: being fat is unhealthy.

In a sane world this would constitute a great argument and everyone would agree that being fat is shameful. But as we all know, we don't live in such a world. Thus we have to deal with this:

1. You don't know why someone is fat. Maybe it's genetics, or something else they can't control.
2. Your personal opinion is not my problem. Many people think fat is beautiful.
3. Not according to these studies. And again, that is my problem and not yours.

Lesson from smoke shaming: Target behavior and not outcome.

Criticizing the bad outcome rubs many people the wrong way. It's kicking someone when they're down. Shaming was really effective to reduce smoking, but the target of criticism wasn't the state of having cancer, but the act of smoking.

Fat Shaming 2.0: Criticize Selfish Gluttony

Some small minority did not get fat because of eating uncontrollably. No point in shaming those people anyway. The majority of fat people do eat like animals. That behavior should be shamed.

New target of criticism: the act of eating enormous quantities of shit food.

What are new effective reasons? What gets people on our side? It's not an appeal to our own sense of aesthetics, or our own financial tax contributions.

World poverty and famine: Every single day 30,000 children starve to death in Africa alone. We have enough food, but it's not distributed fairly. Consuming enormous amounts of calories here, means keeping it out of the tiny, fragile hands on the other side of the planet.

Environment: Bitches and liberals love this stuff. Food is very costly to make. Processing it to make it into plastic-wrapped junk food is even worse. Eating too much, and eating processed food instead of broccoli and chicken is destroying our planet.

Health Care Costs: All the money we have to spend as the result of their uncontrollable consumption, we can't spend on other important health issues, like women's health (lol). In addition, the extra pressure on health care staff is mostly carried by the already overworked, and female, nurses.

Is eating even more food really worth killing children and the environment for?

Fat people don't respond to logic.

The only way to convince to a fat person is emotion.

Being fat shows a severe bias toward emotion over logic. They didn't logic their way into obesity and they won't logic their way out.

It worked GREAT 20+ years ago when it was commonplace and done in person.
