Growing up I spent several years living in Egypt. I don't know about most Muslim countries, but Egypt is far from that.

It is true that there are a lot of men on the top with four wives, many mistresses, and a lot of hookers but that really isn't that different than anywhere in the West. Instead of the big man having four wives or more, we simply have celebrities and athletes knocking up multiple babymommas or engaging in sugar daddy relationships that mimic wives in a traditional sense.

I was actually speaking more along the lines of some posters talking about the future having sex slaves.

As far as Muslim countries go, or at least Egypt which I do think is fairly representative of a number of Muslim countries in the region, one problem that younger men and women have is that the cultural norms do not allow marriage without providing a marital home.

If you look around Cairo, and many other places, you will see that the tops of many building are unfinished. The reason for this is that the people who own the building hope to built another level on for their sons and daughter in laws to have a home and to then use the rent collected from the other newer apartments to pay it off.

One of the problems is that women are currently working the jobs that many of the men should have, my mom works for USAID and as a feminist they try to hire women in government jobs more than men, and this means that the men can't support the woman and save up for a down payment on a house. The women desperately, usually at least, want to get married but fear becoming old maids. Some men and women will get together and hook up, there are a few parks where this is known to happen, but largely they remain virgins or close to it until marriage.

Add in depressing wages, social unrest, and a culture that is a bit faggy under the service and it really is no wonder why you end up with the situations they have.

Strangely enough the historical norm up until 1900 was a stark lack of men vs. women in the West. Even in the Muslim countries there was a lack of men because men were sent out to wars or had back-breaking hard labor.

So usually if a man had any resources at all, then he had a woman in every country that had some kind of stable one man-one woman marriage system. Even the Muslim countries had it, because of all the wars they waged and the men were dying in.

So the polygamy was not much of an issue unless you go really back in time or you see a truly idiotic system like with the Aztecs where 50% of the men had no women at all. Then don't be surprised if 100 men can overpower 100.000 in such a stupid concoction.

Currently I would not allow polygamy, because the gender ratios are just crazy bad for men and it would truly have Saudi Arabian effects. This is not 1890 where you had sometimes a 10% surplus of young women vs men. The reverse is true for now.

Random comment, but since we are talking about ratios of men and women, I read something that when a country has an excess of young men, they just start wars.

The US and many Western countries have a greater excess of young men than China - up to age 30 at least. Only from 35+ it becomes balanced and then later on tips severely into our favor, but no one wants to immerse himself in the 50+ puma dating fields.

I think that the paradigm is not exactly true in our times since a long time ago men had to marry to get sex. When all women were married off and 10%+ remained celibate, then they were getting desperate.

The women would have flatly rejected them, because the odds were not in their favor. Only after the babyboom, the gender ratios became balanced and the female nature could be freely unleashed again.

Here is the thing though. Aren't we already there? 80% of women are having sex with, or in some harem type relationship with, less than 20% of men. On college campuses this is more along the lines of 90/10 or higher.

Plenty of guys go years between girlfriends/regular sex while other guys are spinning plates.
