I was driving around today listening to an audiobook of Sir Richard Burton's "Personal Narrative Of A Pilgrimage To Al-Medina And Meccah."
It's an old travel classic, written in 1855, by an Englishman who disguised himself as a native Muslim and entered the holy places in Arabia at great risk to himself.
Along the way, he makes observations on various aspects of his cultural environment. One of these was slavery. It caught my attention, because it seemed to match some of the things I've noticed in this thread.
Slavery, Burton notes, was relatively mild in the Arab world. These were its features:
1. "Slaves" were viewed as domestic servants, or nearly members of the extended family.
2. They could expect to be clad, shod, and well-fed, with little to do except keep the families of their employers in leisurely satisfaction.
3. A slave had the right to demand to be sold, if he was not happy with his current employer.
4. Slaves were either passed around, from one rich man to another, or advertised in bulletins.
5. Female slaves were expected to perform sexually.
6. Slaves could amass wealth and elevate their status in society, eventually. It is incredible, when we look at history, how many Mamluke rulers in Egypt were actually former slaves. The word "Mamluke" itself is an anglicization of the Arabic word المملوكة or "owned".
Hearing all this, and it suddenly hit me.
There are many similarities here between this and these voluntary Instagram hoes. Bulletins are now electronic, rather than posted in public places in Alexandria or Cairo.

That's an interesting observation - I've heard that before with guys who own or have access to small jets (both by guys I know as well as pro PUAs who tell the same story).
