Perhaps like Hunter S Thompson but I have always had a bit of a battle with depression and suicidal thoughts.

I wonder how many people that want go down in a fight have ever actually been in a life and death fight. Sure, the 300 clip was cool and I guess that wouldnt be bad. I mean, if you had just been several days slaying thousands of enemy soldiers while being outnumbered and essentially surrounded then accepting that death of hero is completely understandable. You wipe the blood off your war beaten face, look to the skies, and smile as certain instantaneous death approaches.

Hollywood can romanticize dying in battle, however the reality is far from the big screen. Modern wars aren't like that. You'll either die instantly from a bullet you didn't even know was coming, or you will suffer immense pain while you bleed out, most likely caused by another bullet/rocket/mortar/artillery round/IED/mine/whatever that you didn't even know was coming.

I mean seriously, why would fuck would I want to die in battle? I wanna come out of it completely unscathed with everyone on my team alive and well and then go home and fuck the newest years high school prom queen.

I'll take slowly slipping away in bed on a rainy sunday morning in a house a bought for retirement and my cute Asian maid right next to me naked, alseep, and breathing on my neck. Just looking up and watching the ceiling fan slowly fade into an image the faces and arms of all my conquests, smiling and beckoning me to come over to other side. I want to die with a shit eating grin on my face.

You're confusing dying with fighting. The ability to stand up and fight for a cause is a pillar of masculinity. Fighting for something is the greatest thing a man can do. Dying it for it shows the utmost of dedication, however you shouldn't aspire towards dying for it.

I remember in basic training we got sat down and asked, "how many of you want to die in combat?" One person rose his hand. The drill sergeant immediately called him a dumbass and said something along the lines of "Your better off making sure the other guy does instead".

You should not wish to die in combat. You should wish to slay every motherfucker in your way instead. Then you bring all your friends home and get them laid like rockstars.

Again I wonder, how many people that say they want to die in combat have actually been in combat?

Haha. There was an article shared here a few years back about a fat westerner having an Viagra induced heart attack while fucking a hooker in Thailand. He died on top of her and she couldn't move him off so she just laid there with a dead fat guy on her for a whole day until someone finally found them. I wonder if that was his ideal way to die as well.

While I would prefer to be immortal I have to be realistic and conclude that the human reality I am very happily bound to will end some day. As that final day is unavoidable I would like it to be grand and glorious; war perhaps but I truly don't know nor do I limit myself to that scenario.

I mean that people don't change and truly evolve much after a certain age. There are some exceptions, but most don't. A Nazi in the 1940s would probably still be a Nazi character in the year 3000 if he lived that long.

If reincarnation is true that Nazi has the chance of being reborn as a black, a woman, an Indian and after 1000 years he is a much different person. That's my personal observation - if there is no reincarnation and no afterlife, then life does not make much sense in the first place and whether you live 10 minutes or 1000 years does not matter at all - or whether you are a serial killer or a saint does not matter either. But I think that it does and there is a higher reason for life.

Ah! I misunderstood you in that case. As for the last point, I frequently transit between a very depressive form of nihilism and a heightened state where I have very little worries on what succeeds this life. I've also read Camus so his absurdism influences me too. In essence, I truly don't know and the confusion created by that question bothers me on a daily basis.
