Make no mistake, Brian Williams is another case of trans-identity.

An extensive review by NBCUniversal into Williams' reporting in the field and commentary from a period of more than 10 years found that he made a number of inaccurate statements about his role and experiences in covering events in the field. Williams, who has been suspended since February, opened up about what he says has been a difficult period.

"I was reading these newspaper stories, not liking the person I was reading about, wanting — I would have given anything to get to the end of the story and have it be about someone else, but it was about me. These statements I made, I own this; I own up to this and I have to go through and see and try to figure out how it happened." How you lied? My 9 year old niece can tell me that! You lied, it worked, so you lied 31 more times. About some serious shit.

"Brian now has the chance to earn back everyone's trust," Andrew Lack, Chairman of NBC News and MSNBC, said in a statement Thursday. "His excellent work over twenty-two years at NBC News has earned him that opportunity." To be fair, I've never trusted anchormen, mostly because I simply don't know them. But you can bet your ass you can't 'earn back' my trust after you lied repeatedly to me. The media is so full of shit. I swear it's just women running the show thinking, well, I do LIKE him, so he's earned back some trust.

"I am a grateful person,'' Williams said. "I am fully aware of the second chance I have been given. I don't intend to squander it." You should be grateful for choosing a career path where you can break the foundational tenets of the industry, much less society, and be accepted back.

In his sit-down with Lauer, Williams reflected on what made him tell i̶n̶a̶c̶c̶u̶r̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ lies from the course of his 22-year career.
   

"It had to have been ego that made me think I had to be sharper, funnier, quicker than anybody else,'' he said. "I told the s̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ ̶c̶o̶r̶r̶e̶c̶t̶l̶y̶ truth for years, before I told i̶t̶ ̶i̶n̶c̶o̶r̶r̶e̶c̶t̶l̶y̶ lies. I was not trying to mislead people, (and) that to me is a huge difference. So you're crazy or mentally retarded? It came from a bad place. Your brain? Clearly your brain is malfunctioning...I suppose you could say it's a bad place. It came from a sloppy choice of words. Because you got caught. I told stories that were not true. Finally. Over the years, looking back, it is very clear I never intended to. Whatever allows ya to sleep at night. It got mixed up, it got turned around, in my mind. That's what happens when you lie. I feel like I was taught that in kindergarten.

"This came from clearly a bad place, a bad urge inside me. This was clearly ego-driven, a desire to better my role in a story I was already in. That's what I've been tearing apart and unpacking and analyzing." Fair enough. An urge? It came from an urge we all have but are at best respectful enough and at worst socially fearful enough not to give in to.

After going through his past public comments, Williams acknowledged instances in which he made mistakes. These are lies, not mistakes.

"I said things that were w̶r̶o̶n̶g̶ lies,'' he said. "Looking back, with such clarity now, it is so clear to me, I s̶a̶i̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶w̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶r̶o̶n̶g̶ told lies. I told s̶t̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶w̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶r̶o̶n̶g̶ told lies. It wasn't from a place where I was trying to use my job and title to mislead. I got it wrong. I own this, and I own up this. You're clearly not owning this or owning up to your lies. Call them mistakes, but if you want to own up to them, say "I lied", "I told many lies".

"One is too much. Any number north of zero is too many. Thirty-two, yes, 3-2 big ones...is too many. We can't have it. I can't have that in my life. I can't have that in my work. I can't have that in the company we work for." Don't say "we". Unless you're talking about you and Dan Rather, don't say we.

Williams is looking forward to seizing a second chance and working toward regaining the viewers' trust.

"I will work every day for it,'' he said. "I'll go person by person. All I can tell people is, 'Hold me to account. Bro, this isn't AA. A news reporter shouldn't need accountability partners. Judge me by as harsh a standard as you wish. Many already have. That's fair." I suppose that's why he'll be back on air somewhere...the media's standards aren't exactly high.

He also has made peace with the fact that he will not return as anchor of NBC Nightly News.

"Was it my first choice? No,'' he said. "Obviously I wanted to return to my old job. I thought we'd had a great 10-year run and were on top for most of that time. I pushed back at first. Enough time has passed, I accept the decision.

"There's another component here, and that is our friend Lester Holt. No one is more deserving. This game came in under the worst circumstances and has upheld everything great about the place and the broadcast. It's Lester's job." Thanks for giving him your filthy lying good graces.

Williams also is thankful to be returning to NBC.

"I'm very happy to be coming back,'' he said. "First of all, I'm happy to have a job. I'm happy to work. I'm very fortunate to be able to go back to NBC. What I said earlier about the second chance club, I'm now its leading spokesman."

Brian Williams is still too good for MSNBC. I mean way too good. That network should only be reserved for the outright unethical, corrupt, dirty newcasters like the Stephenopolous guy who've been caught donating to one party then trying to moderate presidential debates.

As I said before, the execs runied the Williams brand by casting him away for so long. Where is the succession plan? And how can this work when he is still, as you mentioned, to large for MSNBC. They are likely still paying him is NBC salary so he does not give a shit aside from getting the position demotion, and will likely bounce once he gets all his money. NBC is also likely afraid that he could revive his brand, but for another network. Paying him to stay in the dugout, versus fleeing the CNN for example, right before election season. What a botch on all sides, the only winner is Brian Williams bank account.

Lester Holt will replace him, but we all know he is just keeping the seat warm while they try to lure a big name to the seat permanently.
